I had grand plans for the weekend. I was going to be productive - get some housecleaning done, go do some laundry, get my resume finished, and start applying for jobs. I was going to go to Portsmouth on Saturday for the sea music sing, too, but that didn't happen, either.
The working stuff...well, it was the weekend. The laundry didn't happen because my town fills up with leaf-peeping tourons on the weekends during foliage season and I didn't feel like battling the hordes blocking Main St to the laundromat. And housecleaning, well, it sort of happened. I got the floors swept and the dishes done. Portsmouth didn't happen because I just didn't feel like making the hour's drive down by myself and it was too last minute to get anyone to go with me. Plus, I really didn't have money for the gas, tolls, and parking once I got there, not to mention buying a meal and maybe a beer once I got to The Press Room.
So what did I do? I spent the weekend playing games. Saturday was a marathon session of Sleeping Dogs. I was well on my way to earning the in-game gold medal for getting 200 kills in one play session when the power blinked off and made my 360 very unhappy. Made me unhappy, too. I think I started playing around 5 PM, and sometime in the very dark hours of a late fall New England night, I realized it was almost 4 AM and I really needed to go to bed.
I think I'm about 2/3 of the way through the main game. I've been having too much fun to be bothered looking it up. I roam around doing side stuff until I get bored or frustrated or run out of side stuff, and then I play some of the main story, which unlocks more side stuff. I'm dying less, which may mean I'm getting better at the combat end of things. Good thing, because if you die in a non-main story event, it costs you $15,000 to get revived. I discovered that you can get money by running over parking meters, too, which is a never-ending form of entertainment. I do feel bad when I run over pedestrians, though. I wish my vehicles came equipped with horns...
Sunday, I spent recovering from only getting four hours of sleep. I watched a few episodes of Space: Above and Beyond, caught up to the current episode of Supernatural, and napped. Then, around four or so, I decided to check out South Park: The Stick of Truth, which I bought last Tuesday at The Game Box, a little independent games and comics store about 20 minutes away. They run table top games in the back room, by the way. I still had a $20 gift certificate from Christmas, so I only had to shell out about eleven bucks. Yes, I could have gotten it cheaper off Amazon, but I like supporting local independent businesses. Anyway...I got sucked in rather quickly. I took a quick break to run to the grocery store around 8:00 for a frozen pizza, and then jumped back in. Yes, I'm having fun. I have run into a few annoying glitches where I get stuck on ladders or in walls, but nothing game breaking. The load times are a little annoying, and it seems a little laggy in spots, but not enough to ruin the fun. And much fun is being had. I shut down around 12:30 and went to bed when I realized I'd fallen asleep sitting up with the controller in my hand and Cartman was yelling at me because I wasn't doing whatever he was trying to train me to do.
It's been so long since I've spent a weekend gaming, I'd forgotten how much fun it was. And today, back to reality and being responsible. Ugh.
