Happy Monday Pixlbitland! It is a cool 67° right here in my little piece of Southern California. So how was you weekend? Did you all get your fill of football and gaming? The Aztecs and Cowboys earned the W’s this weekend so I am a happy camper.
Dallas Cowboys fans saw glimpses of what SDSU fans got to see a lot of, and hopefully he gets more playing time. I think he’s a better TE than Hanna, opened up a lot of holes for DeMarco, and catches everything.
Ok so going back to gaming related stuff I woke up early Saturday Morning and was watching either CNN or MSNBC and what was the big topic? Gamergate. Since reading about it here, it started showing up everywhere now.
So what has Chris been playing? I wanted to take down some games from Mount Backlog but after getting caught up in a Below Deck 2 Marathon
I didn’t really have much time to play some console games (I do love me some bad reality shows, and this one along with Vanderpump Rules are easily my favorites on Bravo). There was some gaming but it was some quick shots here and there which not only killed some time, but I got some enjoyment
On Thursday I spent a couple of hours in a waiting room and I brought my Nexus 7 with me. I was going to do some reading but it quickly turned into playing some Shoot’em Ups
I made my way through three or four levels, which was fun, but hot damn after a certain point the screen was filled with bullets, lasers, and other fighters and I got stuck.
I switched over to this collection of games and played a couple of different versions ultimately sticking with the original because that’s the one I remember playing the most growing up. Both games are a lot of fun especially when you use a stylus to control your ship.
Later on that day when I was charging the iPad Air I figured why not give NBA 2K14 a shot. Heck I spent $1.99 and the new game was released, I might as well check it out.
The last time I tried to play this game was when I was on an airplane over the Pacific Ocean…and I fell asleep. This time I tried the Quick Game option where it was the Heat vs the Spurs. Either I missed the select side or they didn’t offer one, but I was playing with the Heat (not 1, not 2, not 3…Miami Heat). After playing a half of this game I decided to give Franchise Mode a try and went with the LA Clippers.
I played through a game and the Clippers dominated the Lakers. I’m not a fan of on screen controls but these weren’t bad. Aside from the usual missing the directional “nub” every once in a while, the game was fluid. There isn’t much to controls other than a button for shoot, pass, and jump. We shall see how long before I stop playing this game because I get caught up in something else. I’d like to finish one season just to get my money’s worth out of it.
Another game I spent a lot of time with this past week is the one I was waiting for, and that is Angry Birds Transformers on the iPad Air
First impressions are the game is fine in short bursts but there really isn’t much substance to the game, and a couple of characters are annoying. The concept of the game is simple, the Angry Birds, and the Pigs have teamed up to stop the evil Pigs, Robots, and eggs. Rovio took a side scrolling shooter approach to this game, which seems to work but the charm of the Angry Birds franchise just isn’t in this game. The objective in this game is to take out a bunch of enemies, rescue frozen Transformers, and unlock parts of the island.
The game is repetitive and you play the same levels multiple times to collect pigs to unlock new Transformers. You can also upgrade your Transformers, and refill their health by using the in game currency. This currency can be earned in missions by destroying buildings and items as well as collecting coins from missions already defeated.
Yes you can transform into vehicles…except Soundwave turns into a car and not a boom box
The one major annoyance for me is that most of the levels require you to team up with another Transformers, and it always encourages you to sign into Facebook and use your friend’s Transformers
I refused to connect to Facebook because I hate getting notifications from games like Candy Crush (seriously why in the hell are people playing this all the freaking time?).
At the end of the level you have the choice to either have your Transformers celebrate with each other or individually
This is cute the first time, but after that it gets annoying. I was expecting more from Angry Birds Transformers especially after seeing previous Angry Birds games, but this one is a definitely a let down for me. If you want a trip down memory lane with the look and sounds of the 80s cartoon, but after all of that I would pass on this game.
I unlocked one of my favorite items from The Simpsons Tapped Out
Yup the Donut Torture Device
And finally I updated the 3DS Firmware this past weekend (C’mon Android, OSX Yosemite and the 3DS got updates) and I saw that you can install themes to the main screen!
I had a couple of dollars in credit still so I browsed through Nintendo’s offerings and there isn’t a lot but this one seems like the most fitting of my Luigi themed 3DS XL. The themes are a little steep at $2 but there is some music in the background, which is nice. I want the option of adding my own custom background theme. It’s probably available but I didn’t look hard enough.
Ooh I almost forgot to mention I thought about picking up a Playstation TV over the weekend, but once again I couldn’t justify it. Add this to the Skylanders, and recent Disney Infinity game as gaming items I wanted originally but once they became available I lost interest. To you folks who bought them, I’ll live through your experiences for a bit until I get the itch to add it to my collection.
Anyways Pixlbit it is time for me to end this little chat we are having because I have stuff to do.
That’s all for now, more later!
-Chris
*Hot Damn, you good folks were busy writing up a bunch of blogs for me to read. I’m behind but I’ll do some reading this week!
