Chris Tries Pumpkin Carving

Hey Pixlbit, so yesterday I was talking about buying a pumpkin. I don’t know why I wanted to carve a pumpkin, considering the last time I did was in elementary school. So the crafty bug bit, so I spent some time getting a pattern ready.

This is the pumpkin I bought, and promptly named him Walter. I bought some pumpkin carving stuff because the folks on YouTube said I needed these things. I also bought a zester (is that a word?) to scrape off the sides of Walter.

This is my pattern. Originally I wanted to do Kratos but I figured only a couple of people would understand it and most likely someone will probably ask who’s the bald guy.

I made a smaller version just in case the original was too big.

The little poker the carving kit came with is garbage, so I switched to a steak knife. The smaller pattern I tried didn’t come out too well so I went big.

The steak knife worked well, you just had to have some touch or else the blade goes in a little too deep. I traced my design and it was all zester from this point. I read that it was easier to use clay cutting tools but I have no idea where my tools are (you folks who had to buy expensive books in college, I had to buy a ton of random art supplies. College made $$$ off of me). I figured the zester was basically the same thing. Anyways after scraping, some choice words, and cutting out some spots I finally finished it…and it looks like a skeleton, HAHAHAHA.

I like to think that maybe the pattern is too big because it curves but I like him. Walter did well and now I have a pumpkin. I don’t know if I want to go through all of that again just to get a cleaner version. This basically means I’m thinking about it.

Anyways I thought I’d share my pumpkin experience, have a good one Pixlbit!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I give that a 10/10

Looks a hell of a lot better than I could do. I missed out on a pumpkin carving get together with coworkers cause of stats class. My friend Robbie carved the Smash Bros. symbol.

Thanks man, curse that stats class! That Smash Bros. symbol pumpkin must look cool when lit up.

Thanks man! It was actually fun to carve even with all the choice words flying out.

That's cool.  It looks like it would be hard to do that!  When I was little, I wanted to carve a Pac-Man pumpkin but my parents wouldn't let me.  We just had the standard boring pumpkins with triangle eyes and toothy grins.

Thanks! Halfway through Lego Iron Man, the normal pumpkin sounded like a lot of fun. The process as a whole wasn't that bad, I just picked a character with a lot of detail. The poking the pattern was easily the most fun out of the whole deal.

It's cool that you can control the amount of light that gets through by carving less or more of the pumpkin and make some parts brighter than others. Neat!

Thanks! Thanks to the good people of YouTube and what some friends were telling me it was fun to tinker with how much to remove.

That came out really cool, Chris. I don't have the patience or desire for pumpkin carving, so I shall live vicariously through you this Halloween.

Thanks! Oh the patience was tested, believe me. I think I might want to do another carving for Thanksgiving, maybe someone less detailed like Lego Hulk.

That's pretty cool. I wish I had the patience for pumpkin carving with that kind of detail.

Thank you sir! I do wish I had more patience so I could try and do another one, but one pumpkin is fine for Halloween.
