 So yeah. http://www.ign.com/blogs/whatsacow/2014/09/23/four-things-holding-gaming-back/

Front page. 500 comments. Unfortunately most of them are people telling me to kill myself. It gets rather draining reading them after a while.

MGs4 has a good story. Thats why I loved it. The cutscenes were a bit too long though.

On another note...your opinions are just that...opinions. Its still entertaining to read that community getting pissed at you though lol.

I thought the blog was well written and thoughtful.  Keep them coming!

Yes, it is my opinion. People seem to think because IGN promoted it that it automatically means that I think I'm god and that everything I write I write as objective fact.

you mean, you're not God?  and this ISN'T fact????

I think it's the "hate-filled abominations" part that riled everyone up. First of all I sort of agree with you on the cinematics and visuals part. I'm going back and forth between Alien Isolation and Evil Within. If you aren't aware by now the Evil Within is displayed with an aspect ratio similar to a film, including black bars on top and bottom of screen (the whole game) . However, I've played a lot of it and it didn't bother me but there isn't much of a narrative or story to support the "cinematic" presentation. I like the game for the "gamey-ness" of it and the visuals are pretty great for a horror game but I feel like the "cinemascope" style was just added to call the game cinematic for the sake of calling it cinematic. They released a patch to remove black bars which is weird. Alien Isolation feels much more immersive and it doesn't have a "cinematic" aspect ratio. Hmmm.

If more articles were put up like yours on IGN I'd visit the site more often or take critics more seriously! Cool

Lotta idiots in comments though.

Nice piece, Blake. I definitely agree with a lot of what you have to say. I do think games are art, but art is such a personal term that it's basically meaningless. I also enjoy the occassional cinematic game, like Uncharted, but I agree that games as a medium shouldn't be moving in that direction.

Your aesthetic obsession comment is totally spot on. That obsession is literally running this industry into the ground. Games have gotten to be entirely too expensive to make and it's now requisite for companies to sell millions of copies just to break even. Smaller scale games from big publishers have almost out and out disappeared from the market. Sure the indie scene is rising up to fill that void, but there's a middle ground that's basically vacant right now and it's a real shame. I do think that the failure to launch with this latest console generation is partly telling of how consumers actually feel about the graphics arms race.

Anyway, I'm not surprised that you're getting that hatred. You took a few hard stances on things and people don't deal with that well. Thankfully the response here on PixlBit seems much better so far (though smaller, for sure).

Yeah thanks. Pixlbit is the best internet community I've ever been a part of, hands down.

I meant as a whole games are products rather than art, but art exists within the world of gaming. There are games as art, and games as dumb fun.

I totally agree with the middle ground thing. Dark Souls was a great modern example of this I feel.

Anyway, I've been reading hate filled comments for 3 hours straight. I need sleep. I apologise that this comment isnt the reply it probabluy could hgave been.

Cool. Good job on making the front page. Wasn't this blog on 1UP? I seem to remember reading it there.

Indeed it was. I posted it to IGN a while ago, it just got put up recently for some reason.

I see both comments saying you fail at life because of your strong opinion and are making generalizations to present a point and comments saying they agree with all of what you said.

I do agree with the people saying it's fine to have immature content and want sleek graphics cause variety is the spice of life, but I'd also concede that when most games tend to go in one direction, some critique of that direction is fair.

I see both two, but I'm going to say actual positivity makes up roughly a 5th of the comments here.

Lots of good points you make but I think GOW is a bad example discussing story. I mean it's by the guy who did Twisted Metal. What makes GOW great is the feel of the combat, at least that's why I love it. The mechanics are perfect. The story is just dumb fun like a stupid action movie. However, I do agree that game makers tend to dumb things down assuming people are unintelligent goons. I think Hollywood does the same with movies most of the time, because that's what sells. People want to be entertained and sometimes that means watching of playing something only fit for a caveman.

Good for you cow face, any pulicity is good publicity and there's a good bit of contructive crit so keep on truckin'!

Blake Turner Staff Writer

Most of it isn't constructive. It's just people telling me I should keep my opinion to myself, that I'm wrong, or that they hope they never see my face again. I think I'm done with writing for now.

I'ma just upvote the good ones x3

Also, stop reading the comments! D<

Although I'm super amused by the ones that think you're a console pleb :P

And all the other weird accusations. And hijacks. And completely-missing-the-point. Is that site always like this? o.O

Where are the ones that say I'm a console pleb?

Congrats on being featured, that's awesome. Your blog was an interesting read and while I don't agree with some portions of it, I cannot believe the extremes some of those commentors go.

Your blog did it's job though, it got people talking Cool

I still remember this blog over 1up and Plus10. I can confirm this to be your magnum opus blogwise, right?

Not really haha. I'm not a massive fan of it. It is outdated and I think I've got better but oh well.
