I haven't really been around since this gamergate thing started. I still see it pop up in my twitter feed every once in a while. I don't know anything about it, so that is not why I am here. I just wanted to make a comment on how it might be coincidental that I took a break from most web interaction around the time that it began. That isn't to say that I have taken a break from games. Far from it. In fact, my wife has gotten annoyed more than once because I have been spending a fair amount of time with Destiny. That is why I am here today, I wanted to talk about Destiny.
To make sure that I get across the point that I want to make, I am going to state it early. I suppose like on of those TL;DR disclaimers. I love Destiny, it has been one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I have had in a long time. The disc has not left my PS4 since it was inserted.

First I wanted to rattle off some information that will hopefully give you a picture of my experience with the game. At level 20 you effectively open up the majority of the endgame content. Certain things like the Raid and "Nightfall" strikes are locked until you hit a higher level. I did not finish the campaign until I had already unlocked all of the endgame content. If I had to guess, I was around 35-40 hours logged into the game at that point. When I last looked, I had logged in 2 days, 15 hours of time into the game as my Warlock. I started a Hunter class character, but have only logged in a couple of hours so far. If you do the math, that is at minimum, 65 hours. I cannot remember the last time I logged so much time into a game. I think that they last game that I had put so much time into was New Vegas, and that was over the course of 3 playthroughs and 2 years. I have not played the Raid yet.

I wanted to try to illustrate that there is plenty of content in the game. In fact, I haven't touched all of it. Bungie has done a good job of getting me to boot up everyday. There is a Daily Heroic Mission that can net you some extra XP or even better Ascendant Materials. Once you get to the point that I am currently at, Level 28, you need ascendant materials to level up further. The bounties refresh on a daily basis. There are weekly challenges, like the Nightfall or Heroic Strike. While they may not be worth the time or effort, there are exotic weapon bounties. Exotic weapons are the highest class weapons that you can get outside of the raid. Overall these exotic bounties may not be worth it, but they give you something to work towards. Therefore they keep me playing.

Side topic... I know that people have complained that Destiny is not a "complete" game. By that token, Shovel Knight was not a complete game. I don't remember hearing people complain about that game being incomplete. There are many features that Yacht Club Games are still working on, like 4 player battles, the playable boss knights, and the gender swap mode. I know the situation isn't the same, but I just wanted to point that out.

So as someone with no new consoles, can you explain something to me? Destiny's big attention-grabber is that it's only-online, but they can pretty much keep pumping content into it yes?

There are two announced expansion packs coming.  There might be more, but for now just the two.  Bungie holds these "events" that allow players to work towards new gear that is available only through the events.

I think that they will be continueing to pump content out until the next game eventually comes.

it seems fun, but I'm so burned out on shooters...  Frown

With Wolfenstein and Metro Redux, this year has been pretty good on that front though.

What's this I hear about the new DLC coming to Playstation first and then to Xbox a full year later? That just can't be true, I'm thinking. Why would MS let something like that happen?

The issue is that most of the DLC is coming to Xbox, but not all of it.  There are two strike maps that are PS exclusive for the year.

There was already an exclusive strike and a handful of weapons that were PS exclusive at launch.

My friend is saying there is raid that's only coming to Playstation.

I had a good time with Destiny, especially The Crucible matches.

I took a break from the crucible for two weeks to gt enough vangard marks for a weapon.  I felt inadequate when I finally returned.  It is some of the most solid PvP I have played in a long time.

I have gotten where all I really do anymore is the weekly heroic if I can find someone to play with otherwise I have been spending more time with Bordelands TPS. It has been revealed via some data mining that the game we got is a gutted husk of what it was supposed to be . Persoanly playing the same handful of missions for the 50th time gets old. Plus the more time I have spent with this game the more cheap and rushed things look. It is fun I will not deny that, but I just don't feel like I got $60 worth of game. I finished the story with each class at about lv 18 and took maybe 15 hours each. At this point I'm not feeling too enclined to buy the dlc. I hope they do step it up but this is just starting to feel too much like a money grab by riding the coat tails of their own legacy.

i hear that some of the missions have become so complext and in depth that you need to be laser focused on what you need to do, complete with total communication with your fire team. No piddling around if you want to actually beat some of those Raids.

Good to see some Destiny positivity after some of the small backlash it received. I want to play it, but sadly Bungie doesn't look keen on bringing the game on PC.
