So as someone with no new consoles, can you explain something to me? Destiny's big attention-grabber is that it's only-online, but they can pretty much keep pumping content into it yes?

I haven't really been around since this gamergate thing started. I still see it pop up in my twitter feed every once in a while. I don't know anything about it, so that is not why I am here. I just wanted to make a comment on how it might be coincidental that I took a break from most web interaction around the time that it began. That isn't to say that I have taken a break from games. Far from it. In fact, my wife has gotten annoyed more than once because I have been spending a fair amount of time with Destiny. That is why I am here today, I wanted to talk about Destiny.
To make sure that I get across the point that I want to make, I am going to state it early. I suppose like on of those TL;DR disclaimers. I love Destiny, it has been one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I have had in a long time. The disc has not left my PS4 since it was inserted.
First I wanted to rattle off some information that will hopefully give you a picture of my experience with the game. At level 20 you effectively open up the majority of the endgame content. Certain things like the Raid and "Nightfall" strikes are locked until you hit a higher level. I did not finish the campaign until I had already unlocked all of the endgame content. If I had to guess, I was around 35-40 hours logged into the game at that point. When I last looked, I had logged in 2 days, 15 hours of time into the game as my Warlock. I started a Hunter class character, but have only logged in a couple of hours so far. If you do the math, that is at minimum, 65 hours. I cannot remember the last time I logged so much time into a game. I think that they last game that I had put so much time into was New Vegas, and that was over the course of 3 playthroughs and 2 years. I have not played the Raid yet.
I wanted to try to illustrate that there is plenty of content in the game. In fact, I haven't touched all of it. Bungie has done a good job of getting me to boot up everyday. There is a Daily Heroic Mission that can net you some extra XP or even better Ascendant Materials. Once you get to the point that I am currently at, Level 28, you need ascendant materials to level up further. The bounties refresh on a daily basis. There are weekly challenges, like the Nightfall or Heroic Strike. While they may not be worth the time or effort, there are exotic weapon bounties. Exotic weapons are the highest class weapons that you can get outside of the raid. Overall these exotic bounties may not be worth it, but they give you something to work towards. Therefore they keep me playing.
Side topic... I know that people have complained that Destiny is not a "complete" game. By that token, Shovel Knight was not a complete game. I don't remember hearing people complain about that game being incomplete. There are many features that Yacht Club Games are still working on, like 4 player battles, the playable boss knights, and the gender swap mode. I know the situation isn't the same, but I just wanted to point that out.
