30 Frames Per Dollar: A Console Conspiracy

We've all heard about it, we've all seen it but it's only now since I've thought about that I started asking around and watching some stuff. Console Games still only 720p and 30fps but now it seems developers are being purposefully made to keep things that way by Sony and MS.

Last month I watched these

Jim Speaks in more general terms specific to Ubisoft but the vid below...

(this one is long but it gets better at the halfway point)

And the sad thing is (actually it's great) Nintendo - if you check - have more games at Full HD 1080p and 60fps.

It's scary how these developers and console makers are purposefully colluding to throw out substandard products, they seem to treat the gamers as idiots and with no respect in regards to honest. I mean my gaming Laptop which is  a year and a half old can keep up with an Xbone (though just barely, if I scraped my pockets my laptop would do it more quietly...).

I know these won't be all games and more games will be up to scratch but it does stop the fact that right now, the consumer is being short changed which should be a superior product.

Anyway, what do you all know of this stuff do you notice the frames do you notice when you turn on your console and when you put on the game it goes from 1080p to 720p, Or is it a much ado about nothing? Maybe we should hold these companies to more scrutiny because it seems they are halting progression.

PS. Yeah, I remember the old Hertz thing, even my brother talked about that when he imported fighting games, telling me you could "feel" the difference in your fingers. I don't know about you guys over the pond but I first noticed this when I got the GameCube and it gave me the option to change Hz. I didn't know why and I didn't ask but when I did either or the 60hz always looked and played better but I did noticed to much and got into habit because I thought "the higher number must make it better".

I'm in a pretty foul mood, so any indication games are being intentionally dwarfed in quality will just make it worse. May watch those videos when my head is more clear.

Also, ooooo Black Panther. Excited for that one. Don't know much about the character, but what I do know seems legit.

the two vids won't help your mood much Tongue Out but they got me to write this thing.

Black Panther is a royal Batman but i'm doing a diservice as he runs a country and has links to Captain America not just his shield. One of his enemies might be in Avengers 2 played by Andy Serkis

I keep thinking that this "cinematic experience" is what they think sells their game to the masses. Then they try and rationalize the lower specs to the hard core with all this double speak.

It really does just come off as marketing spiel, everytime they say stuff like this I keep thinking (who's even giving them this informsion), they say these things with nothing to back it up..

Personally this doesn't bother me too much. I do think FPS is important for gameplay though, bottom line. I mentioned this problem with games like The Evil Within where the frames would dip which is just unacceptable in a game where precise aiming is important to survive etc. It can make the game frustrating when it doesn't need to be. Dark Souls 2 actually runs much better on PC with higher frame rates than it's console counter parts, although this matters most with multiplayer but the game looks amazing on PC!

If 3rd party publishers are deliberatley lowering their games quality then that means that I can keep playing newer games on my aging hardware for a few more years, thus saving money on a new PC rig. I can also wait for sales and play newer games at a discount price on STEAM in the near future. I also don't need to run out and by current gen console hardware right away either because I can just play new games on PC as well, some anyway. I already own a WiiU and a 3DS so I'm really  just missing out on 1st party games like Bloodborne on PS4 and new Halo game on XBone which aren't out yet. I'm personally waiting for a new Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts game to jump on board, and that will probably be next Spring and will be a PS4.

In regards to consoles I wouldn't mind so much if they at least left PC alone but they keep holding that back to to stop comparison or make it small. Which is false competition and helps no one.

I'm waiting on some first Party or exclusive PS4 games myself and a fw console only like GGXrd

I should probably be more concerned about this, but I'm not.  I'm just going to play games that I think are fun and not worry about that other stuff.

And that's fine, eventually they'll get their act together. if 60fps does help with gameplay overall though (and judging by the second vid, it's been provided since the snes era) then purposfully underperforming is sneaky.

I'm not too concerned about Ubisoft because I only play Rayman from them.

It is bad I never notice these sort of things? If I can see the game clearly which Ive never played a game blurred or anything of the sort on my consoles of recent times. Not saying that developers should undercut and literally not do there all to make games perform well, I mean they cost 60$ then yes, it needs to be brought to attention. The only time graphics or how it looks technically have been some what important on PC and laptop gaming. My consoles however, nope, no probs.

No, most don't notice that most HD channels are 720p but when you keep hearing the push for better detail, picture, graphics etc and you find out they cutting short on purpose you wonder where the money goes?

Pretty soon excuding Nintendo, consoles will have very superficial differences if this continues and it makes them look in adequate.

It doesn't bother me actually. I get why folks are angry but I'm in the camp of it looks good, plays good, I'm happy. I jump on to handheld, and tablets knowing full well that graphic wise it is a step down, but as long as the enjoyment is there, I'm good. As consumers we should be more aware of these things especially since we are paying $50-60 for a product that is held back a bit, but at the same time I feel that this is the trade off for not playing on a PC where people will pay hundreds for graphics cards to give them the latest and greatest.

I haven't really noticed the framerate issue in my gaming, and I own a 60" HDTV with both an Xbox 360/PS3. Though I do notice a framerate difference when I watch netflix on my XBox 360 and my PS3. Not sure if that makes or breaks the system for me though. So long as it looks decent and I'ma ble to kill things I'm usually cool with it.

Just makes you wonder what's the point then in trying to get a 4K HDTV when the current crop of games being offered can hardly justify it's purchase.
