Last night I finished playing  the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid. My first playthrough of a Metal Gear Game for my Year Of Metal Gear.

I finished the game in 5 Hours and 31 minutes. I ranked as a leopard or a Jaguar, I can't remember which one it was. I finished with the Good ending.

Tonight I started playing Metal Gear Solid, a PSone Classic I have on the PSN. It's the US version. I already had a game in progress but I decided to start over from scratch.

In MGS1 after you fight the Cyborg Ninja if you have a look around the room you will find a

Sony Playstation

*photo courtsey of GH

It is sitting on a desk next to a PC.

If you play the Twin Snakes you will find a Nintendo Gamecube.

This is just a small example of the Easter Eggs that make the Metal Gear games so interesting

That is why I can play them over and over....the game just never gets old...

Unlike me....who gets older everyday!  .

The Metal Gear games are gerat in their secrets. I love that feeling of finding new things when I replay replay tooit. One of the reasons I love Mass Effect so much. The amount of secrets there is ridiculous.

Casey.  Exactly! I found something this playthrough that i had never expierenced. It's wonderful when a game is like that. The replay value is endless. Mass Effect is one reason why i wont be jumping on the PS4 bandwagon, I have yet to play that series plus other games for the PS3

Hmmm...never noticed the PlayStation sitting there.  I do remember seeing a Yoshi doll in Twin Snakes on one of counters.  If you shoot it, it says "Yoshiiii" in Yoshi's cute voice.

Jamie: I remember that and the Gamecube is on the other side sitting on a desktop.

And if you play Twin Snakes, Psychomantis tells you about all the Mario Kart: Double Dash you play (assuming you have that game). I was also told I was careless cause I didn't save often enough. Screw him, that's just cause I was able to beat it quickly whenever I rented it. haha

Joe:  I had Eternal Darkness, another Silicon Knights game...I think Pyscho mentioned it...but I can't remember.

I had that one too, it was my first GLaD blog this month in fact. I think he did mention it in my case. Of course, given Eternal Darkness's M.O., I'm surprised he didn't say something like "I can see that ... actually I can see nothing, looks like one of your games decided to troll you and erase your memory ... wait, no; I'm getting a sign ... yeah, false alarm, all your crap's still there."

I need to try a MGS marathon soon. I have all the games (expect for MGS4) but I doulbt I'd go all the way and try the import version. I'm just not up for it.

NSonic:  This is the Year of the Snake YOST, so now is the best time for an MGS marathon!

I liked the Nintendo Easter Eggs in TTS. If you shot the Yoshi doll you'd hear a Mario "1UP" jingle. Plus, Psycho Mantis correctly guessed that I liked The Legend of Zelda and Metroid Prime, based on what was on my GCN memory card.

Another favorite GCN game of mine, Tales of Symphonia, has a giant floating Gamecube in the Renegades' Base.

Andrew:  I saw the word 1UP floating from Yoshi's character and I thought it was a tribute to 1UP.com...not the other way around...hahahah

Man, I've read such great things about the Metal Gear series, so back in 2005 I went and bought a copy of Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty. The first sneaking part, which is on a ship at sea, I could not get past. I tried again and again but never made it past those bastards, and from that point on whenever a sneaking part pops up in a game a bust out in a cold sweat :P

Maybe it's time to have another crack at it. I really wanna experience all that crazy Metal Gear stuff I've read about over the years!

Stratu23:  Yes, this is the YOTS so you must go back and beat that part....and then play them all!

GH! I never did manage to find that ps1 in MGS. I guess I missed a lot. Embarassed  Do you know if there's any hidden easter eggs in VR Missions?

GrayHaired

Aaron:  Im not sure about Easter eggs in the VR missions but I know that you can view close ups of the woman..Me Ling?  using the camera, and I mean like upskirt views!

It freaked me out when Psycho-Mantis knew I had been playing Symphony Of The Night. That crafty devil!

How about that, I never noticed it. I always like how that one part of the game where you think the TV is going nuts the "Video" in the corner was in the font that Sony TVs used when you switched over from different inputs (small but pretty cool detail in my opinion)

Chris: and even playing a digital game on the PS3 you still have to switch controllers!

Any differences between the Japanese version (besides the language of course)? I wouldn't mind having a dual language option on some of the Metal Gears. Too bad the cut-scenes take up the whole disc!

Halo:  Yes, the scene where Meryl releases Snake from the DARPA chief's cell, in the corner of the hall is a guard, butt in the air...Naked!  but in the japan version He is wearing shorts?

That's interesting because usually it's America that gets the censored version!

You inspired me to buy the HD collection on my Xbox last week.

It's odd though, because I've beaten every Metal Gear I've ever played, but whenever I tried to play MGS2 from the HD Collection, the controllers simply felt lost to me.. Ugh.. I suppose I just need to keep trying and quit being such a wussy..

GrayHaired

Yargz:  I am glad i could help you decide to buy the HD collection...Keep at it and the controls will start to feel natural.

Since I'm currently playing Twin Snakes I will have to keep an eye out for that Gamecube.
