No snow down here at the North Carolina shore. Yesterday it rained all day though. Today it's clear but windy and cold - reletively speaking - (I nearly froze my feet walking barefoot on the beach). I'm watching the Macy's Day Parade on tv, talking Minecraft with my neice and nephew, and drinking smoothies. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Happy Thanksgiving, Pixlbit Nation! I'm currently thankful for all the utility workers and plow truck drivers who got my electricity back on and have cleared the roads so I can go have Thanksgiving dinner with Jason's family. According to the National Weather Service, Portland got a bit over seven inches of snow yesterday, but I think we may have gotten a bit more in Freeport. It was heavy and wet, and we were having 45 mile per hour winds to go with it, so lots of power outages. I was watching Netflix when it started flickering here, and jumped up and shut off all the electronics and then unplugged the power strips. It went out completely at 10:30, so I lit a couple of candles and dug out the flashlights and read for a while by the light of my trusty flashlight before going to bed. I also dug out my 0 degree (that's 0 Fahrenheit, for all you metric people. It's -18 C) sleeping bag just in case, because no electricity means no heat in my humble abode. Didn't need to use it, but it was down to 55 degrees in the cottage when the power came back on a little after 2 AM. I know both what time it was and the temp, because I forgot to turn off all the lights. I also had to reset the thermostat on the heater, because every time the power blips, it resets to 50 degrees. The power must have gone off again between 2 and 6:15, because the thermostat was back to 50 again, and it was 58 degrees when I woke up.
This AM, I'm baking an apple crisp for my friend Michael. I frequently beg a stick of butter or a couple of stalks of celery or an apple or two from him, and this is my way of repaying him. Then, I have to go out and excavate the car so I can go pick up Jason and then head to his aunt's house for dinner. Normally, he'd take the train up here and we'd go from here, but he baked me a ham last night because I hate turkey, and travelling on public transportation with a baked ham can be problematic.
Now on to what I've been reading/watching/playing/listening to:
Reading: The Fellowship of the Ring, for the billionth time. Also started Club Dead, the third Sookie Stackhouse book.
Watching: Decided to check out Constantine. I like it, watched the first five episodes on Hulu Plus over the last couple of days. Also watched The Fantastic Four. It was ok, I don't think it deserved a lot of the hate it got, I've certainly seen worse movies. Another find were the Thorne movies. British crime dramas, based on a series of books, very dark in tone. Liked them a lot.
Listening to: Listened to a bit of classical this past week - Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Tchaikovsky's The Firebird Suite, and Smetana's Ma Vlast (My Fatherland). This AM, I listened to Bruce Molsky. I like to listen to music while I cook. The classical music was while I was making a truly awesome beef stew last weekend.
Playing: Finished my first playthrough of South Park: The Stick of Truth. I missed a bunch of stuff, and I wanted to play the Jew class, so I started a new game. I think I'll want to check out all the classes eventually, plus, it'll be fun to see how many trophies I can get before I get bored. And it will give me time to decide what to play next.
Alright, time to go find my car under that snowdrift. The plow guy came while I was typing this up, so my life just got a lot easier.
