Darth's Black Friday Acquisitions: Whole Lotta Lording

So I'm not much for going out on Black Friday.  In my part of California, people tend to go batshit crazy and get stupid with each other over discounted goods.

I know, I know....that's EVERYWHERE in the States on this particular day.

This momentary lapse of reason and manners didn't prevent me from getting a couple things I've wanted for a long time, though:

I found Shadow Of Mordor Legion Edition on sale for 30 bucks on the PSN.  I'm not one of those cats that absolutely has to have a game in physical form, so I asked Monica if she'd let me snap it up, being as I've wanted this game since it came out.  At half off (at least half off, I'm not sure if the Legion Edition was more than 60 bucks, though I am sure that the added content was digital-exclusive), I nabbed my most wanted Xmas prez a bit early.

I also snapped up this game:

Lord Of The Rings: War In The North.  It released back in 2011 to middling reviews, but hey, I'm a fan of all things Tolkien, and when you factor in Action-RPG....well, I was happy to part with the 10 bucks.  Also got this one from PSN from the Co-Op Sale that's currently underway.

So....all in all...added to my monstrous backlog....the two aforementioned titles, my recent acquisitions of SSX, Alice: MR, and Battlefield BCII....and the gigacntic timesink that is Dragon Age Inquisition....and the fact that my little nephew gave me his old 3DS XL (which I have to get fixed because he managed to screw up the charging port)....well, it all boils down to the fact that I have enough on my hands until Bloodborne releases.

Probably for a long time after it releases, to be honest.

Hope you all had a good Turkey Day.

Cheers!

Overall I liked War in the North and I think you'll find some things to love in it. I did a sort-of review of it a couple years ago if you want to take a look: War in the North.

I tear the game a new one in the first half but I pour on the love in the second half of the review. I just realized that was such a long time ago! I'm a Souls series aficionado nowadays but if you read the War in the North review I mention how I still had yet to play the first Dark Souls at that time lol. I tried to use comedy a lot more in my reviews back then. I don't have any of that flavor in my more recent stuff like the Alien Isolation review.

I'll check the review out for sure.  I'm a sucker for LOTR video games!

Ok, I just bought War in the North based on this. :) It was 5 bucks. How could I not?

Nice....maybe we can co-op together

Well we could try as long as you don't mind co-oping with a spastic who flails around and falls down a lot. I'm sorta the Vivi of co-op partners without the awesome magic skills. :)

We'll see.  Something tells me you won't be playing it for a long minute, especially if you get going with Dark Souls II.

I'd actually rather you play Dark Souls II instead.  You've been missing out....now's your time to experience the thrill of death.

Yep, not sure when I'm going to get to any of them. Just know the prices were right.

I played War in the North co-op with a friend. It was great. The only issue I had was that once while my buddy was away from the game for a moment, I fought through to another checkpoint. I thought it would be ok, but the game wouldn't sync the two saves after that and we couldn't enter the final boss together until we somehow found a way - I forget how. My buddy still didn't get the achievement for beating the boss though, and there was no solution but to play all over again. We didn't do that though. I wonder if there's been a patch for that little co-op related issue or not.

War in the North was great, but I honestly felt it was too hard to play solo. Quite fun though!

It'll be ok.  I won't be getting around to it for a month or so....plenty of Dragon Age and Shadow of Mordor to play!

I'm getting SOM for Christmas from my mom and dad. She bought it yesterday on Amazon for 30$. I tryed to help her find it for 25 but by the time we got around to purchasing it had shot up 5 dollars.  I get paid Monday so I'm gonna try to do my very last bit of Christmas stuff. Wish I could have grabbed somethings today but oh well. Sonys sale should last till 5 pm my time on monday so I might try and grab me some more games.

Black Friday deals are sorta misleading.  I've found far better deals closer to Xmas than I've seen on BF.  Happy hunting!

I went to Target yesterday on Black Friday kinda of late morning to check out what was on sale and the crowds were way died down, it wasn't bad at all

Ending up picking up The Evil Within for $25 :)

I almost opted for Evil Within....but I wanted Mordor way more.  Good find, nonetheless

I'm buying my mom a new set of pots in a deal I saw on amazon.  It's going to be my parent's anniversary present, as they married december 26th 50 years ago.

Nothing like giving cookware as an anniversary gift.

Oh Black Friday and people going nuts. Yeah it seems to happen everywhere that's why my cousins and I went a couple of hours after opening when everyone already fought over super cheap TVs. That was a good sale on PSN, I saw a couple I wanted but passed because I already bought quite a few games.

I'm looking forward to getting SSX for free on XBLA later this month, it'll be the first time I get to retry the series after it fell from grace from the Online Pass bastardization.

Who knows? it just might be fun.
