Quick Hits: I Blame Hipsters!

Good Friday Morning Pixlbit Nation! It is a gloomy Friday Morning here in Rainy Southern California. Yes, it is true Southern California doesn’t deal well with weather that isn’t triple digit hot, or in the 70s. Anything that falls out of the sky people tends to forget the rules of the road. I blame Hipsters. So I am typing this while listening to my “Not Heard Christmas Music” playlist and I have to say some of the songs people write for the holidays are not that great, along with some of the covers of songs that I like. It’s an odd thing but that’s just me. Anyways so it is Friday, and I need to make a few calls this morning (I’m waiting for a couple of businesses to open) and I have to run down to the Post Office to mail out my stuff for the baby cousins, so we need to get this edition of Quick Hits up and running!

Before we officially get Quick Hits running, my 13th Ranked Aztecs defeated the crosstown "rival" San Diego last night in Men's Basketball. The Torerros aka "Little Sisters" lost another game to Big Brother. S-D-S-U, SDSU AZTECS FIGHT!

This was my view Thursday morning as I went to the local K-Mart for a ship to store order. I entered the store when it was just gloomy, and when I left the store a half hour it was sprinkling…or raining

Yeah use your own term for this one. I’m on team sprinkling!

*Ok I decided to change soundtracks and went with my Top 200 Christmas Songs. Sorry Not Heard but how is a Christmas song, a “Christmas Song” when it involves a guy seeing his ex girlfriend at the grocery store and they end up drinking in her car? What the hell? I blame Hipsters.

Anyways back to Quick Hits, so there was a Record Store Day after Thanksgiving, and I didn’t know about it until Thanksgiving night, but by then my available funds were spoken for, and really I didn’t want to spend a lot for an album that I already had just because it was on vinyl. While looking through Instagram I did see a release that I now kick my own butt on because I could have own this beauty

The Wu-Tang Clan single C.R.E.A.M. on a W 45. I’m assuming it was probably around $20 considering my Paramore “Broken Record” was $17. Those are cool for framing and I don’t think I would actually play it. I’m starting to have a problem with Record Store Day. The concept I like but a lot of these albums are getting pricy and more resellers are starting to pop up. It’s a shame because its taking the item out of someone’s hands who actually wants the item to listen to/cherish/etc. I blame Hipsters!

The tree is officially up in the casa and of course the highest ornament on the tree is

Also thanks for being terrible Jay Cutler! Just looking on paper how in the hell is that Bears team so freaking terrible? They could easily be the next Greatest Show on Turf if they had a QB who actually gave a damn. Sorry Bears fan.

The big news is that a bunch of Trailers were released

Star Wars was the biggest around these parts because its freaking Star Wars! There are a lot of jokes surrounding it and here are a couple of my favorites

Stephen Colbert explaining the light saber and

Reddit explaining the light saber.

The other trailer I was waiting for was for the Terminator. From my understanding of the story based off the trailer after the most recent Terminator John Conner sends his friend back in time *cough the start of the first film, but apparently Sarah Conner knows because another good guy Terminator (The Govenator!) was also sent to protect her because Storm Shadow (from the terrible GI Joe flicks) is now the new Terminator. Yes the robots got wise and sent a freaking ninja robot! Apparently the scriptwriters got wind of the latest X-Men flick during production and made their own Back in Time flick. Someone needs to sneak in a Huey Lewis and the News reference if they do a flick that goes back in time

I know you’ve been wondering what are my thoughts about this week’s installments of Reality Shows and well here you go

MTV’s The Challenge: Battle of the Exes II

MTV officially announced the cast, and that this season the show will be dedicated to two of the cast members who lost their lives, Diem Brown and Ryan Knight. Diem was one of the female competitors who had an on again, off again romance with CT and was battling Cancer. Knight was the jokester on the show who on one of the previous Challenges tormented his ex girlfriend Jemmye with the one thing she fears the most, Ketchup. Yes the funky red stuff kids drown their fries and hot dogs in. This is my favorite competition Reality Show because it takes the casts from old MTV properties and pits them against each other in athletic competitions and zany events. I’m hoping one day the Jersey Shore cast gets involved because the people want to see CT take on Ronnie (it’s the Pacquiao vs Mayweather for reality shows).

Masterchef Junior

We were so close to getting Gordon Ramsay go Hells Kitchen on a bunch of 9-12 year olds. This could be why this week’s challenge was held outdoors instead of on the Hell’s Kitchen set. At different times each team just couldn’t push food out. Chef Ramsay started with his “Everyone come here and touch this” line because someone undercooked the food, and at times the quality just wasn’t there. Props to the kids for making the fried squash blossoms filled with cheese, ceviche, and filet mignon.

Vanderpump Rules

Oh my favorite trashy show’s storyline for this week was one of the wait staff apparently “Motorboated a dude’s crotch” even though she has a boyfriend…who is best friends with the bartenders at Sur. Yes one of the bartenders saw this “motorboating” take place at a club with a couple of other people. Yes if these folks are going to cheat on their SO’s why do it among the same circle of friends?

*Ok so I tried calling the place I’m supposed to call and apparently government buildings have busy signals. What? What year is this? What happened to the next available operator will speak to you. Blah! I blame Hipsters.

Pickups!

Games

So I thought I was good for picking up games because Black Friday came and went and took my money. While reading through my Twitter timeline I saw that Cheapassgamer posted some info about some crazy K-Mart Sale. The store they own Sears had an insane sale where 3DS XL’s were $60 because of a price error, so naturally I wanted to see if the parent store, K-Mart, was doing something equally as crazy. It turns out that they had a ton of games on sale starting at $5. Everything from PS3, 306, 3DS, and the next gen stuff. The majority of it was store pickup and I only have one K-Mart in the area the pickings were slim. I did however to pickup two games that I have wanted to try for a while now, but was waiting for a price drop. I bought both games for $26, which is less than the retail price for the 3DS game

I now have a copy of Mario Golf! Beyond Two Souls I keep looking at while at the local GameStop but didn’t want to pay $20+ on a game I’m interested in only because it has two famous actors in the game. I got it for $10, which I am happy with. Mario Golf was $15, which is half off its normal retail price.

One of the other games I wanted from the sale wasn’t available at K-Mart, so I took a chance and had Walmart Price Match it for me. The employee was very friendly and didn’t know the procedure to Price Match and wanted to get a manager involved. Her coworker said just give it to him and proceeded to walk to the game case and get my game. After a couple of minutes I got this game for $10

I call it Grand Theft Auto in the Lego Universe. I know the 3DS version is inferior to the WiiU version, but I’m not getting a WiiU anytime soon (heck I haven’t fired up my PS4 in a week) and besides I’m happy with this version. Lots of funky missions, and there are fights between the cop minifig and random gang members. It is a fun GTA clone with Lego.

Originally I just wanted to browse in the local GameStop. BROWSE. I was in the area and I figured a quick stop wouldn’t hurt. A half hour later I left with a couple of games. Blah. Thanks a lot willpower. I blame Hipsters.

I couldn’t remember if I owned this installment of Test Drive but after a half hour of playing it, I think I downloaded the PS+ version when it was free. At least I have a physical copy now. I just got my first license in the game and I am currently living life fast AND furious.

I’ve wanted to try Resistance for a while, especially after playing through Borderlands and not getting dizzy. I thought this game would be a lot of fun, and it so far after the first mission it kind of is. The missions are repetitive and hopefully there is more excitement thrown in once I get into the later levels.

*Ok so I got a hold of a person after finally getting past the busy ringtone and into the queue, and I am golden. Now I have to go to a spot where the parking is a pain in the…yeah. Again I blame Hipsters.

Music

Nothing much this week except for a couple of albums from a group I listened to a bit of because of the Starbucks App. Every week the app gives you the iTunes freebie of the week instead of going inside an actual Starbucks and getting the little card that’s on the counter. Because of a single I listened to I bought these albums

They were $8 each so it wasn’t bad and who doesn’t like acapella?

Toys

While roaming around K-Mart after picking up my games I spotted these in the Lego aisle. Usually I only see them at Toys R Us, but this time they caught my eye especially because K-Mart is also going 40% off on some of their toys. Anyways I ended up adding two of these non Lego sets to the collection.

Remember when the Undertaker stopped being the dead guy wrestler and went to biker persona? Well now you too can relive this epic era in the WWE. This was on clearance for $6.

I also bought this set for $8 because I told my friend who watches a lot of wrestling (I’m more of a casual hey it’s on, let’s watch for a bit fan) that Bray Wyatt has the best ring entrance since John Morrison

Bray Wyatt’s

John Morrison’s

You would think for someone who loves Reality Shows, this would be one of them because its also a loosely scripted soap opera but I haven’t been into it as much since the big nWo versus Attitude Era WWF days. I got to see both Raw and Monday Night Nitro live while in college.

Alright Pixlbit there might be a bit of sun trying to get through the cloud cover which means I should end my latest Quick Hits here and maybe make that trip to the Post Office. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Big Hair Christmas Music Video. Freaking Awesome.

That’s all for now, more later!

My favourite Xmas song so far is the Peanuts instrumental version "Christmas Time is Here"

by Vince Guaraldi trio. The kids singing one is okay but this version is more soothing.

I blame hipsters for ruining the trilby.

The lightsaber is dumb and prompt make more sense if it had one bladed hilt.

Good call on the song, but I do love the version with the kids singing.

Oh those crazy Hipsters taking a perfectly good hat and ruining it for normal folks. Blame them!!!

Hipsters are the cause for all the world's problems.

Yeah they are, especially when I want to buy records at thrift stores and they already went through them. Blah!

Which track did you hear by Pentatonix? I heard Little Drummer Boy. They're pretty good, but I don't think I'd buy their albums. I've been listening to Christmas music, too, but I'm more on the folky end of the spectrum.

I believe it was Silent Night. I thought it was good, but I found that their version of Sleigh Ride was my favorite out of their album.

Folk Christmas songs sounds pretty good, heck Christmas songs in general are awesome except for the songs that get a bit preachy.

OK, then I have two recommendations for you: Jed Marum - Rejoice! and Castlebay: Yuletide Revels 2010. Both are by friends of mine. Both more traditional than what passes for folk in most album stores these days. And the nice thing about buying through CD Baby is that it's for independent artists and CD Baby only charges a flat fee instead of a percentage, so the artists see more profit than they would through a studio.

I started checking out the Castlebay album and I do like the instrumentals. I will check out the other band today. I like how there is an option to buy digital, or physical. Thanks for the recomendations!

I'll pass on your appreciation to Fred and Julia (Castlebay). I'll probably see them in the next week or two. Glad you liked it. Another favorite Christmas CD is by a Maine folk group called Schooner Fare called Home for the Holidays. You can probably find that one on Amazon.

As much as I like the Terminator movies (the first two anyway), did they ever explain how the T-1000 was able to go back in time despite the first one stating that only organic material could be sent back in time? I know I'm being a little nitpicky, but it's just something that bugs me.

Haha, the details. As my friend and I like to joke about in movies and TV shows, we always say "You're not supposed to notice that".

that MTV show... I've never seen so many hard abs and vacant stares in one place.

Yup, its the beautiful people doing dumb and crazy things. Most of the fun is watching the drama that takes place in the house, and the strategy that goes into voting people out.

I like that Swiss lightsaber better. I at least understand the uses of those other things. lol

How 'bout them Cowboys! Been hearing that a lot these past two days. Guess we really do decide to come back out after wins like that. lol

Hopefully the movie gives a little more info about that odd lightsaber.

Thank goodness this isn't another 8-8 season, and the Cowboys are beating teams they're supposed to beat. Hopefully their Road Warrior mentality is in full force this Sunday.

Resistance: Burning Skies for the Vita! I totally forgot about that game. Now that I have a Vita and the game is $8, I'm tempted to go get it.

goaztecs

12/09/2014 at 01:58 PM

You should get it! There's also some random feature that allows you to use the Vita as a controller on I believe the second Resistance game on the PS3. I should track down a copy of that game and try it.

I need to play all the Resistance games. I've only played like half of the first one.

By the way, Stephen Colbert says he saw Star Wars two weeks before everyone else ... I blame him (hipster).

Yup he's using the "I was into it before it was cool" line. Hipster.
