Hello Pixlbit.  Under my current circumstances, I'm not working and I'm not playing, so I have plenty of time to put up a blog.  I may even have enough time to work on a 2nd blog and post it in a week or 2.  Do I dare?

Games I Beat:

 photo Devil-Survivor-Overclocked_zpsc813820c.jpeg

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor - Overclocked (3DS)

I played through this game several times on the DS.  It's one of my favorite DS games.  Overclocked (3DS) is pretty much the same game with bonus content.  More story is added to the end.  Droping another 10+ hrs to the game and voice was added to characters for cut scenes.  This is the best version of the game.  If you're going to play Devil Survivor, make sure it's Overclocked.  I can't wait to play the undated version of Devil Survivor 2 (3DS).

Games I'm Playing:

Dragon Age: Inquisition (360)

I've been waiting to play this game for a long time.  I got it on day 1 and ran into a few problems that made me push playing it back a bit.  But, I learned some things.  A bit of a rant is coming.

#1. If you're going to get DA3, get the XB1, PS4, PC versions.  They look great!  On the 360 and PS3, it doesn't look that great and there are other annoying graphical issues.  Characters don't load completely, odd textures, shiny bits, etc... There is no way to carry over your save data from DA1 & DA2, so just get the better versions on the newer systems (I plan to get the PS4 version in the future).  Which brings me to...

#2. You have to use the Dragon Age Keep website to create a history for DA3 (or you can just go with what the game gives you).  After seeing the frustration I went through, my wife choose to skip the Keep.  After experiencing the frustration I went through, I was determine to make the crap work.  If you're planning to do the Keep, do yourself a favor and use Google Chrome to do it in.  I think they may have fixed the issues with Firefox.  At the time, Firefox had issues and I use Opera, which was almost useless.  I wrestled with the Dragon Age Keep for hours before I read in a forum that Google Chrome was the best browser to use.  Damn shame they couldn't of mention that info on the Dragon Age Keep page.  Could of saved me some unneeded frustration.

#3. DA3 is one of those games you have to play on a hdtv.  I own a lot of consoles and I hook them all up on one huge tv in my gameroom.  Sadly, my gameroom tv is standard definition.  It was almost impossible to play DA3 on that tv.  The text was unreadable and believe it or not, the graphics looked worse.  Rant end.

Other than that stuff, the game has been pretty good.  I'm about 44 hrs in.  The story is good so far.  The controls were a bit weird at first, but I'm pretty use to them now.  The menu system is a mess.  I think it's confusing and it takes too many clicks through the menus to get to the screen you want.  I'm over 44 hrs into this game and I'm still learning where everything is.

Dragon Quest IV (DS)

When I'm not playing DA3, I'm playing DQ4.  I'm a little over 34 hrs in.  It's a good game and I hope to finish it in the next month, since I don't play it everyday and I'm usually working nights when I do.  I'm really enjoying the DQ games.  I finished DQ6 a few months back and a few years ago I finished my first DQ game, DQ9.  I plan to play DQ5 next year and hopefully go back and finish DQ8.

Games I Bought:

Dragon Age: Inquisition (360) - This is the main game I'm playing.

Persona Q (3DS) - It's not even open yet.  My plan is to start it after I finish DQ4.  I don't want to start too many rpgs on one system at a time.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim LE (PS3) - I played it a bit.  Great beginning.  I'll get back to it when I'm finish with DA3.

Chaos Code (PS3) - Been looking at this game for a while.  Finally saw it on sale.

The Witcher 2 (PC) - GOG.com had a promotion to get this game for free.  I got it.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (360) - HD version was only $4!

Grand Theft Auto V (360) - One of my friends got the XB1 version and gave me his old 360 version.  Friends are awesome.

Babysitting Mama (Wii) - It was cheap and I wanted it in my collection.  Don't judge me. Embarassed

Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut UE (PS3) - Got it a while back on sale.

Metroid II - Return of Samus (3DS) - I had enough Nintendo points to get it for free.

Injustice: Gods Among US UE (360) - Saw it for a nice price.  Has all the characters too.  I couldn't pass it up.  I've been playing it with my kids.

 photo 2026835-684759_20130205_003_zps0a18b0b4.jpg

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (PS3) - Been waiting a long time for this game to be on sale.  As soon as it was, I got it.  It's kind of a creepy game.  I never played the original game, which looks very similar to Super Mario Bros.

Suikoden (PS3) - I always wanted this game, but the physical copy is at an insane price.  I guess digital games are good for something.  I'll pick up the 2nd game next year.

Okami HD (PS3) - It was 50% off, so I was like, "what the hell".

South Park: The Stick of Truth (360) - I started it and was enjoying it.  Then came DA3.  I'll get back to it later.  Good thing I didn't make it too far.

 photo sleeping-dogs-pic-12_zps6f3c6a8a.jpg

Sleeping Dogs (360) - I play it a bit when I'm not playing DA3, which isn't often lately.  My plan is to finish it before I start GTA5.

Strider (PS3) - I heard good things about this game.  It's currently on sale, so I had to get it.

Jade Empire: SE (PC) - Got this on sale a while back.  GOG.com is great.

Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition (360) - I hadn't played any recent MK games, so I'm more than a bit out of practice.  I play this a little with my oldest son.

That's all I have for now.  Hopefully, I can start on my collection blogs soon and have them post before the year ends.  What are you guys playing?

A lot of pickups there, I also bought Dragon Age: Inquistion. Amazon dropped the price to $40 (new) for PS4, and I jumped all over that.

Yesterday I bought Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix (PS3) impulsively, there was one Limited Edition left on the shelf and I just had to have it.

It was kind of cool that PS+ gave Deadly Preminition and the Hitman HD Trilogy away this month. Games I wanted but not necessarily wanted to purchase.

As far as what I am playing, I am about to finish Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, I am on the either last or second to last mission. I am completing all the challenges and going for the platnuim trophy because I already have 71% of the trophies, I might as well go for my first PS4 plat.

I want to get Shadow of Mordor.  I watched friends playing it and it looks like fun.  I'll probably get the PS4 version.  I just need to get a PS4.  Maybe next year.

I'm playing Dragon Age on my PC.  It looks good.  I'd like to connect it to my tv, but I can't really imagine playing it with a controller, as I played Origins with a mouse too, and it just makes sense to me more at this point.  Otherwise, it looks ok on my laptop screen.  I am impressed with the graphics.  I like the design of the topography of the levels and stuff.  IT's really natural and real feeling.

I'm only six hours in though.  Just made it to the first city.  I really like it, but I have been busy with holiday stuff.

I need to get back to DQ IV.  I love DQ games.

I read a few PC gamers had issues with the controls for DA3.  The complaint was they felt like they were set up for controllers and the keyboard and mouse were an after thought.  I guess you don't have that problem.  Or maybe I read wrong.

It is different from origins.  I dunno i got used to it but there are some annoyances.

Tactical mode definitely feels that way, it's something that only works with an analog stick, not so much with a mouse. The point and click interface for the entire game going away I can understand since there's more verticality to maps, so it may not work, but tactical mode feels like they dropped the ball for the PC version.

jgusw

12/14/2014 at 11:57 PM

That's sound about right with I read.  I don't even use tactical mode.  Well, I haven't had a reason to use it yet.

I've had a couple instances, mostly when I needed a mage to revive someone. But combat seems mostly about letting everyone do their own thing since there's no true healing spells and mages to a good job with the barriers.

jgusw

12/15/2014 at 09:10 AM

Lately, my strategy is being the bait (I'm a warrior) and letting the team do most of the attacking.  If someone falls, I revive them myself.  I like that anyone can revive a member just by going next to them and hold the "a" button (probably the "x" for the PS).  It's like Gears of War.  That has been working for now.  I took out 2 dragons with that strategy.

I have a rogue archer so I'm mostly hanging back with my mage while my two melee attackers go at it. If the magic's low, stealth has been really useful to revive them though. Used it more here than my rogues in Origins and 2 combined.

12/15/2014 at 05:23 PM

My wife does the same thing.  She's playing a rogue and when her people go down, she goes into stealth mode and revive them.

Funny thing is, we found the "revive" thing totally by accident.  I was playing one day and noticed when I ran past a teammate's body, an "a" popped up.  I ran back wondering did it do anything or was it just another glitch.  I held down "a" and bam!  My homie got back on his feet and went back to fighting.  It didn't even use up my potions.  AWESOME! Surprised

Loving Dragon Age also, it's shaping up to be my favorite in the series and my GOTY. Start was slow and I ran into a few bugs, but everything else has been great.

jgusw

12/14/2014 at 03:15 PM

Yeah, there are still issues that pop up that keep me from playing the game.  Game crashes, can't talk to NPCs, origin server is acting up, etc...  Until I finish it, my favorite DA game is still DA:O.  As of now, DA:I is tied with DA2. I'm one of the few that really liked DA2.

Be sure to let us know how Metroid II and Babysitting Mama compare.

jgusw

12/14/2014 at 03:16 PM

It's not fair to compare them to each other.  Two different kind of games.  I'm sure there is no game like Babysitting Mama. Laughing

In between games at the moment and trying to decide what to play.

I don't like videogame limbo.  I just play a little of this and that until something grabs me.  Sometimes I just commit to something and then there are times I just take a little break from gaming anf focus on my other hobbies.

Yeah, I've been reading more and starting to train for the snowshoe race I'm doing in six weeks.

What's a snowshoe race?  You race in snowshoes?

Ranger1

You got it in one. It's 3.5 miles, first one I've ever done. Heck, I don't even run...yet.

That sounds exhausting and fun to watch. Cool

A lot of goodness there. I love the Devil Survivor games. I sold my physical copy of overclocked but bought it digitally from the eShop when it was $14.99.

I now have DQ 4 on Android. Again my physical copy was sold a while back but now I can play it on a big(ger) screen.

I finally picked up Persona 4 for my PS TV. I bought a physical copy at EB. It looks pretty good on a 27" screen but I'm not going to play it until I finish my Suikoden run.

I've decided to play through the first game before starting 2 because I want to use my save file when I start the second game.

I'm still on the fence about getting a PSTV.  I bought P4 Golden a while back and I don't have anything to play it on.  I want to get a new system next year, but I just don't know what.  If I save my money and stop buying games, I may be able to get 2 new systems.

12/14/2014 at 09:00 PM

Well all I needed the PS TV to do is play the Vita RPGs and since it seems to do that plus PSP RPGs on my TV that sold me.

jgusw

12/15/2014 at 12:01 AM

That's why I wanted a PSTV.  I thought it would be awesome to play Vita games on a TV.  But, then I realized, I like playing rpgs and I play rpgs a lot more on handhelds.  I looks like I'm leaning toward getting a Vita.

I reviewed Babysitting Mama.  One of the weirdest Wii games ever!

I also reviewed Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams on the Wii U.  That game has awesome graphics.  It is based on an old Mario clone.  In fact, it's rumored that Nintendo asked the makers not to release the original Giana Sisters back in the day because it was so much like Super Mario Bros.

Okami was my Game of the Year in 2006.

jgusw

12/14/2014 at 06:22 PM

I want to play Babysitting Mama just to experience it.  Right now it's just sitting on my shelf.  I made sure to get the baby and everything. Laughing

I played a bit of Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.  It's a neat game.  I would like to get my hands on the original game too.  I think there is a pc version.

I hadn't played Okami since it released on the PS2 back in 2006.  I thought about getting the Wii version, but I read it had some problems.

Still need to get Overclocked, Devil Survivor is one of my favs.

Speaking of NeatherRealm games (sorta) i'm planning to get Tekken Tag for the Wii U becaus it's been years since i've played a proper Tekken Game.

I've had no time for games the past 2 months, working in retail is hectic this time of year.

jgusw

12/15/2014 at 12:03 AM

I got Tekken Hybrid (PS3) a few months ago and I still hadn't played it.  The last Tekken game I played was Tekken 6 and I didn't play it much.

that's a bevy of good games up there chief.

What am I playing?  a whole lot of Dragon Age: Inquisition.  After that, gonna be either Mordor or Assassin's Creed Rogue.

jgusw

12/15/2014 at 12:08 AM

After I finish Dragon Age 3, I think I'll wrap up Sleeping Dogs and then jump back on South Park.  Hopefully, I won't play through DA:I again right away.

I'm waiting for Borderlands The Presequel DLC to drop, so I've been playing some games roughly at random. Today was Resident Evil 4 and Angry Birds Star Wars and tomorrow will be Phoenix and Sid Meier's Pirates. I think I might preorder Fantasy Life for 3DS tomorrow as well. I saw it was out on Dec 27th and the more I think about it, the more I want to play it.

jgusw

12/15/2014 at 09:14 AM

Lately, my son has been playing Angry Birds Star Wars a lot.  I don't now what Fantasy Life is.  I'll have to look it up.

KnightDriver

Fantasy Life  "is a blend of life simulation and RPG" according to IGN. In my words: an RPG plus Animal Crossing created by Level-5.

I'll check that Re-release of Devil Survior. I really want to get into the game of Atlus.

It's better than the original.  Also check out the rerelease of Devil Survivor 2.  Comes out next year for 3DS.

That is a good list of pickups. I loved San Andreas, so much so I bought it again on the iPad. As for what I am playing, I'm currently hooked on Lego Marvel on the PS4. I'm 47% finished and I haven't even gone back into the story mode yet to finish collecting everything.

jgusw

12/17/2014 at 03:03 PM

I bought Lego Marvel a few months ago while it was on sale.  I need to go back to unlock more characters.

I guess I'll avoid DA:I for the time being.

I'm hoping Suikoden II will be relisted for the PSP. Can't see myself buying it without it being accessable on my PSP. PS3 is nice but I don't have a Vita.

jgusw

12/24/2014 at 01:30 AM

I noticed Suikoden II wasn't playable on the PSP.  Maybe it's a mistake?  One of these days I'll get a Vita.  They're not selling well, so I hope I can get one real cheap, soon.

I liked Injustice a LOT. Way more than I thought I would since I didn't know hardly any of the characters. Strider was pretty good too if a bit motonous at times. I've been waiting on the PC version of GTA V... but man, I don't know if that's gonna happen. Hopefully they will actually bother to optimize it.

jgusw

01/12/2015 at 10:01 AM

The new GTA V looks nice.  I think I've decided to get a PS4, so I'll get GTA V again on that console.  I still hadn't played Strider.
