I love my ipad too. gonna upgrade sometime next year.. I have a 3rd generation right now. Might get a mini 3 or an Air 2, I dunno yet. IT's amazing how many different things you can do with them, from surfing to games, to even multitrack music recording. Plus I used it to navigate on our motorhome trip.
The Second Annual Chris Goes Award Show

Well Happy Monday Pixlbit Nation! Since 2014 is almost over I felt it was time to bring back a new favorite, The Second Annual Chris Goes Awards Show! Last year I thought it would be fun to look back at the games I played, and find which ones were my absolute favorites. Well it is back and I am excited because by my Backloggery Stats I think I had a good year of gaming. I beat 30 games and completed 3 games over 9 formats. I am actually on pace to beat at least one more before the New Year. Anyways let’s get started with The Second Annual Chris Goes Awards Show!
Favorite 3DS Game
This was the game I bought with my 3DS XL and earlier this year I finally sat down and played through it. There is so much fun involved with this game because it takes me back to playing Super Mario Bros. on the NES. I had the sweaty palms, slowing down the pace of the game in certain points, and in some points trying to memorize little patterns. What added to my enjoyment of Super Mario 3D Land was that it was pure fun. There were no trophies/achievements that went off while playing. The only thing I paid attention to was looking for the 3 giant coins in every level. Here’s to hoping the Mario game I bought on Black Friday will continue this trend.
Favorite Android Game
The reason why I went with Injustice on the Android platform instead of the iPad Air is because of the size of the tablet. Before my Android tablet called it a career I was on pace to building up a solid team to finish off the final three sets of levels. This game offered a lot for a tablet game including tournaments with special unlockable characters, and unlocking items in the console versions. The controls were solid for a fighting game with swipes and tapping on the screen. When I get a new Android tablet I hope to continue my march to taking this game off Mount Backlog
Favorite DS Game
Over the past year I went on a crazy binge of buying tons of DS games. They’re super cheap, and there are some solid titles. 7 Wonders II was one of my favorite Match 3 games because it had a little story mode where you would build up various Wonders of the Ancient World. This was my game to play before I called it a night. I felt that the 3DS XL was the perfect platform for a game like this because it used both screens without trying to force the latest and greatest options available.
Favorite iPad Game
One of the best parts about tablet gaming is that there are a ton of free games on the Google Play Store, and iTunes Store. One of my favorite genres on the tablet are the multiplayer base games because it all comes down to base layout and upgrading the base. What captured my attention with this game over the more popular Clash of Clans is because this game is set in the Star Wars Universe. I used to play this game a lot but now I check on it maybe a couple of times a day, and still be able to take part in invading other bases or collecting in game currency.
Favorite PS3 Game
This was a tough category because I played quite a few games that could take the spot as Favorite PS3 Game including NCAA Football 14, which I am still playing. I decided to go with The Show because this was the first baseball game I played since 2K5 that I enjoyed, and played through a number of full seasons. Road to the Show is easily the best feature in this game because you control your player. For someone who loves baseball but can’t stand the length of a nine-inning game, this is perfect. You only play when you are at bat or if you are going to be involved on the defensive side of the ball. I loved being able to upload my save file from the PS3 to the Vita, and bring my game on the road. I can’t wait for MLB The Show 15.
Favorite PS4 Game
This category is little nuts because I’ve only had my PS4 for a couple of weeks, but so far there is a clear favorite, and I don’t think I am halfway finish with the game. The thing I liked about the original inFamous is super hero vibe. We’ve all wondered what would happen if we had super powers and how we would act. Would we use it for good, or go nuts and be evil. This game should just be called Super Hero Simulator 2K14 because that is all I am doing, running around and being the good super hero. This is the only game where I want to start another game save and just be the evil Super Hero and play both storylines.
Here’s to hoping that 2015 brings more games that are just as enjoyable as inFamous Second Son!
Favorite PS Vita Game
This was a no brainer, Borderlands 2 was a game I took a chance on because I like to get dizzy while playing first person shooters but I had no problems with this game, and for a good block of three months this game rarely left my Vita. There was a lot of content to enjoy, from playing the story mode, to finding pop culture references, I would sit and play for a couple of hours each play through just roaming around the Borderlands Universe. What prolonged the gameplay after finishing the story was all the extra side missions and trying to get to that magical level 50 (I’m still on 48) by either kicking up the difficulty and playing through the story again, or just roaming around. I am hoping that the next version of Borderlands will be ported to the Vita so I can continue the storyline.
Favorite Wii Game
Cruis’n was the first game that I played through on the Wii mainly because it was the arcade port of Fast and Furious. I do love the Fast and the Furious Franchise and this game is head and shoulders above the official Fast and Furious game that was released earlier this year. Even though this game is “just” an arcade racer the fun factor is still there. Winning races, unlocking car upgrades, cars, and being able to go back and try to improve your race standings is the perfect mix for a good arcade racer. If you do play this game, get the plastic steering wheel add-on because that makes the world of difference to controlling this game. I tried to play it with just the Wiimote and it was difficult.
Favorite X-Box 360 Game
Saints Row IV was by far my favorite game on the console and it wasn’t even close. The over the top zany storyline, and characters on top of a solid GTA Clone made this game my favorite, and one of the favorites of 2014. I really enjoyed Saints Row The Third and this game is just leaps and bounds ahead of it even through it all happens on the same map, with the same gameplay. What pulled me into this game right away was the environment. It borrows so much from pop culture where you are playing and just start laughing because a certain song starts playing, or you realize that the game makers are poking fun at a popular movie. Usually I am not a fan of DLC, but the approach the developers took to make the DLC seem like a director’s cut with commentary is genius. In 2015 I will most likely tackle this game on the PS3 (and hoping it will be released on the PS4). If you decide to play this game buy the DLC!
Favorite Console Purchase
In 2014 I bought three consoles, the Wii, iPad Air, and PS4, and the iPad Air wins hands down. To be fair, the other two are dedicated gaming machines and that’s what I use them as. The Wii has become my favorite classic game “arcade machine” and the PS4 is slowly taking the reigns as go to console from my PS3. iPad Air is my do everything piece of technology. For anyone who has a tablet or smart phone, you know you use it for everything from texting to light online surfing, but what gets the nod from me is that I enjoy the all the games the iTunes Store has. There are quite a few games on there that are tons of fun and are free. There are a handful of console ports like the GTA games, NBA Jam, Ridge Racer and games made for the tablet like Contest of Champions, Temple Run, and Riptide GP that takes full advantage of the tablet’s gyroscope, and touch screen. I don’t always use my consoles or handhelds but it is guaranteed that I am on the iPad everyday and at some point in that day I am checking on any of my multiplayer games.
With that there is one category left. Yes the one that is usually shoehorned into the last 10 minutes of a broadcast that usually goes 10-15 minutes over and that is Game of the Year
And the winner of Favorite Game of 2014 is….
Again how could I not pick this game? It was a close race between Borderlands 2 and Saints Row IV. Both games are really high on my list and I thought about having a tie but tie’s are lazy and nobody likes them so it came down to one thing: Which game surprised me the most. My luck with dizzy spells and not expecting the type of content in Borderlands 2 was the deciding factor. Bonus points were factored in because there was so much content on a handheld.
So there you have it Pixlbit, my picks for 2014 as favorite games. What do you think? Any games I should try in 2015? Let me know.
That’s all for now, more later!
