This took place in Mechwarrior Online. A game I play almost everyday. Im that big of a fan of the Battletech/ Mechwarrior universe.
It was about a year ago, i was on the map Forest Colony. The battle had already started and i was about 70% health. I thought if i could flank them, my team mates would see their attention shift towards me and push them. I was taking the cave on the outside edge of the map. Back then most players never took the cave. I got to "The Arch", a rock formation on the map. I had reached the "centre" of it when suddenly an ATLAS appeared in front of me. Now at this time, if you know about final fantasy 7's final boss music "One Winged Angel", or any epic rock music, then that song would be playing right now. My first thought was "HOLY ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". It was undamaged and twice my weight. It also had twice the firepower than me. I could not run away. I had NO help. This was my "FINAL BOSS BATTLE". He had offensive power and defensive strength beyond what i had. What i had was speed and maneuverability.
He was moving to my left so i went to my right, keeping my left arm to him. This is a standard tactic with the Centurion, since the left arm is the shield arm.. It has won many a battle. I fired my 2 large lasers in my right arm together at his right torso. That is where an Atlas' main gun is. Take it out, and its only 75% dangerous. After that, i started to do the "Circle Of Death" maneuver. Running circles around the target. As i get to his back, i fire my 2 medium lasers in my centre torso, then my srm's (short range missiles). As i move into his field of view, I turn my upper torso to have my left arm toward him. BANG!!! His main gun hits me in the left arm. I start chain firing my weapons (firing one after the other), trying to focus on his right torso. As i go around him again, I stop firing to cool down. I start using my medium lasers while I cool down.
Then, as if our minds were communicating to each other, we both do an "Alpha Strike". An attack with all of our weapons at once. We both hit each other, and we both overheat. I'm like--- "OH****OH****OH****OH****OH****OH****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Somehow i managed to power up first. I started to go around him again. I fire my large lasers at his right torso. He turned to face me, but i changed my direction to go in the opposite direction. I go wide in this circle, both good and bad. I'm getting hit just as much as I'm hitting him. We both over heat again.
I thought i would power up first, but i didn't. He got up first!!!!! When i powered up, i went in close to make it easier to target his centre and right torso.
By now you would think our team mates would come to our rescue, but no. They were still fighting each other in the usual places. Not caring that a David versus Goliath battle was happening at the "Arch". I kept running around, then changing direction while fighting the Atlas. Hoping that i can take out at least most of his weapons. Making it easier for my team to kill him. Neither of us were paying attention to the time, or how many of our team mates were left.
WE kept running, and turning, and firing at each other. We never left "The Arch" during this battle. We overheated 2 more times before luck came to my rescue. After the second overheating, i noticed his right torso was almost gone! But i had to cool down all the way before i could fire. I started to take braking shots. Firing one weapon then doing nothing, at other parts of his mech. I ran out of srm ammo during this time. My only heat friendly weapons!!!
Then, when my heat was all the way down, i went wide. I was going for an all or nothing attack on him. Charging at full speed. Using my left arm as my shield, i charged. Within seconds, my arm was gone, but i kept going. A second later, i was in hugging distance. I turned to face him, the we BOTH fired.
At first i thought i had lost. But i had only lost my left torso. As i realized this, the Atlas fell toward me. I looked at the time counter in the upper middle of the screen. It had taken most of the match for me to kill just ONE ATLAS!!!! I had no strength in me to get back into the fight. My hands and eyes were hurting. Minutes later the match ends. My team won. Somehow, I had BEATEN AN ATLAS on my own. Its 100 tons, I'm 50 tons, and i was near death. One good hit and i would be dead.
And that is my story. I really wish someone could turn this into an actual video. It would showcase how some of the battles in mechwarrior online can end up being. If anyone who reads this knows anyone who is good at animation. The Centurion is a favorite for those who like a mech that can help hone ones skills. It is also known for being the last mech to fall. Just like the Atlas.
