Echo Night - An Unsung Horror Game From the PSX Library

Yesterday I received notice from Amazon that someone had purchased my copy of Echo Night. It was a game I picked up used from Blockbuster way back when.

Echo Night is a horror adventure/murder mystery game with no real combat to speak of. You spend most of the game sorting out the unfinished business of ghosts aboard a ship that disappeared.

You can be killed mainly by being scared to death by apparitions but like all good malevolent specters turning on the lights scares them away

The game had plenty of puzzles to solve and some of them were pretty off the wall. Fixing a drink for an alcoholic ghost, what's not to love?

While the graphics wouldn't win any awards even for a game from 1999 and the voice acting was, well, dead, the game had a suitably creepy atmosphere that I loved.

It was followed up on PS2 by Echo Night: Beyond which was set on a space ship. I got killed a lot more in that one.  :D

This is a game I enjoyed playing in all it's blocky, muddy glory and now sadly we are parting ways in exchange for $40. :(

I love PSX games.  The best console ever, dammit.  There's so many weird games I've never heard of that look so interesting.  I wish more were available digitally.

Looks like a very interesting game. Another thing it's that the this was an early game of From Software, the creators of Dark Souls.

I wasn't interested in this until you said it features ghosts.  Ghosts are cool.  Look like this was made by From Software.  They also do the Armored Core games and they made a fun PS3 title called 3-D Dot Game Heroes.

I bought 3D Dot a while back, I haven't quite managed to get to it yet. Played a bit though, it's sort of like Zelda

It's EXACTLY like Zelda!  I'm surprised Nintendo didn't sue!

"The door is locked from the inside." Boy I saw a lot of that in Silent Hill. Echo Night looks pretty cool.

I think it's something you'd like.

I've never heard of this game but it sounds pretty cool. Always interesting when a game forgoes combat entirely. And the sequel is set on a space ship? Sweet.

Echo Night...now that's a game I haven't heard of in years. I recall seeing it in fly-by-night game magazine that breifly reviewed it.  I remember them saying that it was pretty darn creepy.  I vaugely remember the PS2 sequel.

Thanks for sharing the goods.

Wow! that's a neat find. My condolences that you had to let it pass. I'll look for this game for a possible add to this year's Octoberween gaming list!
