December 2014 Recap

First of all, Happy New Year! But let's talk about last year. December was a super busy month. Between December 1 and Christmas Day, I worked about 200 hours...which is really pretty crazy. Nice paychecks though Tongue Out So I didn't do a lot of gaming, though I did finish one thing...

Games Beaten

-Mass Effect 3 (360)

Mass Effect 3 is fantastic. It's a great continuation and culmination of the story and choices from the two previous games. The gameplay is even more streamlined; everything serves a purpose. The graphics and audio are topnotch but the story is the star of the show and it delivers. But the ending...it didn't give me the options I'd hoped for. It went for a grander, more far-reaching conclusion than I wanted (trying to avoid spoilers). It by no means ruins the game. I still had a blast.

Games Bought

December started as a quiet month on the purchasing front. My wife got Pac-Man Party (Wii) because she loves Mario Party and this knockoff is supposed to be pretty good. I'm more excited about the included arcade versions of Pac-Man, DigDug (which I've never played), and Galaga. Later she bought Dead Space 3 (360) from GameFly for a couple bucks as well as Bravely Default (DS). Then my birthday and Christmas hit and so did a few more games, most notably Metro Redux for the PS4 (still need the system, of course). My wife also got me Geist for the GameCube, which has its problems but I always wanted to try it...and now I can! She was given Pokémon Omega Ruby (3DS). Then with Christmas money I picked up a copy of Final Fantasy III for the DS (I now have all the "classic" FF games in one form or another), FF: Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Wii) (it was $5), Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition (360), and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U! That last one excites me the most Laughing

Metro Redux

Let's not forget the PS+ games and there was some good stuff here for sure. But first let's get the whatever games out of the way: Secret Ponchos (PS4), Titans Attack! (PS3/PS4/Vita), and Final Horizon (Vita). I got another fighter added to the old backlog with Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition (PS4). I was excited to see Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut (PS3) on the list because I've been thinking of buying that for a while now. Yay, procrastination! Finally, there's Hitman Trilogy HD (PS3). That alone is a lot of bang for my buck! Not a bad month at all.

Now Playing

-Super Smash Bros. (Wii U)

Of course! I'm going to be playing this for a long time Laughing

-Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP)

I've made a lot of progress in getting my elemental swords up to snuff. I just need more money to actually craft them!

-LEGO Marvel Superheroes (Wii U)

We haven't played this game in a couple weeks—I don't know if we ever played it in December, actually—but we're still "playing" it. We tend to get through games like this in spurts. We just need to start it up again.

Check back tomorrow for my recap of the year and the Golden Hippo Awards!

Happy New Year Man!

I've got a Wii U now, so it'll be sooner or later that i'm going to get the new Smash Bros.

I like the Wii U a lot and the new Smash Bros. is just another great reason to own the system.

I loved ME3 and I loved the grandiose ending....  but I grew up with sci fi books that ended in that sort of way, and was used to those kind of things... even kind of love them.  Overall though it's a great game, and I'm about halfway through a second playthrough, in ME2 now.

I don't begrudge ME3 its ending like so many people do. I was just hoping for something a little more personal for Shepard.

I really really hope that EA eventually releases a complete Mass Effect trilogy with all the DLC. I'd love to play through the three games again with all that side stuff but there's no way I'm paying for all that.

No, Pac-Man Party isn't good at all.

Back in the PS2 and GameCube days, Namco released a Mario Party style game called Pac-Man Fever that was much better, but it still wasn't that great.

it seems your always the late one to try out my past Octoberween Game titles from yesteryears. Deadly Premonitions; DC is fantastic and Geist could've been so much more. It could've been the FEAR series on the GC!

I still need to get ME3 since I bought 2 recently. I'm still working my way thru the first game.

It seems I'm late to most parties in general lol and I have a lot of Octoberween parties ahead of me Wink Glad you're giving Mass Effect a shot. How is that first game going for you?
