I had a conversdation with a coworker of mine yesterday about my old gaming systems. She was in disbelief that I had over 50 systems currently in my possession. When she asked how or why that could possibly be a thing, an old video of mine instantly came to mind. Here is the first and only part of a mini series I had planned in 2008 called, "My Nostalgia." It never progressed past this installment, but it does a great job of explaining where my gaming habits came from, despite some evolutions since then (shmups, wut.) Enjoy.

I'm currently working on CHCHD "three". I hope to have it done sometime soon, so stay tuned! Also, Bullet Heaven 66. It should be done tomorrow!

I hear you. Part of the reason I have such a huge pile of unfinished and unplayed games is because I got such a late start. And now I don't feel so bad about the number of obsolete gaming systems I own, lol.

Old systems obsolete? Hell no. Just aged, seasoned and soaked in chronologial marinade.

Obselecence only applies to stuff that is no longer truly useful. Sure, computers and other pieces of technology like dot matrix printers and film-based cameras can go obsolete. I can't make videos on an old Apple II or use mu Advantix Fuji camera for example. But if you can play a game as it was originally intended, on its original hardware, it sort of makes it obselecence-proof, doesn't it?

Your collection puts mine to shame. lol I liked the video, and I agree. The more games I accumulated throughout the years, the less invested I became in them emotionally. I guess that's why I'm not as active on collecting anymore. I still have some work to do on my collection of past games as it is. Besides, the older ones just feel better to me.

I'm not exactly proud of my collection. It really got out of hand a few years ago.

And yeah, I'm not big on current gaming. I guess it's a good thing I'm getting good with my Japanese; I have 30 years of imports to play when the games of today become totally repulsive to my hopelessly outdated self....

Great video man. I have a lot of attachment to my NES and SNES games. That's what I grew up with. Some ps1 stuff as well, but your right. I had started buying a lot of newer games when I got older and could afford it. They don't really mean anything to me though. I think the ones that do mean something are the few that I poured a LOT of time into, or impacted me emotionally in some kind of way.

There are a ciouple of games that have broken the emotional attachment barrier despite being newer; Breath of Fire: Dragon Quater was one, when we actually had really close ties with some of our friends (something that seems to have stopped, sadly) and most recently, Cave Story 3D, where I started playing it the Xmas my daughter cam e to stay with us in 2011.

I've been longing to play NES games lately. May be able to do some soon. I saw this console that plays them and SNES games too. Also Genesis titles. Has 3 slots on the top for them. If the cartridges actually work in it that could really cool.

I always enjoy learning about what got people into gaming in teh early years. The Game Boy got me through some hard times. And I think the Super NES has some of the most memorable games ever.

But for me, it's more memories attached to what was going on when I played these games. Certain games bring back terrible memories, des[pite being "great". Twinbee, for example.
