I bought Persona Q on Friday

I shouldn't have but I couldn't help myself.

I was in EBgames talking to my friend Jay who also happens to be the star of an upcoming movie that sees him going across North America attempting to collect every NES game ever made. It comes out in October and no he won't tell me anything about it including whether he achieved his goal.

Update: Link to the original kickstarter page with info about the quest

Anyway I asked him if he had any copies of Persona Q. There were none on the shelf and as far as I can tell the big box stores here have never had it in stock.

As it turns out he had a couple of the regular copies with the tarot cards for 50 and even two copies of the preorder only LE that customers had failed to pick up. It was 90 bucks though, a little rich for my blood, so I took a deep breath and said "gimme the 50 dollar one."

I am on the second floor of the first dungeon right now and I love it. It's like Etrian Odyssey with a Persona story and lore. I played about 5 hours today and it's going to suck me back in to playing my 3DS with the tiny screen once again. I don't want to but I am left no choice.

Speaking of 3DS, I hope that my friends who got the codes for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate are having fun with the game.

I'm up to 10 hours in Suikoden 2 now. Played about half of that today then decided I'd done far too much gaming for one day.

How's your weekend going Pixlbitallion?

Let us know when Jay's movie comes out! Does Silent Bob end up running off with the last NES game he needed? Will Dennis the Menace get ME in trouble with Mr. Wilson? What other fictional characters can I put in this conversation based on real peoples' names?

Ya got me Joseph. I'm still trying to figure out where you pulled Dennis the Menace from but then again maybe it's better not to ask. :P

My real name is also the name of Dennis's friend in the cartoon. Maybe that wasn't in the original newspaper strips? I remember the girl who didn't like Dennis showing up more often in those.

I'd watch that movie. There's this guy I've been following on YouTube that is going for a complete NES set. He's getting up there, but there are a few super rare and insanely expensive NES games out there. Like Little Samson. Money Mouth

I've never actually finished any Persona games lol. I hope you enjoy it.

I'll keep you posted regarding the release date because I know you will enjoy it.

Here's a link to the original Kickstarter that tells all about it. I'll update the blog with it.

It just occured to me that there's over 700 NES games. 30 days?!?! Damn. I wish him luck. Thanks for the info. I'll be on the lookout for this movie for sure. Maybe Mothman will make a cameo. Cool

I'm working on persona 4, it's eating up my time which when the new 3ds comes out, monster Hunter 4 and majoras mask will probably replace that for a bit and then I'll go back to persona at some point to finish it. I'm actually trying to finish it before that but I kind of doubt I will.

I'm kicking myself for not picking up Persona Q, but I'll get it eventually.I'll probably get some time to dig into the Monter Hunter demo tomorrow. I downloaded it last night. Thanks!

Persona Q seems cool, but I've never finished a Persona game and would be lost in the lore.  Hope you have fun with it, man!

I really need to check out the Persona games one of these days. I had Persona 3 FES, but it disappeared along with about 18 of my other games before I moved. I suspect a former house guest with a drug problem may have helped himself.

Persona 3 is good. FES adds an epilogue and 4 expands and improves on the formula. Persona 3 Portable has a choice of femal protaganist but all the animation outside of dungeons has been removed in favour of static screens and a pointer. Irritated the piss out of me.

The first and second Personas have very little to do with 3 and 4 except for high school kids and can be very frustrating with random battles every few seconds.

But I don't mind the static images and the pointer....

I picked up Persona Q when it came out and I still hadn't played it.  I'm trying to finish Dragon Quest IV (DS) first.  I wonder how many copies of the $90 version of the game is out there.  I thought about getting it for a minute and then came to my senses.  That's 90 freaking dollars for a 3DS game!  You don't get a lot for it either. Laughing

I'm interested in the gameplay of Persona Q, but have never played a Persona game. I do have Persona 3 and 4 on PS2 though, just have to find the time. Unfortunately, I could say that about a lot of games!

Definitely a cross between Etrian Odyssey and Persona 3/4. You get the first person dungeon crawling, map drawing, FOEs and random encounters of EO with the characters, demon compendium, fusions, music and high school theme of Persona.

Battles are turn based and exploiting enemy weaknesses results in bonuses. Each character has a main fixed Persona and an interchangeable sub Persona that gives the character extra magic and physical capabilities. Taking the right sub Personas into battle can mean the difference between winning your battles and getting wiped.

Throughout the games you fuse Personas to make more powerful ones.

Playing 3 and 4 is definitely a benefit because you get to start with the cast from either game and a lot of what the characters say relates back to original stories.

For instance the P4 cast I'm playing with talk about going into the TV to save people. There are lots of inside conversations that unless you've played P4 you're likely to be thinking WTF!

Congrats on getting Persona Q! I'm fairly deep in the game myself, think I'm close to the end, but I'm not sure. Very fun game.
