This will be the first blog in 2015 about games I’ve reviewed lately over at GamerDad.com. Please click on as many links as you can to read the reviews and maybe even post a comment or two. I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
G.P. the GamerPuppet Unboxes the Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix Collector’s Edition!
I bet I’m going to make a lot of people jealous with this post. For Christmas I got the KH 2.5 Remix Collector’s Edition. I think you could only get it through Square-Enix’s web site, so this was a planned out gift, believe me. Anyway, click on the link if you want to see all the goodies that came with it!
Hola! Amiibos! (Wave 2)
I got all the Wave 2 Amiibos, and just now got a chance to write about them. It took a little longer to get all of these because Nintendo was releasing them sporadically and not all at once like Wave 1. It was easy to get all the Amiibos in Wave 1 and 2 because I just reserved them all at GameStop. But I’m worried about the exclusives for Wave 3 (Rosalina at Target, Lucario at Toys R Us, and MetaKnight at Best Buy). Since I’ve been blind in my left eye since birth and can’t drive, it’ll be more difficult for me to get those. So keep your fingers crossed for me!
Super Mario 2015 Calendar
Every year for Christmas I get a new wall calendar to hang up at work. Last year I got a Zelda calendar. This year’s Zelda calendar looked exactly the same, so I went with the Mario calendar instead. It had better art than last year’s Mario calendar. They had a Pac-Man calendar I could get, but it was based on the awful Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures cartoon, so I passed on that. I wish they’d make a Kirby calendar. What kind of video game related calendar would YOU like to see? Tell me in the comments section!
FitStar Yoga (iPad)
I like reviewing fitness games, especially at this time of year. This one is a bunch of videos you can watch and follow along with that show you different Yoga poses and such. I have a hard time with Yoga because I have balancing issues. Being blind in my left eye since birth messes with my equilibrium sometimes. It’s why I’ve never learned how to ride a bike. Anyway, if you have an iPad or iPhone and you’re interested, you can use this code to get a free Premium week of FitStar. I’m not sure how it works, though. Anyway, here’s the code: J6XQ1G. The lady in the video needs to eat a sandwich, though.
Pokemon Art Academy (3DS)
Rarely do I review a game that I bought myself. But I wanted to review this one for two reasons. One, it would be posted around Christmastime and I wanted a happy game that really reflected what the GamerDad site is all about. The other reason is because I wanted to dedicate the review to my grandmother who passed away a year and a half ago. She was an artist and won awards for her paintings and even did the mural at her church. Later on she even taught art classes to kids. I would’ve loved to have shown her the Art Academy games when she was alive, but she probably wouldn’t like it on the small screen. Sometime, Nintendo was supposed to make a Wii U Art Academy game, so hopefully she can watch me play it while she’s in Heaven. If the game ever comes out. I don’t know if she would be interested in drawing Pokemon, but if she had a student who wanted to, I bet she would certainly help him or her do it! The game teaches a lot of cartooning and drawing skills for younger players. I should know, I took a real life cartooning class as a kid from a former Disney animator who helped create Chip N Dale, among other things. I just didn’t want people to forget about this game, what with all the other Pokemon games around lately.
Spoiler Alert (iPad)
I’ve been getting pretty tired of continuously running platformers, but this is one of the more creative ones and held my interest all the way to the end, so it’s certainly one of the better ones out there. You play as a chili pepper knight and must get Princess Tomato, but you start the game at the last boss and defeat it. When you get the princess, the game starts playing in reverse and you must un-stomp every enemy and un-collect every coin you got. The surprise ending, er…I mean, beginning, is pretty funny, too. It kind of reminds me of a PS3 downloadable game I reviewed a couple of years ago called Retro/Grade. It was a space shooter that you played backward, but it was actually a cleverly disguised music game.
Reader Review: Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit! (Vita)
My friend reviewed this because I don’t have a Vita. The Senran Kagura games feature well-endowed ninja girls fighting, but in this game, you cook food with the girls via a music rhythm game. Sounds pretty weird!
Fairy Fencer F (PS3)
This plays a lot like Compile Heart’s other RPGs like Mugen Souls and Hyperdimension Neptunia. While this one is a little better than the others, these RPGs just don’t hold my interest very long.
ShakePop (iPad)
This game turns your iPhone or iPad into a game of Simon or Bop-It. It’ll tell you to tap the screen or flip or shake the phone. It’s all right, but I’d be afraid that I’d drop the phone while playing! The robot female British voice sounds a bit suggestive sometimes, too.
Guilty Gear XRD –SIGN-- (PS3)
I just recently wrote a blog about my favorite Guilty Gear characters and posted a link to this review, so I won’t talk about it much here. But here’s a link anyway in case you missed it. The game looks great, but is pretty hard.
Conclusions
And that’s all for now! Thanks for reading and commenting on my reviews and blogs! In about two weeks I’ll be going to PAX South, so I may write a blog about that when I get back, depending on how good it is (please pray that I have a safe trip there and back). I might need your help after that, though. I’m running low on blog ideas. If there is anything that you’d like to see me write about, please let me know! Thanks! --Cary
