Good morning, Pixlbit Nation! How is everyone this lovely Thursday? I am fantastic, after being so poor I couldn't afford coffee for the last two weeks, my first unemployment check came in yesterday and I went food shopping. My larder is no longer bare, and I am once again caffeinated. Life is good.
I also went to visit my friends with the farm yesterday. They're down to four cows, five pigs, seven or eight guinea fowl, and the egg-laying chickens. One of the young bulls will be leaving, whether they sell him or he goes to the butcher is still up in the air. The other will hopefully be their stud bull when he's a little older. The pigs consist of three sows, one is going to live elsewhere, and two boars, one is the current stud boar and the other is the future stud boar. Henry is the name of the young boar and he's very sweet. Scratch his back and he leans right in, making happy grunts and smiling. The only problem is that he probably weighs more than I do at the moment and the leaning part was a bit problematic. I was gifted with a small pork roast, and I'm going to buy a crock pot and find a good recipe early next week.
My running came to a stand-still about two weeks ago. I'm starting again today, but the snowshoe race is Sunday and I'm really not ready for it, but I'll give it my best shot. I figure it doesn't really matter where I finish, as long as I finish, and I can walk 3.5 miles easy if I have to. I'm psyched as well as being nervous. I'm also signing up for the other two races in the series, if you do all three, you get the Badass achievement. No, seriously. That's the official designation by the running club for anyone who does all three races in the season.
Last night, Jason and I went to an AHL hockey game. It was the first non-collegiate hockey game I've ever gone to. Not all that impressive. I swear those kids on the UMaine hockey team 20 years ago had better skills on the ice then the Portland Pirates did last night. They blew a 2-0 lead in the third period and lost 3-2 to the Worcester Sharks. We only went because Jason won the tickets at trivia last week. I had fun, don't get me wrong, but I certainly wouldn't pay $17 to go again. I have to admit that I was more interested in the Zambonis that I was the actual game, lol.
And here's what I've been reading/watching/playing/listening to for the last week:
Playing: Still playing Lost Odyssey. I'm on disc three, heading for the Ice Canyon. I'm cruising through using the strategy guide, I already finished the game once, so now I'm really just playing for the story and the few achievements I missed the first time. jgusw has been challenged to play Lost Odyssey before he plays through another Mass Effect game as long as I play Mass Effect next. So guess what I'm playing next?
Reading: Still rereading old favorites rediscovered from the boxes at my grandmother's. Read three Louis L'Amour westerns over the past couple of days - the Kilkenny Trilogy - The Rider of Lost Creek, The Mountain Valley War, and Kilkenny. I like Louis L'Amour books. Formulaic as hell, but good, fun, quick reads. I also read Unknown Regions by Robert Holdstock. It's a fantasy set in modern Britain. Not very good, I bought it because I loved his first book, but none of his books after that really measure up to Mythago Wood. I tried reading The Ice Limit by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, but gave up about a third of the way in because it was kinda boring and I just didn't like any of the characters enough to care what happened to them.
Watching: Now that I have internet again, I started watching season 2 of Crossing Lines on Netflix. I'm pacing myself with the streaming, because I'm sharing my neighbor's internet and we have a download cap. Still working my way through my second watching of season 1 of Agents of Shield, too. Jason and I watched Napoleon Dynamite again the other night. Still just as funny as the first time I saw it. I need to catch up on my weekly shows soon before the episodes I haven't seen disappear, too. I'm really bummed that Constantine didn't get picked up after the initial 13 episodes. The network hasn't officially announced that yet, but my friend's daughter worked on the show and her parents told me.
Listening: Again, not much in the last week. Bruce Molsky's Lost Boy is in my CD player in the car and I've been too lazy to change the disc, lol.
Well, I'm off to do something constructive with my day. Wish me luck for this weekend!
