It does have a good concept even if it's really based on Super Mario Galaxy. Shame the product didn't turn out well enough.
Speaking of changing perspectives, this also reminds me a bit of Fez.

The year is 2010. Gamers had 2 fantastic gravity defying platforming titles in Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. Keep in mind now that Flip's Twisted World...even if it had come out before these games, still would have been just as bad as it is. So prepare for a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down. And I'd like to take a minute Just sit right there...I'll tell you how I played a game called Flip's Twisted World.
PLOT:
The story of the game, follows the tale of a wizard's apprentice named Flip, who gets sucked into a distorted universe inside of a forbidden magic book. Flip, with the assistance of his cube companion Pivot, has to make his way through multiple worlds inside this universe and defeat a boss in each world to gain a Chapter Stone. Using the power of the Chapter Stones, Flip must defeat the evil, destructive mage Axel to save the universe and return home
pictured...gameplay not as interesting as it appears
Flip's Twisted World is interesting in terms of gameplay mechanics and control. You see you're able to use the wii remote to rotate the world, creating new pathways and solving puzzles. Essentially you should be able to walk along walls and ceilings with relative ease. Unfortunately, the mechanics don't translate towards the terrible controls that are incredibly lacking.
And I mean it feels rough. First off you need to be standing perfectly still while holding the B button and the turn your remote or utilize the nunchuk to plant Flip at his next 90 degree angle. This wouldn't be so bad if you weren't constantly falling to your death into voids or god forbid the wii remote and nunchuk register your movement wrong and switch directions on you, hurtling to your utter doom...which is bad because while falling into voids will restart you at your last check point, dying totally disregards that and forces you to start from the beginning of the level.
Snails...a bane of your existance
Speaking of mechanics gone wrong...the combat. As you try and hit enemies, you'll almost always get hit first. You'll unlock a variety of spells, powers, and weapons for your journey and throw your controller trying to execute them. Graphics are pretty budget and the game looks suspect in terms of design. Again you have to make the comparison to Galaxy...which did just about everything this game fails to do better.
Oh and this game is a bug ridden, glitch filled extravaganza. When I can get the games controls to work (which is often a 50/50 chance) I'll find myself stuck in a ceiling...or a wall...or perhaps the entire world will just completely spazz out and I'll be fighting the game.
Let's take for instance the Castle World. It's one of the first worlds you'll venture and it'll give you context to how bad this game is. Oh and also it features an escort mission. It's the only escort mission in the game and it's horrible. I mean it's dreadful. Fighting is bad enough due to clunky controls and collision, but throw in an escort mission on top and you'll want to throw your remote at the TV.
And if you are noticing a problem, it's this...The polish isn't there. It's not executed well at all. And it's very disappointing because this game had a lot of potential had it been executed well. Instead, poor controls, poor graphics, bugs and glitches, and poor gameplay all add up to a twisted mess of a world that poor Flip had to venture into.
It may look interesting, but trust me it's not
The highlight however is the music from famed video game music composer Tommy Tallarico. It's perfectly decent and at times whimsical. Poor Tommy's talents are wasted on this game. Mario took the concept of gravity defying gameplay and made it work...twice. And this isn't the only time a developer has tried to copy his shtick and fail to execute. I recall a similar feeling I had with SPRay...a poor man's Super Mario Sunshine rip-off.
Verdict: 3/10- There's an interesting mechanic buried somewhere in all the mess, but it's clear lack of execution prevents any enjoyment aside from the whimsical music and story.
So it's pretty clear that Nintendo has done something right with a concept that a third party failed to do. It's not like they would release a game that bad right?
I hate being wrong...
