Game Purchases of 2014

I'm later than usual with this blog. I couldn't find a decent camera to take pictures. Oh well, it's better late than never. I did good in 2014. I didn't buy a lot of games. Got too many digital games though. There were some decent sales this year.

Physical Games:

I picked up more than a few fighting games this year. They finally dropped down to prices I was willing to pay with all the characters included. I think? Sadly, I didn't play any of them much. They are a lot of fun. I started Sleeping Dogs, but I quit to focus on some other games. Did the same thing with South Park too. I plan to play through them this year. I get the Ninja Storm games every year. This year's game is said to be the last. I hadn't played GTA5 or Max Payne yet. I'll probably get to them this year too.

I got a Kinect last year because it was real cheap. My kids and I have fun with it. I got the Killer is Dead collector's edition. It was only $20. Dishonored and Pirates aren't even opened yet. I played a good bit of Sonic Racing. It's fun. I thought I would hate the drifting, but I got use to it.

I got Tekken Hybrid real cheap. I was so excited about Arcana Hearts 3 and it's still not open. Hopefully I can get to Skyrim this year. I got Kung Fu Rider almost for nothing. Maybe I can find a PS move real cheap too. I got that Madden for free. The last Madden I played was years ago. It was '03 I think? And that was probably back in '06.

I'm Playing Persona Q. I bought Babysitting Mama just to have it. My wife thinks the baby is creepy. I tried playing Code Princess and didn't like it. Still hadn't played Conception 2. Really enjoyed Devil Survivor. Got Mad Dog because I remember seeing it in old gaming mags. It looked fun. I still hadn't played it. It pass it up at the cheap price I found it.

I got another Fire Emblem game. I enjoyed the 3DS game so much I wanted to experience another game in the series. The other games I just bought because they were a penny at GameStop. My kids played with them a bit. Some of them are cool.

Digital Games:

I bought way too many digital games. Almost all of them were on sale 50% or more. Still, I would like to cut down on buying them. Maybe focus on more games that I can only get digitally or are too expensive to purchase the physical copies.

PSN Games:

Strider

Chaos Code

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams

Suikoden - I always wanted this game. I want to get the 2nd game too.

Okami HD - I have it on the PS2. This version is suppose to look better and it was on sale.

Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut Ultimate Edition - I've been told this is the version to get.

Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition - I remember when this game released on the DC. I wanted it back then. I'm glad it got a PS3 release.

Elevator Action Deluxe - This game was the first demo I downloaded on my PS3 over two years ago. The demo stayed there the whole time until the price dropped to my liking.

SMT: Devil Summoner 1 & 2 - Played the 2nd game to the end on the PS2 and never played the 1st game. My plan is to play through both of them.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddsyee HD

Final Fight: Double Impact - Play this a lot with my 5 yr old son. Didn't play much of the other game. Magic Sword I think it is.

Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara - My kids loved this game.

Lara Croft: Guardians of Light

BloodRayne: Betrayal

Sonic Generations - It's okay.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes - One of my favorite Lego games.

Nights into Dreams - I still don't like this game.

Motocross Madness - This game is fun. It was a good time with my kids.

Mirror's Edge - I played it a little. I make me a bit sick.

Mafia II

Shank 2

Well, that's most of it. I did buy a couple digital games on the Wii and 3DS, but this blog is already too long. I also pick up a few games off GOG.com too. I'm thinking about doing another collection blog. One that's more console specific. Maybe the XB. Need to find a decent camera first.

I buy big plastic totes to put many games in. I also use big boxes. For the games I know I want to play soon, I take them out and put them on a shelf.

Did you play Retro City Rampage yet? I loved that game. It's got a TON of references to just about everything. I buy a lot of digital games off Steam. I've been trying to focus on more physical stuff lately... but those damn sales!

Digital sales are hard to ignore. It's worse for PC. PC digital sales are crazy. My PC is trash for playing games and I still want to buy those digital games on sale.

I'm still on my New Years resolution to finish what games I start, so I have only bought Majora's Mask.

I have Transistor, Darksiders and Beyond Good and Evil to go (well, and Persona 4 but I've been putting that off for about a year).

I may need o collect DS games now, My GBA game collection is rather nice but My DS collection is a little small.

My GBA collection is small. My DS collection passed it long ago. I think my 3DS collection is about to pass my GBA collection too.

That is a lot of good stuff. Props on finding games on the cheap, and how cool is that to buy the Gamecube games for a penny each. I regret not buying the Tekken and Killer is Dead collector's editions. That baby is a bit creepy but I would have bought it too. Good stuff man!

Sometimes the collector's edition don't sale that well and GS just holds on to them. I watched Tekken drop to $11. I had to buy it then. I really lucked out with Killer is Dead. I walk into GS and my friend tells me she's hiding Killer is Dead ED behind the counter for her favorite customers, which are mainly game collectors. I knew very little about the game. I take a look at it, she tells me what it's about, and I add it to the games I bought that day.

The local GameStop had those placed in the middle of the store and they just continued to drop in price and never moved. I had a good number of chances to buy them but never did. Oh well hopefully whoever bought them would enjoy them more than I would.

Why do I get the feeling that physical games are already a thing of the past? I'm really scared what will happen to my interest in this hobby if this move to digital downloads completely eliminates discs.

It scares me too. Some digital games I own, I still want to get the physical copies. If physical games start to faze out, then I think I'm going to be even more selective about the digital games I buy. I know I'll buy less. And, I have a feeling, when digital is all we have, then there won't be as many sales as we're seeing now on consoles. As many digital sales on consoles as they are, there are still so many games, that released years ago, over $40. Every digital game I bought was $10 or less. Most of them were less.

Well, I think games will be cheaper as downloads, at least after a game's initial release. But I might not care anymore by then. Music going digital really killed my interest in buying albums. It must be the caveman in me that want's a physical product to buy.

My other issue is what about the longevity of digital games. What if a provider decides not to support the older digital games you have. You're stuck. Also, I don't have any special feeling for a digital collection. It's just text on a screen. I like my piles of games in my closet.

Totally agree. It's the reason why I try to keep to games I can only get digitally. If I could get any of these games in a physical form real cheap, I'll do it. Mirror's Edge, Lego Lord of the Rings, and Lego Marvel Super Heroes, are games I plan to get the physical versions. I only bought them digitally because my kids always wanted to play them and they were only $5. If they go away, I only spent $5. Those old games aren't going to stay there forever. Digital is not owning, it's more like paying to borrow.
