While I'm glad to see that comics are being well represented all over the place like on TV and in Film, I'm kind of depressed that there isn't much interesting Sci-Fi out there with the same amount of attention that books and comics properties have been getting. I have to seek out Sci-Fi shows on streaming services,to watch shows like Star Trek, Star Gate and Battlestar and I couldnt help but notice how even the most action oriented shows like Stargate had at least some amount of pseudo-science jargon in it, while newer entries like Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Trek films seem to be really dumbed down. I should say that some Sci-Fi can be fun and dumb, but I'm used to the nerdy mumbo jumbo stuff which I feel is very absent from media now. So I've been reading science fiction  and rewatching old episodes of Star Trek and such, but I really feel like I'm on a deserted island without any real brain food available.

Can anyone explain Stargate to me? I never got as into it as other things like Farscape or Star Trek and there are several spins offs and tons of episodes it seems.

Then there is also gaming, but I said this isn't a gaming blog.

Community Question?
Are you enjoying any new Sci-Fi shows at the moment or is there one show in particular you keep revisiting?

Aside from Star Trek reruns, I was watching Defiance recently and Orphan Black, but Orphan Black has more to do with clones than outer space. I also watched Dominion, but it's about Angels and the Apocolypse or whatever. I started watching some Ghost In the Shell Anime again as well.

i read all six dune books.  the last three are the best, with the fourth being one of the most fucked up books I have ever read.  A lot of people don't like it though.

i think the thing is sci fi is costly to produce for tv and movies, so they tend to be dumbed down, or action heavy.  It would be great to get a killer HBO sci fi show though.

I get the cost part, but there were just so many a few years ago and now there are none. I think Voyager, Deep Space 9, Farscape, Stargate and Battlestar were all on TV very close to eachother. Defiance is more of a drama, and Doctor Who is fun, but I miss space.

Only Sci-Fi show I really enjoyed was Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I love science fiction as well, and am also dissapointed that there really aren't any quality outer-space science fiction shows on at the moment.

I kind of liked the mini-series Ascension, which they talked about maybe making into a regular show.  I've also been watching Defiance and think it's okay, but am really only watching it due to the lack of anything better.  I have been liking the 12 Monkeys show, although not as much as I hoped I would.  I did see they are making a tv version of Philip K Dick's The Man in the High Castle, which could potentially be good.

It's been a long time since I watched Stargate, but the basic premise as far as I remember was that the military finds a stargate (portal) that can transport people to other planets that also have stargates.  The military forms teams that explores these other worlds.  It is discovered that there are some bad-guy parasitic alien race that have been controlling other civilations for a really long time, including ancient earth cultures like Egypt, where the people also worshipped the aliens as gods.  Alot of the series is the military team vs these aliens.

I love the Dune books. I have read the whole series multiple times, in addition to having made the mistake of reading the sequels that were co-written by Frank Herbert's son.

I think I was put off by stargate because there are so many episodes. Universe is the shortest, then Atlantis but SG1 has tons of episodes making it hard to catch up on. I really like the show though.

Honestly, I'm just looking forward to the new Star Wars. Never got into TV sci-fi.

I was looking for Stargate a couple days ago.  I never saw it.  It has been taken off Netflix.  I did start watching Battlestar Galactica (1978), which I think is pretty good.  Back in the '90s, I watched a lot of Next Generation.  Currently, I watch Doctor Who, but I hadn't seen many episodes from the current season.

If I want Scifi, I get it from comics.  I'm reading more than a few of them.  I like movies too.

Stargate Universe is pretty good. It's the one closest to Star Trek and it has like 2 seasons I think. Basically, it takes place on a spaceship and it's about trying to get back home, so it's like Voyager but with space marines.

Sci-Fi stuff...hmm. I do love watching old episodes of Star Trek TNG, DS9, Enterprise (if I could find them), and I do watch an episode or two of Firefly.I think the last Sci-Fi (if you can call it that) is Warehouse 13 on SyFy. I thought it was such a good show with likeable characters.

I own the Firefly boxset. I also watched a bit of Warehouse but it was cancelled I think?

Yeah W13 ended after 5 seasons I think. I haven't watched any of the last season, kind of like I haven't seen (actually refuse to watch) the last episode of Firefly.

I don't have much time for tv shows, not if I want to play games too. I really like Firefly, though that certainly isn't science-heavy. But funny you mention Ghost in the Shell. My wife and I are watching Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig right now (I've seen it before, she hasn't). I love Ghost in the Shell.

The thing about Stand Alone Complex is that I was only ever able to see it once a week light at night when it first aired. I think it still runs late at night on weekends, but I was able to watch episodes back-to-back on streaming sites like Hulu.

I think it used to be on Netflix but not anymore. We just bought the DVDs.

A little while ago I was going through all the Doctor Who episodes I never saw that came out before the Tom Baker years. I'm kinda too busy with gaming now to watch anything much except for a few documentaries on youtube here and there. I will see the Star Wars movie when it comes out and Chappie next month by the makers of District 9.

Also, I was reserching the Dune books just last week for part of one of my blogs. I definitely read the first three and then part of the next trilogy before I lost interest. Those first three are great though and I'd read them again.

All I care about is Doctor Who.  I loved the first season of Person of Interest, but have not found the time to jump back into it.
