What is your favourite multiplayer game?

I'm primarily a single player guy, but Hearthstone stole so many goddamn hours from me it's not funny. Apart from that, I've played 50 hours of CS:GO, so there's that.

Oh, and I've played nearly 400 hours of Guild Wars 2, so that's by far my favourite MMO. Asreal and I made a guild together... that has three members because I have all of the options to change stuff and I haven't had proper internet for 3 months. Sorry buddy!

 Anyway, Favourite multiplayer game. GO!

I'm usually a lone wolf when it comes to games, even MMOs where I usually just run with randoms. So all the MMOs with combined hours I'd say make up most of my online gaming time. I remember playing Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast a lot back in the day, and lately it's been online Smash Bros.

As for GuildWars2, hopefully you can get proper internet by the time the new content patch rolls out. I was holding off until then to jump back in. There is supposed to be a new class I think.

Oh yeah, I'll be back in by then. Bilby just bought the game so I'm going to let her in the guild and play and shit when I get my own place and internet again. (GW2 was 10 bucks so we bought it while it was on sale.)

There are lots of multiplayer games I've enjoyed over the years.  Accessible fighters like Soul Calibur and Smash Bros., racers like Mario Kart, and arcade classics like the TMNT arcade game or Bubble Bobble, to name a few.  And I wish Nintendo would make another Four Swords Zelda game!

So... a lot of people like Smash Bros. Guess I should get around to playing them at some point I guess...

favorite?  That's tough.  But if I had to pick one, it would be all the iterations of Team Fortress, back to the original Quake mod, to whatever it will be in the future.

400 hours of Guild Wars?  Damn man, that game must be fun.

Pokemon, Smash Bros. and Mario Kart for me. The former has really great online is great for online play while the latter is good at local.

One Mario Kart or another. Also Crash Team Racing. I would include the Sonic and All Stars games because they are so slick but I've only played them as single player

You should have separated a distinction between online and local, and if co-op also counts, but oh well.

For local, Halo 2 and the first game is my favorite of all. I passed many hours with friends over that mode. I also love the multiplayer of any Mario Kart (with emphasis on 64 and Wii), the crazy Co-op of New Super Mario Bros Wii and the simple fun of Wii Sports and its Resort sequel. I actually remember doing a favorite local multiplayers over 1up.

For online, so far it's only Team Fortress 2, but by god is that game lots of fun and so well done.

Halo:  Reach.  My brothers and I would get together on a fairly regular basis and play splitscreen online.  It was a blast.

A runner-up would have to be Destiny's PvP mode, Control.  There was just something that stood out for me.

Yeah, that's the only game both of my brothers will play with me! We usually use stupid rules, like low gravity super speed rockets etc.

Overall, not sure, but I really enjoyed Halo 2 for multiplayer.

Once every few months my friend would have what he called a "funfest", where 12-16 of us would system link xboxes and play Halo 2. I sucked at it. That's probably why I hated Halo for so long haha.

Pokemon. There's no MP game deeper than that IMO

Eh. I tried playing multiplayer with a friend, but he'd spent like months building his team and he kept flogging me, so I gave up, because if this is what a guy who doesn't play much I'd hate to go online.

I guess my favorite Multiplayer would be Battlefront on the PS2. That was the one game I would always play online. I wasn't as good as the others but it was fun running around and shooting at the Rebels.

I'm not a big fan of multiplayer games.  I like playing fighting games and beat'em ups with friends in the room with me.  Not crazy about online gaming.

Couch multiplayer is the only way to play fighting games. I don't know how you could play with a random if you can't swear at them/look smug when you spam one attack and win.

That's a tough question. I don't play as much multiplayer as I used to since leaving home. Having two brothers made multiplayer a breeze. I play a lot of co-op things now with my wife but if I had to pick a favorite...probably Smash Bros. If you press me for which one I'd probably pick Melee.

Yeah, I still need to play Smash Bros...

I dont play alot of multiplayer stuff, well let me rephase that, Before Dan I didnt play alot of multiplayer. There was a huge period in my life where i gamed alone. One of my most cherished memories was before my sister cassie stopped gaming with me we played pretty nearly all the old Dynasty warriors games together. It was a series we shared a love for. So i have to say Dynasty Warriors. Even today i love playing it alongside someone.

 That's pretty awesome :)

I'm still a solo gamer. And I get grumpy when playing co-op. Ask Bilby. Playing Diablo with me must be a nightmare haha. Or WoW. She wants to explore and I'm just like "NO! Do the quests, we can explore later..." I'm a terrible person to game with haha.

There was a time when I played Unreal Tournament 2003 for years. I was obsessed with that damn game. I think it was mostly because of the friends I had made though. Sooner or later everybody scattered to the winds. I don't really bother with multiplayer stuff much nowadays.

That game is awesome. I actually found a few servers online and had a game of that the other day, it was awesome.

But yeah, that is one thing that sucks about online gaming. I lost a lot of drive to keep playing Guild Wars 2 once my guild disbanded.

Counter Strike 1.6 will forever remain my favorite multiplayer experience, on account of all the good memories I created with my now-deceased uncle.

It's a really good and fun fps.  It'll make you way better at any and all other fps you try.

I may have asked you this before, but what are your opinions on CS:GO?

xDarthKiLLx

02/11/2015 at 09:28 AM

I haven't played any CS:GO.  Does it have the GunGame mode that was made popular by 1.6?  If so, I could seriously get into it.

Blake Turner Staff Writer

02/11/2015 at 09:37 AM

Yep, that's an official mode now, not just a private server thing.

I love that mode. If CS GO is on PS4, I'm sold.

I'll be biased and say Smash Bros. I still have friends I get together with and we all still play!

Last multipayer game, and I assume you mean competitive multiplayer, that I really enjoyed was Hogs of War on PS1. It's same-screen, turn-based, 3D-world Worms basically. Since then it's been all co-op, unless you consider Firefight and Hoard mode in Halo: Reach and Gears of War 3 respectively competitive multiplayer.
