More Random Happenings

I feel pretty BaD not contributing lately since everybody is going crazy with BaD. Also, I'm not very good at coming up with blog titles in case anybody never noticed. Snee is the master in that regard. I'd like to just say Random Update, but that's Tami's thing. So here's some more random crap I've been doing.
There are a couple of reviews in the works. Contra 4 might take awhile. That game is hard as hell, and I don't want to review games that I can't beat. I did that in the past and regretted it. My friend ForteII once said that he would never trust a review written by someone that hasn't beaten a game. Which seemed like a harsh statement at the time. I understand what he meant now. Especially when it comes to old school games. Take TMNT II for example.
I might get crucified for saying this, but whatever. It kind of boggles my feeble mind seeing this game make Top Ten NES lists. Not to imply that it's bad or anything. I'm just wondering if those people have actually played it in over 20 years.
It takes forever to get to Shredder. Tons of Foot soldiers are thrown at you along the way. Levels feel dull and uninspired. Bosses are basically damage sponges. Then when you finally do make it to Shredder, the cheap bastard can kill you instantly with a certain attack.
It's obvious that this game is an inferior port when compared to the arcade it originated from. I guess that's what people wanted at the time. Maybe it's on top ten lists because it had co-op? That was a huge deal back then. I don't know.
Anyway, here's some games I bought recently.
I've been wanting to get more into shmups lately, and have had my eye on this one. It's currently on sale on GOG. Or was at the time of this writing. Crimzon Clover World Ignition is classified as bullet hell. What I've played certainly confirms that. There's a couple of different ships to choose from. A couple of different attacks for each ship. The music is pretty good and it runs silky smooth on my PC.
Hopefully it won't be completely impossible. I mean, just look at this...
Yikes!
I also bought Final Fantasy IV yet again during the Square Enix publisher sale on Steam. This is the DS version. Which means your looking at a game made for the tiny DS screen yet blown up to much higher resolutions. During the story parts you can clearly see pixels. That ok though.
Final Fantasy IV is such a classic game. The voice acting is pretty good too. I'm fairly certain that the guy who voices Kain did the voice for Caius in FF XIII-2. Kain is really the main reason why I love the Dragoon class so much.
Yeah. This probably isn't much of a surprise. I'm a sucker for 2D platformers. I'm still waiting for this to come in the mail, but am definitely looking forward to it. There's so many DS and 3DS games that I want. It's kind of ridiculous. Hopefully I can get Bravely Default next month. Or maybe Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.
You might be thinking WTF is this? Elliot Quest is a 2D adventure game that runs in the vein of a few classics. From what I've played, it seems like a mixture of Metroid, Zelda, and Kid Icarus. Some of the music tracks sound way too similar to songs found in Zelda games actually. It has a lovely pixlart style. You use a bow as your main weapon.
In other news I'm about halfway through season 1 of the old Batman show. Still haven't come across Catwoman yet. I also got this finally...
Finally! I now have the entire run of Fist of the North Star. Man, I love this anime, and have been wanting to watch it again for forever. It'll take a while since there's 152 episodes. I've been hesitant to pick up this last volume because the plot goes to some strange places near the end. In the end it's more people's heads exploding though. How could I say no?
I wish we would have gotten more FOTNS games over here. Ken's Rage was pretty good, but also extremely repetitive. Don't even get me started on that abomination they released on NES.
Anyway, that's probably enough babbling for now. I know there's like a billion blogs to read. So thanks for reading this one.
