More Random Happenings

I feel pretty BaD not contributing lately since everybody is going crazy with BaD. Also, I'm not very good at coming up with blog titles in case anybody never noticed. Snee is the master in that regard. I'd like to just say Random Update, but that's Tami's thing. So here's some more random crap I've been doing.

There are a couple of reviews in the works. Contra 4 might take awhile. That game is hard as hell, and I don't want to review games that I can't beat. I did that in the past and regretted it. My friend ForteII once said that he would never trust a review written by someone that hasn't beaten a game. Which seemed like a harsh statement at the time. I understand what he meant now. Especially when it comes to old school games. Take TMNT II for example.

I might get crucified for saying this, but whatever. It kind of boggles my feeble mind seeing this game make Top Ten NES lists. Not to imply that it's bad or anything. I'm just wondering if those people have actually played it in over 20 years.

It takes forever to get to Shredder. Tons of Foot soldiers are thrown at you along the way. Levels feel dull and uninspired. Bosses are basically damage sponges. Then when you finally do make it to Shredder, the cheap bastard can kill you instantly with a certain attack.

It's obvious that this game is an inferior port when compared to the arcade it originated from. I guess that's what people wanted at the time. Maybe it's on top ten lists because it had co-op? That was a huge deal back then. I don't know.

Anyway, here's some games I bought recently.

I've been wanting to get more into shmups lately, and have had my eye on this one. It's currently on sale on GOG. Or was at the time of this writing. Crimzon Clover World Ignition is classified as bullet hell. What I've played certainly confirms that. There's a couple of different ships to choose from. A couple of different attacks for each ship. The music is pretty good and it runs silky smooth on my PC.

Hopefully it won't be completely impossible. I mean, just look at this...

Yikes!

I also bought Final Fantasy IV yet again during the Square Enix publisher sale on Steam. This is the DS version. Which means your looking at a game made for the tiny DS screen yet blown up to much higher resolutions. During the story parts you can clearly see pixels. That ok though.

Final Fantasy IV is such a classic game. The voice acting is pretty good too. I'm fairly certain that the guy who voices Kain did the voice for Caius in FF XIII-2. Kain is really the main reason why I love the Dragoon class so much.

Yeah. This probably isn't much of a surprise. I'm a sucker for 2D platformers. I'm still waiting for this to come in the mail, but am definitely looking forward to it. There's so many DS and 3DS games that I want. It's kind of ridiculous. Hopefully I can get Bravely Default next month. Or maybe Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

You might be thinking WTF is this? Elliot Quest is a 2D adventure game that runs in the vein of a few classics. From what I've played, it seems like a mixture of Metroid, Zelda, and Kid Icarus. Some of the music tracks sound way too similar to songs found in Zelda games actually. It has a lovely pixlart style. You use a bow as your main weapon.

In other news I'm about halfway through season 1 of the old Batman show. Still haven't come across Catwoman yet. I also got this finally...

Finally! I now have the entire run of Fist of the North Star. Man, I love this anime, and have been wanting to watch it again for forever. It'll take a while since there's 152 episodes. I've been hesitant to pick up this last volume because the plot goes to some strange places near the end. In the end it's more people's heads exploding though. How could I say no?

I wish we would have gotten more FOTNS games over here. Ken's Rage was pretty good, but also extremely repetitive. Don't even get me started on that abomination they released on NES.

Anyway, that's probably enough babbling for now. I know there's like a billion blogs to read. So thanks for reading this one.

Dig that Crimson Clover cover art.

Yeah. It's funny how digital games have cover art. What's there to cover?

I never owned the original New Super Mario Bros, but I had played it a couple of times and definitely loved it.

I'm definitely looking forward to it after New Super Mario Bros. 2.

I watched a youtuber play a lil bit of Elliots Quest, it looked like a pretty good game. I might get it on the Wii U, still debating it. I watched Fist of the north star a long time ago. It was weird to me as a teen, I think I'd like it now.

I like it so far. I wasn't aware that it was released for consoles. I'm so out of touch when it comes to modern consoles lol. It might be worth a look. I had originally watched FotNS on Hulu. I don't know if it's still on there though. Undecided

LAst Battle was pretty good.  Did u know that was basically Fist of the North Star?

152 episodes is a lot though.

you're making me want to play FFIV.  I started playing X again these past few days.  I think I'm gonna re-download the PSP version and play that.  Like I said the other day, I like the 3D version, but not the touch controls on iPad.

I remember having a great time playing Last Battle (SMS).  It's been a long time since I last played that game.  It's similar to Kung Fu (NES).

I had to look up Last Battle. I never played it, but I'll definitely try to somehow.

It took me a long time to watch FotNS. It was worth it though.

My brother has been playing FF X a lot lately. That was mostly what made me want to buy FF IV again. If that makes any sense lol. That and the damn Steam sale.

I've reviewed games I can't beat all the time.  There's just no way I'd be able to meet any kind of deadline that way.  But I've reviewed games for nearly 20 years, so I think I can get a good bead on a game without actually beating it most of the time.

It was only two games that I ever did that with. One of those being Battletoads. I'll probably never be able to beat that game. I can understand having deadlines, but I don't feel right doing it. No offense Cary.

Hadn't played TMNT2 (NES) in many years.  I think it's on top 10 lists because people remember having fun playing it.  I just play the arcade version on my 360 or an emulator.

Crimzon Clover looks nice.  I don't remember the last time I play a shooter.  I'm sure I played something last year.

I've never played FFIV.  I own it on the PS and PSP.  I don't know if I own the DS version.

The DS and 3DS has so many great games.  It's fun trying to collect the games I want.  You should join the Nintendo Club if you haven't already.  It will be it's last year.  Register your games and get points towards free stuff.  I got a digital version of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for free last year.

Never heard of Elliot Quest.  I'll have to look into it.

I've only seen a couple episodes of Fist of the North Star.  I would like to watch it, but I only see it with subtitles.  I wish I could find more dubbed episodes.

That's what I figure. Not to say that it's bad or anything. It's just kind of bland and there are better beat em ups on NES in my worthless opinion. As far as TMNT games go, I like the third one the best. And Turtles in Time of course.

The last shmup I played was Dragon Spirit (NES). I had bought Ikaruga on Steam not that long ago. So I'm looking forward to that one too. I never really played that many shmups.

FF IV is probably my third favorite FF game besides 6 and 9. I have the PSP version and it's pretty good. I think it holds up better visually than the DS version.

I've joined Club Nintendo. There's a few games I'd like to get on the 3DS VC, but I don't know if there's enough time. Unless I just go beserk and start buying a bunch of Nintendo games.

I usually prefer watching anime subtitled. They might have FotNS on Hulu or Crackle or something if you want to try watching it again.

One of the beat'em ups everyone seems to love and I never liked was Battletoads.  That game is hard for no good reason and playing it co-op is worse.

I played Ikaruga for a while on the GC.  I could get to the 3rd level without losing a ship.  Now, I can barely get through the 1st level without losing a ship.  I have on the 360, but I hadn't played it in many months.

If you really want to rack up points, look for every Nintendo product with a code and plug them in.  To get even more points, I go through GameStops used Nintendo game sections and pull codes sheets from them.  Many of them are unused.

I like subbed anime, but I can't watch it with my kids around.  At any given second, I have to stop a fight, change a diaper, help with school work, save a life, etc.  It makes for a lot of pauses and rewinds.  It takes forever just to get through a couple episodes. Laughing

I've pretty much given up hope of ever being able to beat Battletoads. Despite the countless hours of my youth spent playing that damn game, I never could beat it. I still like to play it every once in a while. It definitely has problems though. Like insane difficulty spikes.

I was kind of worried about Ikaruga before I bought it since it has a reputation. My friend said that it basically boils down to extreme memorization and muscle memory. I don't know if I'll be able to get far without a ton of practice, but whatever. It seems like a highly polished game.

Honestly, I can't remember the last time I was in GameStop lol. And yeah. I can definitely understand that. My brother and me was trying to play Diablo 3, but it was impossible to make progress with a two year old running around. That's just one kid too. It's hard to imagine having four lol. Cool

I really want to check out those Fist of the North Star games and the anime.

Ken's Rage was good. If you like Dynasty Warriors you will probably like it. I think I just played way too much of it in such a short period of time that I got burnt out. I wanted to get the second one, but I don't know if there was a physical release of it. Undecided

I keep hoping it's like God Hand.

I've never played God Hand so I couldn't say.

I'm pretty sure from demos I've played that it's similar in style but perhaps a little less intentionally silly.

Aaron, I don't mind if you use Random Update. It's a pretty generic title.

Thanks Tami! I might try to come up with something else. It takes me awhile to write reviews, and sometimes it's nice to just talk about random stuff. I just wasn't sure about that.
