I never exactly got the hang of fusing Djiins in Golden Sun when I played it either, I don't think. But that was probably more due to my lack of JRPG IQ.
So I understand where you're coming from with the demon fusion thing ... kinda. lol

Every now and then there is an urge to play this GBA game that I got since the last time I’ve been in Ohio. I have missed a few MegaTen games that were actually released in the US at the time I was visiting Ohio so sadly my first experience with the series was DemiKids: Dark Version. this game, along with its White Version counterpart, is in a way a gateway title to draw Pokemon fans to Atlus’ flagship series and it wasn’t that bad. If you had played another game from the series such as Strange Journey or Nocturne you’ll notice a few differences in this GBA title but you can see where the MegaTen roots would be. The reason why I haven’t beaten this game yet is one feature that turned me off: the fusion system. I love fusioning demons whenever I play these games but I suppose I was turned off by the lack of a guide on fusion. In fact I think there isn’t an actual guide in english on DemiKids fusions and everyone else is just as clueless as I am. It gets worse when the order of which demons you select for fusion comes up with a different result when selected in reverse.
I was going to start over again and see if I can crack the code. I will try to crack the code but I am NOT starting over again. I’ve progressed a quite a bit the last time I played and I’m not putting myself through the first section again. In any case I think I’ll make the upcoming weekend into a SMT one since I got it on the mind again.
I had to use guides to set up my classes on the Golden Sun games but in any case DemiKids didn't have much of a guide for it's fusion system like it does with any game with a booklet or Fusion Search.
I might be able to figure it out since the basic formula for fusion is common through most of the series but it might take some time since the families are bundled in "types" and some fusions will be different if the selection order is swapped. My only saving grace was Pure Fusion, which by fusing the same demon a certain amount of times will get me a stronger demon of that species instead of elementals (Like fusing a bunch of Jack Frosts to make a King Frost).
I never heard of this game. I'll have to look into getting it. I played Strange Journey (DS). That game is hard. I made it to the last boss and decided to quit. It took me over 120hrs to get that far and I was tired of playing the game 60 before that. It's not one of my favorite SMT games.
I've managed to beat Strange Journey on the Law route but I was horribly under prepared and poorly made my party. It was a surprise that I even brute forced it.
As for DemiKids many people wrote it off because of lesser reasons such as calling it a Pokemon ripoff or comparing it to the other SMT games released at the time. If you do find a copy just be ready for the menu system.
