Pixlbiticans how have you been since we last spoke all of 24 hours ago. In a couple of hours from now I will be dining on authentic Fair food for lunch. Yes crazy items that are either stuck on a stick, deep-fried, and maybe both will be enjoyed. Because of this last night I decided to go back to the Gym before I did my walk. I’d like to blame my return to the gym on being sucked into the Arrow TV Universe where the women are pretty and the men apparently work out 12 hours a day. Oh yeah crazy body shaming (I type this while eating leftover popcorn from last night. Breakfast of Champions.) Currently the arms are hurting and today will be leg day. It is Quick Hits day, Friday the 13th, and the day before Valentine’s Day so Happy Pre Love/Friday the 13th Day! Let’s get started with another Quick Hits!

Chris Watches…

Arrow

This week episode is my first episode that I actually watched when it originally airs. I have to say the show builds up drama right before the commercial breaks. I also wanted to see how the writers handled the tension between Oliver and Felicity. Last week she told him that she didn’t want to be the woman that he loves, and you could see the heartbreak on his face. It looked something like this

This week Felicity was in mean mode and dropped some reality on Oliver when he was angry that Laurel has started up as the new Canary, taking the place of her sister. It feels like this episode was trying to get the viewer to not only like Laurel as Canary but make her likeable in general. I don’t like her because of the Tommy/Laurel storyline in Season 1. As the episode progresses she is hit with an a dart of this drug that makes you see your greatest fear, and her fear was her sister who proceeds to beat the crap out of her

Sara the sister on the right, Laurel on the left

I actually liked this episode because the dynamic of Team Arrow has changed. Instead of Oliver ruling over everything, it feels more like a partnership now that everyone is shouldering the load of protecting the city. Dark Felicity is an interesting change from her awkward sayings but this is a natural thing especially after what she said to Oliver. The end of the episode where Oliver told the team he was leaving for a few days was epic. Instead of the usual handshakes and hugs the team just looked at Oliver. It felt like they are annoyed/angry that he’s doing this again, and Felicity had her arms cross, but she was fiddling with her fingers as to seem that she was nervous (the internets and their many gifs pointed this out). It’ll be interesting to see what the writers have in store for the rest of the season. I’m excited for the big Team Arrow vs. Ra’s Al Ghul and his merry Assassins, and for all that is good in the world, put Oliver and Felicity together already. I get that the writers are not following Comic book canon, but this slow burn is frustrating (but it adds to to the story).

Agent Carter

In my other show based off comic book characters, we find out that the Russian Scientist that was rescued by Peggy is actually still working for the government, and the sleeper spy has made contact and tried to kill Peggy. Since we are getting towards the end of the mini series the story is finally reaching the point where everything will end in a big shootout where Peggy will say something witty before killing the bad guy. This is what I learned from movies, so it should happen. I’m going to miss this show because Peggy Carter is an interesting character but I can’t wait for the return of Agents of SHIELD.

The Grammy’s

I do love watching awards shows just to complain about who won and who should have won. Overall the Grammy’s were ok. I thought the majority of acts were a little dull, and apparently it was the Sam Smith show. Funny considering out of all the albums I bought over the past year, I always skipped his. The funny thing is that for most of the albums of the year I seem to have purchased at least two or three from their list.

Since it was a major awards show Kanye had to go Kanye. I like Kanye’s music, but I think dude needs to calm down a bit with the ego. Its one thing to blast the Grammy’s about rewarding artists but c’mon saying Beyonce should have had album of the year is freaking insane. He talked about the diminishing art of music and uses a woman who has a team of writers and a backup band as his example of what’s right over a guy who is clearly the definition of a musician by being able to play all his instruments and write his own music. I’m not a Beck fan but I can respect the craftsmanship he put into his work. Kanye writes his own stuff and used to make beats for others, you would think he would side with the artist who did everything himself instead of relying on a team to create their album. Also Beyonce is so freaking overrated I don’t get the appeal and I like pop music.

I think Kanye’s outbursts have more to do with the fact that he is pushing a new clothing line, and new sneakers from Adidas than anything else.

Aztecs Sports

This week on Montezuma Mesa is Tony Gwynn week. The Aztecs Baseball team is set to retire Tony’s #19 today. He wore #28 as a player and #19 as the coach. The Basketball team also celebrated Tony because he was also a member of the Basketball team

The student section The Show unveiled a special Tony Gwynn banner instead of it’s normal Show banner. Tony’s son Anthony lead the “I Believe That We Will Win” chant, and his Tony’s daughter sung the National Anthem. At halftime when the baseball team was given their Conference Champions Rings, Chris Gwynn, Tony’s brother accepted Tony’s ring.

Baseball is starting up today, and last night on the Mountain West App, I got to watch the home opener of Aztecs Softball

Its interesting to see the athletics logo in the middle of the jersey

It’s good to see the defending MWC Champs beat North Dakota State. A fun FYI: the present home of SDSU Softball and the Aquaplex is the former home to one of the dorms I lived in. I remember voting in favor of building that facility but they didn’t start construction until after I graduated. What the hell SDSU? I help pay for the dang thing, I wanted to sit in one of the pools after class.

Chris Wanders Around…

The Midweek Swapmeet

Since the Swapmeet is going to take a break because of the fair, I went on Wednesday to see any new items being showcased. The comic book/video game guy was back and this time he was selling his old consoles and flat screen. There was also a new video game vendor who informed me that all PS3 and 360 games were $8 each. Unfortunately there wasn’t anything I really wanted but that was a great price especially since everyone else was going 15-20 for PS3 games. I also spotted Lego Reseller guy who probably hit the local Targets for the Clearance Microfighters and other sets. He had a couple of AT-AT’s which are still in stores so good luck moving those if he planned on marking up the cost.

The GameStop

I got stopped by an employee after my trip to the Swapmeet and said that I was always there. I told him I check out the store every other week and he said he remembered me. Props to GameStop for remembering their customers…and maybe I should visit the store every two weeks. Speaking of which I’m going to take a break here and fill out his survey.

Costco

I never understood this, but once again while I was there, the place was packed and there was a line for the cheeseburger samples. When I say line I don’t mean two or three people, but at least a dozen folks waiting for a bit size sample of a frozen cheeseburger. Am I the only one who noticed that there is a place by the exit that sells $1.50 hot dogs, and $5 BBQ Sandwiches (the are great by the way.)

Pickups

Well earlier this week you saw two games I bought on the Vita. When I bought those games I also picked up this game

I downloaded the PS3 version because it was a PS+ freebie, but this is a game I wanted to play on the PS4 and was waiting for a price drop and it finally dropped to $17 or so. It’s a first person game where you play as a (big shock) thief, and to fit in with my current Arrow obsession, you have a bow and arrow.

When I didn’t find any new Lego at the Swapmeet I went to the GameStop and found a couple of games.

Ok so I bought back Call of Duty on the Vita but unlike the one my Vita was packaged with, this one is complete with game case and it came with a voucher for the Call of Duty game on the PSP. C’mon Sony, I bought the Call of Duty Vita, why didn’t I get this voucher? As for the game I saw at the Swapmeet but didn’t buy, GameStop had it for $10 less. Yeah I know the game might not be good but the concept sounded interesting.

Alright Pixlbit I think you had enough of my ramblings about Superhero shows and walking around different areas, and let’s face it, my arms are killing me right now. I like to blame lack of stretching, but oh well. Anyways have a good 3 day weekend, and for you folks outside of the US, take Monday off too.

That’s all for now, more Monday!

-Chris

Wait, why do we have Monday off? SFASU doesn't. Well damn. I guess my university hates President's Day.

And yeah, I think Jay-Z needs to talk with Kanye about why he's so obsessed with his wife ... or maybe this is a deal between them, where Jay-Z is pissed for his wife and Kanye has agreed to be his "anger translator" a la Key and Peele.

Yeah colleges tend to do that. SDSU never had holidays but some profs would do the whole "I'm going to be sick on these days" thing on their syllabus which kind of made up for it.

It seems like that could be it with Kanye and Beyonce, but seriously her album was on the list purely on hype.

I've heard a few people say they thought her album was overrated. I don't take Grammys seriously anyway. I was conditioned not to by every comedy show in the 90s. Hell, I run a radio station and didn't even know it was on until later that night. Saw NO advertsing for it, even on Twitter and my facebook wall.

My prof last semester kept saying he was impressed by how packed our fall schedule is here (he was new). We really don't take many breathers in fall. Now Spring goes by a little TOO fast ...

I don't take them as seriously anymore either but its always nice to know that an album you like was recongnized by the Grammy's. I didn't even bother to listen to her new album even after it just appeared on iTunes and shocked everybody.

Yeah the Spring sessions tend to fly by a little faster which can be a good thing.

Yep, well we all know how I feel about the whole Kanye/Beyonce/Beck thing so I agree with you except that I don't like Kanye at all and I do like Beck even though the last record of his that I own is the brilliant Sea Change, album full of emotion particularly sadness..

What I really like about Beck is the fact that he cannot be pigeonholed. Just when you think you know who he is he puts out a record that sounds like a totally different person/genre.

I didn't know that about Beck's music being able to cover different genres. The stuff I listened to I didn't really care for but I should be looking at checking out his other stuff. Who knows I might like it.

Try various albums, you'll find something I'm positive

I might hit the local mom & pop either this week or next week. I'll grab a couple of different albums and check them out.

I read that Arrow was going down in the ratings. Any thoughts on this? Is the show degrading? Last I watched, Oliver fell off a cliff and died? Was he resurrected like Jesus or some shit? What the fuck?

I think with Arrow they might have turned off some comic book fans by not following the book. I've never read the books so everything I like about the show is unique to the show, but seeing how the Felicity Character has gained serious traction compared to Laurel (his Lois Lane) it could drive the hard core fans away. I also think it might have to do with the pacing of the show and that for two seasons the storyline has progressed at the same pace with the only thing different is the villains. Season 3 seems to be on pace with this, and right after the winter break the build up to the season finale is beginning.

Ollie did fall but he was rescued by Maseo and brought to his wife Tastu to operate on. Apparently the cold kept him alive so Tastu nursed him back to health and helped go back to Starling.

Started watching Arrow a while ago and really enjoy it. Haven't quite caught up recently but I'll sort that out soon enough.
