I never really liked boxing games. Not even Punch Out. Activision had a boxing game on the 2600 that was kinda fun, though.

Ya know it's kinda funny reviewing this game. I had Ready 2 Rumble on the PS2 and I loved it. You got to even unlock secret boxers such as the king of pop himself Michael Jackson and Michael Buffer the ever famous in ring announcer who made '' Let's get ready to rumble'' ring out to thousands in attendance and millions watching at home. So without further ado...I present an unholy revolution.
Anyways Revolution sucks in every conceivable way, the most heinous of which is the controls. You'll shake the remote as if you are having a seizure. Before a match is over your arms will be tired and you'll realize why I hate this game. Every action or move you make will either be wrong...or fail to connect. I mean boxing on Wii Sports was better and that was a pack in mini game.
And that's the big problem I have. I can take the muddy textures. I can manage the bad stereotypes. Heck, even the lack of create your own character customization is not as bad as this games controls. I haven't hated a games controls this much since super monkey ball step & roll... And I utterly despise that game.
Pulling off a basic punch is easy enough; you do that by air punching the TV screen. However, to pull off other moves you will need to thrust your Wii remote (and nunchuck) in different directions, many of which make you feel like an idiot. But the biggest problem with this is that often times you will need to use both the remote and the nunchuck at the same time. Most of the time it's the nunchuck that has the problems.
Most of the powerful hits require you to pull back and wind up your attack. This makes sense, the very idea pulling my arm back to get ready to lay a powerful punch is awesome. I could even say FALCON PUNCH! However, the whole thing is so badly executed that you will accidentally trigger a weak attack. Not being able to pull off specific moves because of shitty controls is an issue.
Winning a match doesn't require skill, instead it requires luck. This could have been easily solved. Allll the developers had to do was add an option to use the classic/gamecube controller. We already know that this type of game works well with a standard control scheme, why add this unecessary option?
Mini games are another problem. Each of the mini games is meant to help you get used to using the Wii's motion control. Unfortunately, all these modes made me want to do is kick my Wii through my television set. For example, one of the modes has you quickly move the remote and nunchuck in one of four directions. The problem is that your movements rarely register, so you'll find yourself sitting there failing all of these mini-games for no reason. It's frustrating and a huge waste of time.
So if it's not apparently obvious...the controls ruin this game...and while everything else is bad, it's nowhere near as terrible as the controls.
