Some of you already know that my/our cat, Clinger, was euthanized this morning, after having been sick for a while with kidney problems we were treating him for, and becoming virtually unable to move himself within the past couple days; we decided to end his suffering. I appreciate the condolences those of you who knew have given very much. I don't want to dwell on it too much, at least not in a sad way, but it will work its way in to parts of my blog today. Let me first just repost a eulogy of sorts I gave him on my personal facebook, and then I'll move on to the regularly scheduled blog.

"I remember when we got you from the animal shelter, and I named you Clinger cause you wouldn't let go; then you got home, climbed walls, did backflips for us, jumped feet in the air for tennis balls, and seemed to cling to everyone, always social. I couldn't watch you whimper and be unable to move any more, but I think you earned your name. Fifteen years is a hell of a run. R.I.P. Clinger. I'll miss you."

Would you believe I had a whole blog about Super Mario Sunshine and Just for Fun Friday written below this? Believe it. The electrician turned the power off right around 6pm when I was just about to post the last video (Flogging Molly's "What's Keft of the Flag"), and a few minutes later, because my mom was upset my dad had been driving all day and had taken another route, (he's a delivery driver for medical companies, and had been driving since last night) she forced me to drive instead and help him with his last delievery, which ended up taking about two hours or so (we left at 7 something after he got ready, electricity was still out).

So, rather than redo everything, I'll just give you the rundown of what was there, and post the videos. Having stayed up with Clinger for his last night last night, I'm tired myself, and don't really feel like redoing it all.

- Bing Image Mad Libz involved Cancun, Julianne Hough and Miami Heat, and I used it as a lame excuse to diss the Heat, cause I'm a Mavericks fan, and there's a bit of a history there.

As far as GLaD 15:

- I like Super Mario Sunshine better than Mario 64
- Might be cause I thought Star Fox 64 was N64's killer app (I got it for Christmas in 1997, a few months after we got Clinger, incidentally) and even its launch title (I was seven). By the time I played Mario 64, 3D platformers were not that amazing to see.
- Other people called Sunshine "gay" cause of the aesthetic, mainly, I defended it as a very fun title, and who cares if kids can enjoy it too.
- Of the three major Big N franchise games released between Fall 2002 and Spring 2003, the Triforce if you will (other two being Wind Waker, Metroid Prime), Sunshine is the only one I don't own, which is weird, cause I think I enjoyed it the most of those
- I recalled that TAco Bell had a toy campaign for the N64 way back when and I had the controller and pyramid maze toys

- Finally, because the last family death to affect me was my grandpa's way back in high school, and because he was Irish and we mourned his death/celbrated his life in an Irish manner, I dedicated the following Irish themed songs for Clinger (Green Day is in there because, green. Also, its lyrics) for Just for Fun Friday. These are the songs.

Happy St. Paddy's Weekend!

My condolences for your loss.

I missed out on the Gamecube during it's actual lifecycle, so I didn't play Super Mario Sunshine when it actually came out. I tried to go back and play it a few months back to see what I missed and I wasn't a fan of the FLUDD. Had I played it when it was released, I'd probably feel differently, but I have to pick Super Mario 64 over Sunshine, myself.

Thank you.

odd that you prefer 64, and i prefer sunshine for almost the same reason. Lol

Sorry about your cat but at least you had 15 good years with her.

I always wanted to play Mario Sunshine but could never break down and buy it.  I loved the Ghostbusters on Wii and imagined Sunshine shared some of the same game mechanic.

By the way, Irish or not, you can never go wrong with Floggin Molly!!

Him actually. Thank you for the condolences though.

Super Mario Sunshine is not gay.....you silly nilly!  It's adorable! Just kidding you....it's a great game. I am a huge fan of Flogging Molly. I've seen them live 4 times. Each time they come to Tulsa they play a historic venue called Cain's Ballroom. Sort of an intimate setting with superb acoustics. The entire place is wood! After their show their bass player,Nathan Maxwell, will sit and visit with fans for several hours. Very cool and funny fellow. Look for one of their vids in my St. Patrick's Day blog. As for Clinger, may he rest in peace. You gave him a good life and saved him from the shelter. Fine thing to do,and I'm sure he knew he was loved.    Oh...one more thing. Macklemore is incredible! I really like that a lot. Gotta check him out on iTunes.

Glad you like Macklemore! He is incredible, which is why I'm asking for his newest, The Heist, for my birthday. Sort of random how I found him, it was a Youtube video called "Teens React to Macklemore."

I need to see Flogging Molly live; sounds like an awesome venue in Tulsa.

And I didn't call Sunshine "gay," a bunch of people in middle school did. lol Mario's choices are his and his alone. haha Seriously though, I think it's a lot more fun than people give it credit for, sometimes.

Thank you for the condolences for Clinger. :)

Ah.. that really sucks. I'm sorry. But at least he had a long and full life. I still remember the last cat I loved. It was hard. Cats get a bad rap because they are so independent (& spraying), but if you find one that is affectionate, they are wonderful companions. RIP Clinger!

SMS was alright, I just didn't like being stuck with the water pack all the time.

See, I loved FLUDD, I felt it was fun to go around town spraying everything and using it as a jet pack after a series of jumps.

And yeah, cats do get a bad rap. Clinger was actually a lot like a puppy with his affection and mischeviousness, and cleaned himself. Win, win! Of course, towards the end, he was quite a handful, but he did lead a long life. I'm sorry you've lost a pet as well at some pint. Thank you for the condolences. :)

Both you and Broken have had cats be put down recently. Sorry for your loss.

I remember being super pumped for "Triforce" back when they first were announced. As it turned out, I never did get a Gamecube and the only one I've played to this day is Wind Waker!

Yeah, I know he had to put his down as well. I feel for him.

You should definitely play Prime and Sunshine if you get a chance.

I'm sorry for your loss, Joe.  Losing a pet is really hard.  We have such little time with them, but that time is so great.

I never owned Super MArio Sunshine.  I hear so many good things about it though.  I was too busy playing Wind Waker.  Wink

I was too busy playing Wind Waker myself, probably why I never bought it. lol I think I will though, if I see it on Amazon or in a bargain bin setting.

I've said it elsewhere, but sorry about Clinger. My little black Kaylee got an extra snuggle last night in his memory. After she was done surfing across the floor on the dog's bed. That cat...

Good song picks.

By "surfing," do you mean dragging ass across? Clinger did that, too... lol

No, she goes dashing across the cottage and leaps onto the dog bed and surfs across the floor, then she does it again from a different angle. She's into extreme sports, if you hadn't figured it out already - surfing, skydiving, tormenting the dog, etc.

Ah yes. I entered a tormenting the skydivers contest once, but it didn't work out. I still maintain that their height gave them unfair advantage.

I kinda figured it was younger kids throwing the word about. Funny how kids use words they don't even understand sometimes. Ever seen a little kid use the "N" word at the wrong time? Little white kids are funny when they do stupid stuff like that. Life lessons can be painful for ignorant little tykes.

Super Step Contributing Writer

03/16/2013 at 06:25 PM

Yup, and I was never one of those ignorant tykes. Not once Sealed

In all seriousness though, context is everything, but you're right, little kids don't know that and throw around some stupid words at very bad times. I weep for my mom who is still teaching at the middle school I attended.

I am so sorry for your loss =(

Super Mario Sunshine is a very awesome game. I never played Mario 64 though so I don't really have much to compair on it.

Yeah, I actually played SMS close to its release, and only rented Mario 64 a few times much later when stuff like Banjo had already released, and it didn't seem that amazing to me; I have Mario 64 DS and like it, but don't love it like I did SMS.
