BaD 6 Mardi Gras and Other Assorted Ramblings

Tommarrow is Fat Tuesday but I won't be getting drunk or wandering the Quarter. I will be at work and that is totally cool by me. When I moved to New Orleans the very first time when I was a kid in 1987, Mardi Gras for me was like discovering that some cities have a second Christmas. King cake, parades, beads and doubloons, purple, yellow, and green decorations everywhere. Now I'm grown and have sadly lost the Mardi Gras spirit. Now its all about rowdy tourist, traffic being a royal pain because the city has half of the major avenues blocked off for a parade. No parking to be found and if you do it will cost you a fortune. I still love king cake and my current means of making a living swings on the success of Mardi Gras so I just have to take it in stride.

Although I have not cut back too much on my gaming time I have deversified it some. I got the urge to play Super Castlevania IV and decided to see if I still got the skills to beat it again. And I busted out the original Borderlands since Gearbox re-opened the server for online multiplayer. Despite playing the ever living crap out of Borserlands 2, I actually only completed the main game plus all the dlc in Borderlands with Mordicai. I finished the main story with Lilith and I'm about half way through Brick's play through. I want to max them out and form up a party to take on Crawmerax. And I'm still playing Destiny, just not as much. Despite all it massive short comings its still strangly fun to play.

I would like to buy some music but finances are kind of in the air and I'm not feeling to easy about unneccessary spending. But on the list was a Irish or British band called Tennis, the latest album by Tobacco, Beck's Morning Phase, Boards of Canada (any of their ablums I don't have), and Bobby Womack just off the top of my head.

Well, I hope everyone is doing well and making the most of this ridiculous weather, seems to be lousy no matter where you are living. As always thinks for reading, Gemini out!

I'm with you.  A lot of my family and friends don't do Mardi Gras anymore.  I haven't been to a parade in over 20yrs.  Over the years, it's become more of a nuisance.  I guess I'm just becoming an old grinch. Laughing

At the very least I think we are just more selective about what we deem as "fun" when we get older.lol

That's it.  I think I'll go with that. Laughing

It was cold today, but I jogged a 5k in it in 30 minutes, so it wasn't that bad. Just dry cold.

I played through Super Castlevania 4 not that long ago. It wasn't too BaD. It kinda felt like a tech demo for what the SNES could handle to me. I didn't have any kind of nostalgic attachment towards it though. Castlevania 3 on NES, however, that was absolutely brutal.

I missed out on the earlier games, Castlevania IV was my first experience and it is still one of my favorites. The music is especially great and I like that they really tried to get the most out of the SNES's capabilities. I got Castlevania 3 on the Wii but I had not made it too far, it is a tough one for sure. I was disappointed with the later games becaue they did not incorporate the multi- directional whip control. That was one of the best features in #4.

Yeah. I can understand that. I thought it was good, it just seemed like they kind of went berserk with all the parallax scrolling and what not. I definitely appreciated the multi-directional control of the whip and having much more control over your jump. It's kind of hard going back to the earlier ones after that. Castlevania 3 was a struggle. Just about every screen presented a new hell lol. That's probably my favorite out of all of them though.

Ugh! Crawmerax! My friend and I tried to beat it many a time. You definitely need a group to take it down like a Destiny Raid Boss.

There is supposed to be a way to cheese him by hiding behind a rock or something. I just got Mordi to lv 47 so I got some work ahead of me before I'll be ready to give it a go.

I'll be returning to Borderlands 2 sometime for sure. There's plenty I can do in that game still.
