Totally forgot about todays BaD. Oops! I'm only doing M-F for total of 20. Now you get two blogs combined.

BaD #11 - Resident Evil 4 v Code Veronica

Okay, so Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube is 10 years old this year! The game on Gamecube still holds up, but I also have the PS3 version which is just as good, although I do feel that the HD conversion on PS3 makes the lighting look a bit flat in comparison, but I really can't tell too much. It's just a difference of whether you have a Gamecube with the original game around, or just have access to a digital version on PS3. I also have the Wii version, but umm...motion controls.  I started playing through Code Veronica X on Playstation 2 recently before RE4 and man are the games two different beasts! While I really enjoy Code Veronica, it is much harder than RE4. For starters, I haven't died once in RE4 and I'm almost in Chapter 3, and as cautious as I am, I found myself out of health items and low on ammo soon after I started a new game in Code Veronica. The difference is night and day, but I for one am glad that RE4 exists and it's influence persisted for years. I heard in a podcast recently that RE5 was the highest selling Resident Evil, hmmm... I don't know how I feel about that because for me the best game is still RE Remake, RE4, RE2,3, then 5 and 6. They are so different in mechanics and level design that a comparison would be kind of stupid. Code Veronica is the last of the old gen, and RE4 is still pretty accessible and contemporarry in design that makes it easier to get into. For starters, there are no ink ribbons so you have unlimited saves anytime you reach a checkpoint which there are many and there are ammo drops galore and Leon can kick and stab to conserver precious ammo. Anyhow, the opening level/chapters to RE4 are still the greatest intro to any game really. Pretty great pacing and even the cinematic actions make sense in the game. Still a classic!

BaD12- Jupiter Ascending

Okay. I liked the movie. I didn't hate it, but there is a lot to hate, mainly the acting talent  of Mila Kunis.  Channing Tatum, I don't care for him, but he was competent in this role, mainly because the story doesn't revolve around him and he just shows up to do cool stuff and blow up all the things which is all I was really expecting. I honestly feel like the movie would have been better if it just revolved around him, like Vin Diesel in Riddick, and they completey cut out Mila from the whole thing. In the beginning she's fine as the average girl with shitty life, but when she travels to 'another world' she just isn't emotional or reactive in any way shape or form, at least not in the convincing way she should have to make me care about what was happening to her, and some of the things the 'aliens' are doing is pretty fucked up. I looked at the backgrounds and characters of the Jupiter World and really loved the spacecrafts, wierd ass aliens and robots, except for the reptile creature things. The villain is very cartoonishly bad, no emotion what so ever. Ironically, one of the robot characters is super charismatic like C-3PO but he only appears briefly. Yeah, a minor robot character has more personality than the leads, ouch! So as a space movie where all the things get blowed up and there is cool spaceship action and everything but pretty average story it's like a C+ . I didn't hate it but it was mostly saved due to style which is how most modern action movies are now. Too bad they wasted potential on a cool concept and world. I think it's worth a rental. It's got great action scenes, and if you don't like the story or characters you can view it as a comedy. Cool

My favorite RE is still Code Veronica after all these years.  I like the slow unaction RE games and CV also had a great story.  RE (original or remake) is my 2nd fav.  I didn't like RE 2 or RE3.  They were okay, but I didn't care too much for the stories.  RE4 changed RE in a direction I didn't want the series to go in.  Too actiony.  I really like the sneaking around and finding clues about what happened to the people that were researching for Umbrella.

I agree with this comment completely, but I love RE2.  I never liked RE4, I dunno why.

I honestly don't remember much about RE2 and RE3.  I played them after CV and expected more.  If played sooner, it's possible I'd enjoyed them more.  I still like them more than I like RE4.

I was really impressed by RE2 back in the day.  I played RE when it first came out, and it astonished me, but RE2 was just so huge and less campy, I guess so I like it better.

They are completely different games. I like the actiony games, but they are in a different genre altogether.

I love RE4 but I haven't played it since it came out. I mean to every year but never get around to it Undecided I've never played any of the old REs, though I've always wanted to play the REmake. I was excited about the HD-ified rerelease of that that just came out but then I found out it's not getting a physical releas here and that bums me out. I did play RE5 and while it's a decent game, it never comes close to the level of RE4. It may be the best selling RE game but it sold on it sold on the merits of its predecessor, not its own. I've heard that The Evil Within is a better sequel to RE4 (which makes sense since Mikami directed it).

RE5 probably sold the best because it most resembled the action movies and more people knew about the series because of those. Maybe I don't know.

The most I've seen about Jupiter Ascending is avid's and your posts about it and a Buzzfeed list about how weird it was.

I loved RE4. A great shake up to the series. Unfortunately, it may have brought us to the unfortunate sequels that came out after. Not to say they were bad, but certainly 4 set the precedent.

I love Code Veronica but I agree it is difficult. I had the most bitching time with the tyrant Especially on the plane, ugh, I would cringe whenever I got to that part. RE4 I watched my sister play and while I agree it is a good game I was not as in love with the game as some others because....Ashley. Ugh.....she was annoying. I liked that in RE6 Leons campaign did have the theme and feel to the older games. It felt creepy again on his but slowly from Leons to Chris's it became more actiony.

I like RE4 a lot. Still have my copy of the GameCube version, and I usually make some time to play it when I'm not playing something else.

I have those RE games. Veronica was the first of them on the PS2 I really tried to get into, but just couldn't get into it.

I thought that Jupiter flick sounded terrible, purely judging by the previews so I might just wait a bit for it to show up on the Movie Channels or Netflix.
