Pixlbit Army I know Tuesday can’t hold you back, how are you good people doing? For you East Coasters continue to stay warm. Currently it is a nice 46 degrees here in abnormally warm Sunny Southern California, and today I continue with my Game Library. For today I want to write about my favorite handheld ever, the Playstation Portable. There was a lot of hate towards the Playstation, but I felt it was an awesome handheld that could a number of things, kind of like the preview to the tablets and smart phones we have today. Yes I know Microsoft had a tablet around the same time but seriously who bought that thing? The PSP was my all in one media device, it played games, it played mp3s (this was before my mini-disc and phone that played mp3s), it could play movies…if you converted them to whatever proprietary Sony format, and it could go online. The online portion was rough, like 56k rough. All it was missing was that connecting sound.
I bought my PSP the year it was released. I was working a substitute teacher and it was fun having something to play during recess or that one period in high school that the teachers used to either run errands or smoke. I think I spent $200 for the 1000 series with that small memory stick, and eventually spent another $100 on a 1 GB memory stick. Later on after the 1000 series nub broke I bought a 3000 series for $100 and a 2 GB memory stick for $20. The last memory stick I bought was a 4 GB memory stick…for $20. Yup I was the early adopter who spent a ton of money for 1 GB, when I bought a combined 6 GB for less than a new game. Oh the shame is real. Anyways let’s get to the pictures of my games

Juice 2: I do love racing games and the whole Fast and Furious franchise, so the Juice games were perfect. I actually prefer this game to the original. There is lots of drifting and street racing. Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops: This was the first Metal Gear game I liked on the PSP. It was more traditional Metal Gear than the card game. The card games are the few games I actually returned because I didn’t like them. Me & My Katamari: I love this series and this game plays just like the console version even without the second nub. Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron: I love this universe where you get to roam around as a Storm Trooper…a Storm Trooper who can actually hit a target. Hot Shots Golf Open Tee: This is my favorite golf game. I originally bought the PSP to play Madden, but I sunk more time playing golf. Ultimate Alliance 2: I think I bought this before the PS3 version. I love the gameplay and style of these games, and I wish there were new ones.

Virtua Tennis: This is an awesome tennis game that got insanely difficult on the last game. It was just as good as the Dreamcast game except the one thing I hated was having to upgrade both a male and female created characters at the same time. Wall-E: Usually movie games are terrible, but I actually enjoyed this one. It was also helped that I really liked the movie. The game is a fun little platformer. Star Wars Force Unleashed: This was the first time I played this series and loved the storyline. If anything this should be a spin-off show like Star Wars Rebels.

Harvey Birdman: I’ve never seen the show but the game is funny. I had some problems with I think the 3rd case and stopped playing it. Hammerin’ Hero: This is such a fun platformer. You are this little guy who fights the bad guy with a hammer and eats pieces of sushi for health. Guilty Gear Judgement: I bought this game around the same time as the college football game because I think Circuit City clearance them out for $6. Fun fighting game. Midnight Club LA Remix: This was another one of those games I bought because of the Fast and Furious craze. It was also the first Midnight Club game I ever finished. NBA: I wish the Vita had a dedicated basketball game, but if it did I hope it would only be made by 2K. NBA on the Vita is such a terrible basketball game. I don’t think I played more than a half of basketball on it. 989 made decent football games, in ’98 but everything since was bad.

Puzzle Challenge Crosswords and More: I played a lot of this game, so much that I finished all the crosswords, word searches, and I was 50% done with the random word puzzles. Need for Speed Underground Rivals: This was my second PSP game, and I didn’t complete it until I bought the 3000 series. There was a section of the game where you had to drift around an object while staying in the green area and that always screwed me up. Lumines: This is by far my favorite puzzle game on the PSP. It was such a cool game to play because it was so bright and vivid. I was coming from the Game Gear so this game was light years ahead of anything on there. I don’t know what happened to 2k but after 2K5 their baseball games became trash.

Rock Band Unplugged: This is my favorite Rock Band game and the first game that I bought tons of DLC for. For you folks that played Rock Band Blitz it’s the same concept where you control the drums, bass, vocals, and guitar. Once one section is completed you switch over to another section. I mastered all the Paramore stuff on Hard and the only thing keeping me from finishing the game is the section of the concert tour of playing all the songs back to back. Ridge Racer: I love Ridge Racer but towards the end the races got crazy hard, especially when you are facing the Pac Man car. I don’t know how I beat him, but I did. GTA Liberty City Stories: This was the first and only game I ever reserved. Heck it was the first GTA game I played that I didn’t use codes on. A year or two later someone wrote a program that if you had a softmod PSP you could change the size of the tires on your car, how fast your vehicles could go, and other things. It was always fun to get the game up to 5 stars and then either have you motorcycle jump super high, or go super fast to the point where the screen went white except for you character and when you stopped the graphics would catch up. It had a Matrix vibe. Wolverine: This was another movie game I actually liked. It was quite different from the PS3 version, but I still had fun. Burnout Legends: This took my love for racing games to another level by involving levels where you had to crash other cars. I finished this game and eventually jumped into the PS3 version that I also finished. Blokus Portable: I never heard of this board game but I played a little bit of it in another PSP game so I bought the stand alone version. It’s a fun game especially when trying to place all of your pieces at the end of a game.
GripShift: It was a lunch title that had some promise but I think everyone bought it because this was the game you could originally obtain the softmod on. Wipeout Pure: I was a fan of the Playstation version and this one is just as good. World Series of Poker: I won the Main Event in Las Vegas. Star Wars Battlefront II: I can’t remember if I actually played the PSP version online. I might have considering how much I loved the PS2 online version. It’s the same game as the PS2 just a step down in graphics. Final Fantasy games: I was never into them but I did buy them cheap and I was hoping they would become expensive. I actually tried the first FF Dissidia game because my cousin said it played like a fighting games (lies, lies I tell ya!) I liked the inside cover more than the white cover so I switched it.

When K-Mart wants to move something, they drop the price to $3 bucks.

This is for the original Final Fantasy.

Madden 06: This was my first PSP game. With this game, and the new PSP I spent $250. What I loved about this Madden was that I was able to import my game save from the PS2 via cable to the PSP and continue my Franchise. The one drawback was that if you were using a created team, the PSP would only show your team in a generic NFL white helmet and uniforms. NCAA 07: This was the first edition game with the 4th and inches glitch. Basically if you were at 4th and inches and gained a yard, the game would say that you didn’t convert and place you on defense. EA had an offer to replace the game with a new version if you sent it in. I kept my copy. I bought this game and the PS2 game on the same day at Circuit City. If you bought this game you got a free guide so I have two guides for a game I really don’t need guides for. Patapus: This was such a good flying game and this replaced my disc only copy. I believe I saw Ser’s video on 1Up talking about it and he sold me on the game.

Need for Speed Undercover: I actually like this game more than the console version. These games I didn’t care for because I think they were influenced by Burnout because one of the levels was to crash four police cars and then escape within 5 minutes. I hated these levels because it was tough to crash the police cars. Virtua Tennis 3: I had more fun with this game than the original because you didn’t have to control a male and female characters. Gameplay is still the same but it was a solid game so why change? OutRun 2006: Oh I played a lot of this game, and just like my game on the X-Box, I could never finish the hard track, but I did get close a couple of times. The disc only copy of Bubble Bobble is one I bought recently. While taking pictures for this blog I found that I already own a complete copy of the game. Good thing this game didn’t cost more than a buck.
A year after I bought the PSP, I decided to start buying the PSP UMDs because I wanted to save space on my memory stick for mp3s, TV Shows, and episodes of Sony’s terrible reality show The Tester. The UMD movies were perfect because I could also stream them to my television with a special cable. This cable let me play my PSP games on TV but thick black boarders surrounded it, but for some reason movies were full screen.

Stealth is a terrible movie. I only bought it because of the Wipeout Pure Demo. Speaking of terrible movies, I didn’t like Superbad and I never realized that He-Man was basically a 20-minute commercial for the toys. It didn’t work too well on me because I was a GI Joe kid.

And these are my other flicks. I really enjoyed Jarhead, and this is the only movie I have that I also bought the audiobook.

That UMD with Bobbito was super cheap. He is a playground legend, and I used to enjoy his show on ESPN when he would interview celebs about their sneakers. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the shoes, and it was interesting to listen to him talk about them with the celebs. At the end of the interview he would always give them a pair of kicks that were customized for the celeb.
Well folks that is my Playstation Portable collection. Ok well I really should do something about breakfast because I’m kind of hungry so we shall end out chat right here.
That’s all for now, more tomorrow!
