Alan Wake American Nightmare

Disclaimer:  The following is not nearly as thorough as I would like.  Heck it just turned out to be a blurb so I understand if it seems scattered.  My excuse:  I picked up God of War on Release Day and well American Nightmare is starting to fade out of my brain.

Now on to the task at hand.

What can i say?  I love me some Alan Wake.  I acually purchased American Nightmare last April but for some reason have just now got to it.  I suspect it's the same thing that happened to me with Bioshock 2.  Great game just not exactly ready to dive back into the same game.

For those of you who are not Familiar, Alan Wake is a writer who writes.  No just kidding lol.  But really Alan ends up in this dark world that he has to basically write himself out of.  The "monsters" so to speak react to light like Superman does to Kryptonite.  It is very satisfying to blind them with a flash light then blow them away.

American Nightmare continues Alan's story in the form of a TV episode much like the Twighlight Zone.  There are three main areas to the game:  Hotel, Observatory, and Drive In. Alan is battling against his evil persona who happens to be trying to get rid of him and take over his life.  This part reminds me alot of Stephen King's The Dark Half.  (The book, I've never seen the movie)

This game is well worth the money.  The only gripe I have is that to finish the game you have to go through the 3 main areas three times to get to the end boss battle.  It felt a little like The Legend of Zelda on DS where you have to keep revisiting the Ocean Temple.  BUT at least each segment gets shorter the next time you go through it and the other characters in the game acknowledge "This has happened before".

Anyway I can't get enough Alan Wake.  This may be the one sequal that could get me to buy a new console for the upcoming generation.  It plays like survival horror but it doesn't scare the crap out of you.

I knew about the light mechanic, but not about the writing himself out part. That's cool. Glad you like it.

I HATED the fact the first Zelda DS made you revisit that temple. lol Otherwise good game, but Hourglass could have done less of that. Luckily, Spirit Tracks wasn't near as big an offender with that.

I must be odd.  I've tried Sprit Tracks but found the train thing just boring.  I may have mis spoke about Alan Wake writing himself out.  He changes the story or how reality is already written to write our the evil and change the world back to light......I probably should stop trying to describe it. That sounded worse Tongue Out   ....too much beer with March madness tonight I guess.

don't worry about it, i need more beer. Lol and i actually agree  about the train, but i did appreciate that they toned town the central hub idea since hourglass.

I still need to play Alan Wake. I've had the game since it came out...

You should at least give it a shot for at least an hour.  It's spooky but not really like the typical survival horror.

Oh, I plan to, it's in the "someday I'll get to it" pile, lol.

I was the same way too when i got the game in april. wasn't in the mood to play it just yet. I really wanted to add it to last years HGL of mine but it didn't make the cut that year.

I was kinda glad for the rinse/repate moments. I thought i did osmething wrong when I didn't find all the manuscript pages in the first playthrough. Odd fun fact: whenever I played this game, while downloading demos off XBLA, they would automatically unlock those downloaded games as if I bought them!

I think it's a glitch that I hope they fixed.

The manuscript pages, that is something fun to collect.  I really enjoyed that part of the game, usually I get bored with "collection" challenges.

Cool glitch, wonder if it still works lol.
