I own a GG, but it's mainly just to have one. My wife found it at a garage sale many years ago. I only have one game for it, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I was surprised to find out that it's not a bad game.

Pixlbit what day is it? Yeah sorry I really do like that commercial. Anyways yesterday I went over my love for the PSP and today I figured we keep it with the handhelds and talk about my first new handheld, the Sega Game Gear. I think I got my Sega Game Gear right around the time of my 7th or 8th grade year for my birthday. I didn’t know much about Sega because at the time we were a Nintendo house, but when everyone had the Gameboy I wanted the one with a color screen and single handedly kept Duracell in business (that thing ate batteries). I had that handheld going from 7th or 8th grade all the way up to my freshman year of college when I didn’t have a TV yet so at night before I went to sleep I would play a game or two Madden. I had maybe 6 or 7 games total on the handheld. For a long while this was my favorite handheld. I bought a couple of different cases (the official Sega one was crap, so I went with a padded Case Logic or something similar), and thanks to Walmart’s Clearance endcap I bought a 3rd party battery pack that screwed into the back of the handheld. This was better than the Official battery.
Mortal Kombat: Yes the slimmed down version wasn’t too bad. I do remember that it had a code to add the blood and you only had six characters. I believe I did complete the game with all characters and with a little help from a code magazine, and I used all the fatalities. Sports Trivia: I bought my original copy from a Blockbuster Video. They had a bin next to the candy with random used games, and new Game Gear games for $5. This was the only Game Gear game there along with a bunch of used Genesis carts which looking back I should have bought. The game is setup like a football game where a running play was an easy question, short yard pass was a medium question, and a long bomb was a hard question. The questions covered all sports so it kept me entertained. The reason why I have two is because when Game Crazy was blowing them out for .99 I went to one store and bought all their remaining games, which was like maybe 8 or 9. I didn't want to leave this one as the one game there so I bought it too. Aladdin: I think this might have been a K-Mart clearance game, and I did enjoy it. It was around five levels of running from left to right dodging barrels and escaping the enemy. Think of it as a side-scrolling runner. Columns: I used to borrow this from my friend my freshman year of high school. I loved that it made bus rides short, because our bus lady was a freaking tyrant. Pac-Man: Yeah all the arcade goodness you love in a handheld. I think the furthest I ever got into the game was like four or five mazes in just to see if there was an end, but I think it just recycled puzzles. I’m not sure because it’s been a long time since I played this game.
Madden 96: Looking back this game was terrible because there was no official licensed teams. Anyways I played a bunch of it during my first Semester at SDSU because I didn’t buy a TV until maybe November. I used the Dallas team because they had a red and black helmet like the Aztecs. Sonic 2: This was my first game and I played the hell out of it. I completed the story countless times, I earned all but maybe one or two chaos gems, and did that hack where you hit buttons 1, 2, Up and Start at the same time as Tails’ second blink. I think it was for a level select or something. Oh gaming magazines, I learned a lot from you. NBA Jam TE: I bought this I want to say my Senior Year of high school. I remember walking the 3 miles to K-Mart to buy this game for $13 on clearance. I loved the original but didn’t own it yet so this was the next best thing. If NBA Jam was on the NES, it would look like this game. Columns: I have no idea how I have a second copy of it. I must have bought it thinking that I needed a copy of it. World Series Baseball: One summer I played through an entire season…three times. All 162 Regular Season games plus the playoff and World Series games. I won the World Series with the Angels, Padres, and the Blue Jays. The graphics were like RBI Baseball, but again I didn’t care because it was fun. Also if you threw the ball up and in the AI would always swing and miss. I think there was also a pattern in pitching so you could hit Home Runs but that is one thing I can’t remember. Sonic The Hedgehog: My first time playing this game, I borrowed from a friend in high school during Thanksgiving break, and proceeded to spend that time trying to pass the game. I think I eventually did and didn’t buy it years later when GameCrazy had their sale.
I forgot I did this but my mom bought me these sticker sheets with my name on them and they fit perfectly on my Game Gear cases. The one positive about my Game Gear games is that the games I originally owned still have their plastic cases. I should go searching online to buy replacements for the others. As for my original Game Gear, wear and tear has hit it hard. The speaker is bad on it, and I think the screen might flicker. I bought a beat up one from a thrift store for $1.99 and it has no battery covers but the screen is fine and I think the speaker might be ok as well.
Anyways Pixlbit that’s my Sega Game Gear library.
That’s all for now, more tomorrow!
