Lego nerd.
Way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I started buying legos, there weren't any merchandising tie-ins and the people were actually built entirely out of Lego bricks.

Happy Friday Pixlbit! Another week is almost in the books and I am ready to hit the local music store this weekend (unless I get sidetracked by a nap.) So how has this week treated you good folks? Anything fun planned this weekend? I am currently trying to read through a bunch of blogs you good folks have posted so if my comments are a wee bit late, sorry. Anyways since it is Friday it is my favorite blog of the week, Quick Hits. Yes I watched a bunch of shows, bought some stuff, and other fun randoms. Let’s get started!
Chris Watches…
Arrow
This week Ollie and Thea go back to the island to train, but what they don't know is that Thea's dad decided to make training interesting and release Slade aka Deathstroke. As much as I like Slade, he needs to let go of Shado already. Dude is on some serious crusade for a girl who built him a house in the Friendzone. Also what is up with the whisper talk? Hand him a freaking throat lozenge. I think the best part of this episode is the flashback to Oliver in Starling where he sees Thea, kills her drug dealer, and he gets his first glimpse of Felicity who is good ol’ Felicity over a picture of Ollie. From what I read online and how this story is developing, there is going to be some good stuff leading into the season finale. There are nine episodes left before we get to this point so the journey is going to be fun.
I also thought about buying the digital comic Arrow 2.5, which from what I have read takes place between the end of Season 2 and right before the start of Season 3 where Ollie and Felicity have their first date. I think Barnes and Noble offers each issue for a buck. I might just head out to the local comic book store and get the physicals this weekend (if that nap doesn’t sidetrack me)
Vanderpump Rules
I seem to enjoy this show when its on a Bravo Marathon, and that is how I got caught up with the crazy folks from SUR Restaurant. This season has been much of the same drama from the usual suspects, which all leads up to a firing of one of the main cast members, and there is a big wedding. This is easily my favorite of the trashy reality shows that I watch because it has all the flash of older MTV shows with the slick transitions and hip music, along with tons of pretty people.
MTV Real World Skeletons
This week’s episode the housemates get a new Skeleton. The buildup made it seem like there was going to be some sort of fight between Bruno and his brother…and nothing happened. The big news was that Bruno and his brother lost their grandfather and he didn’t want anyone to know. Fine, I get that, it was a personal matter, but what gets me is that he decides to spend the day with the roommates and gets annoyed because they become drunken fools. Seriously has he not noticed where he is currently living?
He proceeds to lash out and overall act the fool. I’m sorry but you know you have a temper, why not just stay home. Say you’re sick. Instead he goes, lashes out against everyone and is willing to fight everyone. Yeah I don’t care how you were brought up, you are an adult, act like one instead of being a clown. This is the same guy who flipped out because his roommates ate his cheeseburger. As much as I like trashy TV, this isn’t it. Dude has no control. You know he’s going to end up on The Challenge and I can’t wait to see him try this stuff against the heavyweights there instead of a female roommate.
Agent Carter
As we get closer to the Series Finale, the main plot to the story has been revealed and it is time for the drama to lead up to the big battle between good and evil. I have to say I really enjoyed this mini series. It had moments where it was slow but finally Agent Carter has shown that she is a solid leading character along with some familiar names, and a background storyline that involves a certain Captain. You can add Agent Carter along with Agents of SHIELD, and Arrow as TV shows that I want to see turned into Lego sets.
There’s Lego News…
I think it was last week or the week before Lego announced that there will be two new lines based off movies and one based off a cartoon
Lego Avengers
A couple of weeks ago I posted a link about the new Lego Avenger Helicarrier and its $300 price tag. The Hellicarrier is part of the Ultimate Collectors Series, which are bigger more detailed models than the regular retail editions. These sets are nice but a bit expensive (and by bit I mean really expensive) plus they take up a lot of space. I’m more in the I like the minifigures and sets camp, so I stay away from these sets. Anyways there have been images of the new sets coming from Lego, the New York Toy Fair
and other fan sites. The sets are going to hit the shelves on March 1st but apparently a store called Meijer is already selling them. Congrats to the folks who got these sets early! I really want the Hulkbuster, new Quinjet, and the Avengers building. If Walmart drops the Clearance price of the Tony Stark Mansion I could add another floor to that Avengers building.
Lego Jurassic World
I’m actually excited for this one because I bought a couple of the Lego Dino sets a couple of years ago, so I can use those sets with these new sets. I can have two T-Rex figures trashing Lego town and all that jazz. Anyways this looks like its going to be a solid run and this will be Chris Pratt’s third minifigure made by Lego (his other two are Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy, and Emmit from The Lego Movie…EVERYTHING IS AWESOME. Sorry that song is now stuck in your head.) For Jurassic World I’ll probably only buy the sets that seem the most interesting and has the T-Rex.
Lego Scooby Doo
I’m buying these sets strictly for the minifigures. From what people are saying Shaggy will be in practically every set, so hopefully if I buy one of the bigger sets I can get the rest of the characters in one shot. My younger cousins are huge Scooby Doo fans and as a joke I asked them if the characters have last names. Apparently they do. Who knew.
Randoms
My friend and I have this running joke that Aquaman is by far the most useless superhero*
*Before the hate comes in, we don’t read comics, everything we know about him is through the television so relax and besides the only Aquaman I know of is Vincent Chase.
Anyways we like to make fun of him and this popped up on Reddit
And when I bought a certain set with a minifigure I sent my friend this picture of the one Superhero who doesn’t get any run in my Lego universe
The set I bought with this Aquaman was a Batman set where Artic Batman had to save Aquaman who was trapped in ice. Well last night while browsing through Reddit I saw the new Aquaman for the Batman/Superman movie
Khal Freaking Drago from Game of Thrones is now Aquaman. I guess Aquaman is now a badass.
Aztec Sports
Aztec Basketball is ranked again. It feels good to be back in the Top 25. The last game the Aztecs played they traveled to New Mexico and beat them down. The sad part was this was their first sellout of the season and the place was empty with a couple of minutes left
Its about time that the offense is finally clicking to add to the suffocating defense because early on in the season the running joke was the first team to 40 was going to win.
Aztec Baseball made some changes to the wall outside of Tony Gwynn Stadium
(I borrowed this from Twitter...and brightened up the wall a little bit)
Instead of previous years where the wall had the lists of various record holders for SDSU Baseball, it honors the three players who had their number retired: Stephen Strasburg, Tony Gwynn, and Travis Lee. I’m shocked Mark Grace didn’t have his number retired. Anyways Aztec Baseball is 5-0 and I am hoping they make another run at the post season to continue our streak of the only school who’s Football team went to a bowl, Basketball in the NCAA Tournament, and Baseball in the Post Season in back to back years.
Aztec Women’s Golf posted a video on YouTube and from what I heard it got picked up by Good Morning America
Cool trick shots by our Women’s Team.
Pickups
Games
I love playing games on the iPad and I always say that if there is a good game available, I’d be willing to spend a couple of bucks.
I spotted this game in the App Store and from watching the video and reading the description it sounded like a new version of Wipeout. I’ve been playing this non-stop since last night and I am really enjoying this game. I’ll talk more about it on Monday but so far it is a steal at $4.
I had some Club Nintendo coins to get rid of so I went with a couple of games I’ve been eyeing along with a freebie. The two games were 150 coins each, and were better options than any game at the 300 coin level
I bought Super Mario Land 2, because a couple of months ago I picked up Super Mario Land for 150 coins. Why not have both games?
Out of the rest of the available Gameboy games I wanted to try Metroid II. Hopefully there isn’t a section of the game where I have to plant a bunch of bombs so I can reach a high platform because that is where I got stuck in the NES game.
On Slickdeals I saw that IGN was offering this game for free
I haven’t tried it out yet, but it is currently sitting on my iPad waiting to be played.
eBooks
On Google Play this month’s freebie book is one that I already read but its nice to have in the collection anyways
If you haven’t read the three Hunger Games books, I read through them within a week. Funny thing is, I still haven’t seen the movies yet I own the first one.
Toys
A couple of days ago it was a big Lego day for me as I finally picked up a set I’ve been wanting for a while along with some surprises.
I bought this set at Toys R Us, but I had them price match Target which was $10 less. Target sells Lego at actual Retail price while Toys R Us adds what people call the “Toys R Us Tax.” I’m slowly building up the DC figures so I can have them fight my Marvel figures in one nerdy battle. I’m thinking of having this occur during the Battle of Hoth. My favorite character from this set is this guy
If I can find some green arms, and a green hood, we’re switching him from comicbook Green Arrow to TV Show Green Arrow. I just need to make a Felicity and Diggle minifigs.
Also while I was at Toys R Us, I’ve been watching the Lego Castle minifig set because it dropped to $7.98 a while back. I was hoping it would drop again before I bought them, and it dropped to $4.98!
I bought all 11 boxes they had to combine with the five boxes I bought when they were released, so now I have a good sized army for when I decide to make Lego Kings Landing. I should use that venue for the Marvel vs. DC fight as well.
Alright Pixlbit I am off. Hopefully today I either go back to the Fair to eat some BBQ or go watch Kingsman...if I don't get sidetracked by a nap.
That’s all for now, more later!

Arrow features a villain being friendzoned? Not sure how I feel about that.
I need to watch Agent Carter, but at this point I'll just marathon it when it inevitably comes out on a streaming service.
They're calling the new Aquaman Broseidon, apparently.
Last time SFA Men's B-Ball blew someone out, I left early. Might not have if I were with friends, but a bit awkward to sit by yourself in a blowout game. At least when it's close, you can blend in with the screaming and cheering.
I'm not a fan of early Metroid, but I never played II more than a couple minutes.
Do you agree with Richard Sherman that The LEGO Movie was robbed for not being Oscar nominated?
Yeah the storyline was that they saved this girl named Shado and she fell for Ollie. Slade was a bit bitter but didn't go crazy guy until the middle of the 2nd season. At some point dude needs to calm down.
Agent Carter would be a good binge watch over a weekend. I'm a bit bummed that there isn't going to be anymore but I'm ready to get back into Agents of SHIELD.
Hopefully at some point I'll actually finish a Metroid game. I own a couple of them but I always got stuck on something dumb.
I kind of like going to sporting events solo. I get to wear headphones so I can listen to play by play, and not have to worry about other folks getting hungry, bored, etc. Of course it's always fun going with someone so you can talk trash and just enjoy the athmosphere.
As for Lego Movie, I thought it was good, but it wasn't as great as everyone says it is. There were some slow parts and I think the Oscars are too uppity when it comes to fun movies.
I think Lego did a great job on the Avengers and Justice League sets. Lots of cool minifigs and some nice sets are available. It would be nice if all the figures available in the video games were available to purchase (and not the Chinese knockoffs I seem to find at the swapmeet)
