2.27.15 First Blog of 2015 (It's Been A While)

Hello all, it's been a while since I sat down and wrote a blog. Just been super busy with work, trying to find a new vehicle I would like to buy and also house shopping as well. And started dating a wonderful woman. I have been checking in on the site to keep up with news and reading blogs, I comment as much as I can. So with my very limited gaming time, here is what I have been up to:
Games Beat
Grand Theft Auto V (Playstation 4)
I finally beat this game, it took me a while, lol. I had started playing it in December! I just haven't had much time is my excuse. This game is now my favorite Grand Theft Auto game (Vice City previously held that title). The heist are definitely the highlight of the game, it's almost like Ocean's Eleven in the sense that you put together a crew, get all necessary materials/ items/ vehicles and then execute. You have different options as far as means and methods which is pretty awesome. I always went the "quiet" route and tried to avoid huge gunfights; to me it seemed like a bigger accomplishment to rob without places realizing they were being robbed.
I think that Michael was my favorite character of the three. Trevor was batshit crazy as well and his scenes were always entertaining. Especially when you would switch to him and the situations he was in when you became him were funny and crazy at times. Franklin's missions were ok and sometimes annoying (i.e. Lamar).
The visuals on Playstation 4 were gorgeous. My brother walked in when I was playing it and ask me "Is this Grand Theft Auto?" and he was telling me it looked awesome visually. Gameplay was great, I liked the first person option even though I didn't use it too much. This was my first run through the game so maybe that will be an option later (yea right, hello backlog, lol). Awesome game, I recommend if you like the series.
Currently Playing
Portal (Playstation 3)
I am waiting for some of my purchases to arrive still, so I figured I would finally play Portal while I wait and knock off some of my backlog. I haven't play Half Life 2 or the episodes either but I don't think I want to play those yet, Portal will suffice for now. I think I am on the 9th room so far (just started last night). I don't like puzzle games that much which is why I have put it off so long. I think the game is ok, it gets a lot of compliments about it's humor, I think it's decent but not hilarious. I just hate puzzles and if I get stuck, right to Google I'll go, lol. But it looks good and I am making my way through it (unassisted so far). Hopefully I will have it complete this weekend.
Recent Purchases
It's been almost three months since I wrote a blog so I purchased a fair amount of games in the meantime. One thing about me is that I prefer physical copies to digital almost exclusively unless it is a PS+ game or something that is not offered in physical form. So my purchases in the last three months:
Metroid Trilogy (Wii) - I waited until Nintendo put this up for sale digitally that weekend and then hit eBay and Amazon because I knew there were probably those looking to dump their physical copy. I got it for $30, worth it in my opinion. I have a difficult time navigating the Wii online store anyways so that just wasn't an option for me. Plus my internet sucks because I live in a rural area.
The Order: 1886 (PS4) - I am a bit of a Sony fanboy, I will admit it. I heard all the discussion of this game's length and how people seem to like harping on it. I bought it for two reasons; 1) the visuals/ story looked awesome and 2) I like to support Sony on games they will take chances on, otherwise we will always get the same stuff from them. I am excited to play through it even though it won't be very long, maybe that's a good thing for my backlog.
Evolve (PS4) - I watched a lot of streams of this game being played and not to mention I am a huge Left 4 Dead fan. This game seems different enough and also just fun. Giant Bomb's stream of this game made it look awesome and also the premise of unlocking other characters within classes is pretty awesome.
Punch Out (Wii) - Same case here as Metroid Prime Trilogy. I managed to get this game for $10. At that price I couldn't pass it up, it easily goes for 3x that. I need the physical copy! lol. This is a game I see myself sitting and enjoying between other gaming sessions.
Rayman Legends (PS4) - Amazon marked this game down for a day and I jumped on it. It seems like this game always sells fast when it is put on sale. I loved Origins so I know I will like this game too.
Digital Purchases
Resident Evil (PS4) - I have never played the REmake so I was happy that it was announced for the PS4/Xbone. Look forward to this game.
Jackbox Party Pack (PS4) - Giant Bomb loved this game. I became interested in it and ended up buying it. I have played 3 or 4 times with friends, Drawful is easily the best of the bunch.
Shadow Warrior (PS4) - This was on sale for $6 on PSN, so I just bought it. That seemed about the right price.
Playstation Plus games - Rouge Legacy (PS4/PS3), Transistor (PS4), Injustice: Gods Among Us (PS4), Infamous: First Light (PS4), The Swapper (PS4/PS3), DuckTales: Remastered (PS3), Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut (PS3), Luftrausers (PS3), Prototype 2 (PS3), Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition (PS3), Thief (PS3), Yakuza 4 (PS3).
Playstation Plus has been giving away so many games that I cannot keep up. Getting Deadly Premonition was awesome because I don't think that's a game I would buy, but having the opportunity to experience it is cool. So happy that Rouge Legacy was given away, I own it for PC and I wanted it for PS3/PS4 really bad; I like it a lot more on consoles. Transistor was also a pretty nice giveaway since I didn't really have any interest in it and now I have a chance to try it risk free.
Conclusion
I have a bit of a rant; lately I have been pretty frustrated with PC gaming, in fact I am giving up on it entirely until a point to be determined. I just hate how some stuff runs weird on my rig, some doesn't have controller support and others won't run with my OS properly. Others I have to go into the [ini] or [exe] files and make some modifications to make them run correct or in full screen. Controller support is vital to me because I refuse to play games with a keyboard and it is hit and miss with games. Some games support it partially and the controls seem wonky and weird and others I have to use a JoyToKey type of app that maps keyboard buttons to the controller with also is pretty weird and imprecise. I mean yeah games are cheaper on PC, but that’s the trade off I am seeing now is that you have to put work into some games to have the proper experience. I will give it to PC that games look awesome, but what good is a game that is pretty but you can hardly control it? I get some really weird cases like that of Geometry Wars (a pretty simple game) will bog down with too much stuff on screen but Skyrim will run perfect 60fps no matter what; how the hell does that happen? For the foreseeable future I am sticking to console gaming; just pop the game in and go. It really gets on my nerves though cause I dropped a lot of money on my PC rig. Now I have an expensive internet/ email browser, lol.
Anyways, I cannot believe it's going to be March already, E3 will be here before we know it, can't wait. I am super curious what is in the works that we don't know about already. That's all I have for now, I will try to get another blog out earlier than every 3 months, just have had a lot on my plate lately. I will be checking in and reading everyone's stuff though when I can. Thank you everyone for reading.
