2012's Disappointment

I have been holding off on this particular blog. I havent a clue why I just have. My biggest disappointment in 2012 was SC5. For those who doesnt know what that stands for, Its Soul Calibur 5. That game showed just how much game developers have this crazy fucking Idea that everybody loves online gaming. Why? Because they fucked over the offline modes but yet did their damn best to make sure everyone loved the online part! This shit is what really rubs me the wrong fucking way with games now a days because while I will play games online with people online, Im use to being by myself. Let me go into further detail on the offline mode of the game. You weill see what Im talking about. The story mode for the game had you only play as 3 characters yet they gave opening story lines to all the characters they put in it. To top it off you didnt even see barely any of those characters! There just there to use to play online with and play that Legendary Souls mode which is a bitch to even mess with. I know SC4 got a lot of negative crap said about it but SC4 was better then SC5 and thats kind of scarey. Were suppose to go forward, not backwards. The excuse they gave for why story mode and all turned out the way it did "We were in a rush to meet our release date".....I would have been perfectly fine if they had just announced they needed to push the release date back and take more time. I would rather have a good game then a disappointment. I expected so much more from what I read on it up to its release date. I spent over $80 on it because I bought the Limited Edition verison. I wanted to bash my head into a wall after I played story mode and found out that was pretty much it. I wont lie, I would rather see the SC series die then get another let down.

I'll give SC5 2 compliments, the character creation mode was def an improvement. If there was one fun thing it was creating characters. Fighting wise with the characters wasnt bad either. Thats about it though. Feel free to share your 2012 disappointment in the comments!

I haven't played 5, but I enjoyed 4, mostly because of character creation. I think character is a big deal for fighters.  That sucks though that the story mode is so lame, a lot of people enjoy a deep story mode in fighting games.  I will probably stay away from this game.

Story is actually one of the things that hooked me to the SC series when I played 2 and 3. For it to get cut down like its nothing in 5 was jsut a shocker. I thought they would have known better than that. I enjoyed 4, a lot of people I know didnt but I had fun with it.

I played some early builds and like SFxT felt better than the end result, I was thinking of buying it since i haven't truely played SC since 2.Frown

If you do buy it, make sure its for super cheap. That game was way not worth the 80 I gave for it. I mean the extras were nice but hell the game was horrid. You prolly can find it cheap on gamestop or glyde. I miss playing SC 2 and 3.

I saw right away SC5 had many flaws. The expanded "create a character mode" looked fun but everything else seemed very stripped down and minimalistic. I liked SC4,though! It's probably tied with SC2 as my favorite in the series.

I really thought by what they were saying about it that it was gonna be a fantastic game but I sure as hell was proved wrong. They really didnt full fill on a lot of things they said they was gonna do. I personally loved 3. I loved the character creation story mode they did in it. That game had a lot to do in it and it kept me busy a good while.  I like SC4, I actually have it on my to buy list at the moment.

That sucks. I wish developers wouldn't put so much emphasis on online play. I can see how it's important in fighting games, but there are people that enjoy playing through the single player. I was disappointed with Diablo 3 having always online DRM bullcrap. Luckily there was Torchlight 2 to soften the blow.

I miss the times before online play gained a big popularity. The offline modes didnt suffer quite as much but now thats jsut a whole different story. I kind of hope they learned in the direction of SC though. The official SC5 page had to stop people from making comments on the page because of all the negative things that were posting about it. I hope that gave them a good eye opener. I never got into diablo 3 but I know ur pain to some degree.

Theres so many games now days thats rushing there release and just making a good game bad and not just SC series either they have a promised release date and fall behind and instead of doing the right thing and delaying the game they rush it out the door EA is known for doing this, at any rate more and more games are forgetting what made there games popular in the first place, which is storymode I personally dont care for online play im a lone gamer and like it that way and if these companys want to screw us loners so they can kater to the online games so be it but the will be doing it without my $60.

You can add me to that as well because I certainly wont be handling over a bunch of my money again for a shitty game. SC5 taught me a nice big lesson there. Im a loner type gamer too. I dont mind playing with people of course jsut playing by myself doesnt bother me at all. Im really hopeing they kick this online playing dsrug problem soon, its killing a lot of games out there.

Shame, I loved SC2. I like playing games single player as well, so the huge shift to online focus doesn't sit well with me.

I liked SC2, its what brought me into the SC world but I love SC3. Yes it had a glitch that pissed you off to no end but the endless content it seemed to keep you busy with was always a good thing for me. Your certainly not alone, the shift is def not sitting good with me at all. I dont mind it on some games but those games worked well both single player wise and online wise.

Soul Calibur 4 had better single player modes, but SC5 had a better character creation mode.  I really liked both games!  I had a lot of fun creating characters!  I think I did that more than fighting!

A few of my friends did that the most with SC5, they created characters and they literally kept their copy of the game to do jsut that. While that can be fun it jsut wont always keep me interested so its not really worth keeping around. I however MIGHT buy SC5 for a severally low price some time in the future. If I do however it will be jsut to mess with character creation and maybe have a few friendly fights with people I know.

To me, the highest point in the Soul Calibur games was 2, I wasn't interested in it till I saw Link and thought that I must own this game. Glad I got it, it's my other favorite fighter next to Smash Bros, I still think 2 is the best. Skipped 3 because I didn't have a PS2 and/or XBox.

4 is one I got when I first got my PS3, well I got it before I got a PS3. I loved 4, what I loved the most was the character creator thing, it was nice but sucks you couldn't use Star Wars stuff for your characters. I may give 5 a shot if I find it cheap and only because the character creator is better than 4's. And I don't think I had any 2012 dissapointments, other than not buying all the games I wanted that year.

SC2 was a good game, it sucks you missed 3 though. It was a pretty good game, Ive been kind of hopeing they would do a HD collection for both the games but fat chance that shall happen. I remember playing as mister Link, he was awesome to use...not to mention I whooped my sister ass using him and he is one of her fave characters...so bonus points there for SC2.
