Preaching to the choir about Anita Sarkeesian.
Have fun at PAX East. I forgot about it until it was too late. Pretty sad, because I only live about two and a half hours away from Boston and could have taken the train down.

In today's blog, The Original Ser starts getting ready to get down in Boston. Oh, and a rant.
*****
It wasn't easy, oh no. Not easy at all to work today. In fact, I was down right defeatist about it. It was a hopeless, uphill battle that ultimately left my meager enthusiasm utterly annihilated. But I made it through my shift regardless. With a headache, but at least it's done.
PAX East is going to be pretty good this year, I think. Well, as good as it can be with only my Nikon D-3100, my four-year-old netbook and a small digital recorder (which is admittedly pretty awesome). But wait, there's more.
The old girl still gots it. I hope.
See, I registered for something called Buttoneering this year, and while I won't have so many buttons, it makes the ones I'm going to have pretty rare. Like a rare limited-edition collector's item. My wife (Daeruna) will have many more, since she's going for funsies. And if someone approaches me with her button or vice versa, they get the bonus Team Düo button. You might be able to pick out our designs from this lot.
Speaking of rare collectors items, "wat tha fak" about the Pikachu Yellow 3DS XL, eh!? Apparently there's a whole six (literally!) allocated to the whole Halifax region for preorders and, uh... that's it. And they're all preordered. Welp, that's a no-go for me now, 'innit?
Actually, hold on. That tiny beef reminds me that I have a much bigger beef. Yeah, it's that Anita Sarkeesian thing. I watched the video and came away feeling miffed. Not just because her subject matter is ultimately a one-sided, skewed rant. No, there was also a serious problem with her production. I wondered, often aloud, "Hey, where did all the Kickstarter money actually go?" With $160,000, I could make a person's head explode through creative visual panache alone and still have $150,000 left to vaporize the rest of them with sheer awesomeness. And I'm just one guy*! (*"Guy" meaning "person", not "Man".)
Just imagine if I had a hand-picked team of equivalently skilled assistants at my disposal. With $160,000 I easily could, and god damn, would it be incredible.
Meanwhile, Tropes vs. Women in Video Games falls severely flat, feeling more like a long, drawn-out sermon - seemingly designed to guilt the male population who watches it into some kind of matriarchal submission - with plain sound and a drab visual presentation. I won;t be watching the rest of it. Simply put, it's garbage. Yeah, I went there. And yeah, I could definitely do (and have already done, according to some,) better with next to no capital at all.
But the thing that really bothers me is that her videos - literally paid for by a specific audience - are entirely censored via comments and ratings being disabled. There's no rebuttal, no counterpoints, just what she says and that's it. I'm sorry, but uh, no. Big faux-pas. Doing that essentially invalidates any argument she could make, since there's no way to challenge or correct any of her (seemingly-numerous) misinformed judgements.
Not that it means much coming from a "pig" like me though, right?
Oink-oink, binches.

Out of curiosity, where do you work? And still jealous about PAX East.
And I won't comment on Sarkeesian, except to say no, it didn't require that money. In fairness, her goal was $6,000 which is a lot more reasonable. Assuming she bought a higher-end prosumer camera (can get in the $3000s new, depending on model), the latest Final Cut Pro ($1000+), and let's assume she's incredibly dumb and bought a Chyron for those over the shoulder graphics and an oversized green screen, $6,000 in't bad, but it's still not necessary to do ... that.
Fuck my Magna Cum Laude Radio/Television degree even harder, I should have just got on Kickstarter.
Saw the video on YouTube. What an enigma she is. She does make some good points I think. But for 160,000 bucks? She should be astride a unicorn firing a laser weapon! What the hell was that? Do plaid shirts really cost that much? I love how comments were disabled on the video. The torrent of hate that came her way over that was mind boggling.
