Nintendo is Trolling GamerGate

So if you haven't heard, Codename STEAM is not the most popular game amongst gamergaters. Why? Because it has washed up has been from a popular sci-fy show Will Wheaton voicing Abraham Lincoln, whom to those of you who wisely ignored this controversy, has spoken against it. And by spoken against it, I meant the typical way of doing so in the most insufferable way possible where pretty much everyone not blinded by a hatred of the controversy wants him to shut up.

But GG isn't the only side pissed off at Nintendo over this game. The anti-GG side is voicing outrage at another washed up has been from a popular sci-fy show, Adam Baldwin, of Firefly fame who also coined the term "Gamergate." You know, the Baldwin who no one remembers like Alec, but actually did some good stuff unlike the other Baldwins.

Now, say what you want about Nintendo of America, but they're a smart company. And let's be honest, like or hate GG, everyone in this industry knows what GG is about. Most companies aren't even bothering with it because they have something called common sense, because, well, let's just see how Tim Schafer is handling picking a side

Anyways, Nintendo should know that Will Wheaton and Adam Baldwin are each hated by opposite sides of this controversy. I mean, I barely have a reason to care about GG and I notice. So could they actually, in their own passive way, be taking a stand against both sides here? Where they're saying how maybe we should just get over our differences, be nice to each other, and take the time to focus on more important matters like Abraham Lincoln fighting aliens in a steam powered robot suit?

I like to think they are. And I'll take it one step further: Nintendo, as the creator of Nintendogs, has heard my pleas to end all this toxicity and meanness amongst the internet and are supporters of my movement: #PuppyGate.

A movement originally created to end any GG discussion, but is now a more important matter. Any time someone is an asshole on the internet, shift the conversation to posting pictures of puppies. If this person is worth knowing, they will drop the conversation. If not, never talk to them again. Because why would you want to change the subject from puppies? And I'm sick of people being mean to solve problems. Why can't something nice like puppies solve problems?

So even though I started PuppyGate as a joke, I recommend using it. Because worst case scenario, people see more pictures of puppies being adorable.

I'm siding with the puppies.

Wil Wheaton.  Phew!  Haven't heard about him in a long time.

Pardon my ignorance, I've heard about this Gamersgate thing, but what's the fuss about it if I may ask? I haven't been on twitter for along time (especially most of the half of last year) and I'm just curious. Also, puppies. You can't hate on puppies.

First off, I envy you. SO MUCH. But basically, GG is saying how video game review and news sites are corrupt and giving attention and awards based on who people know rather than merit. Which there is proof of them doing this. The press (or anti-GG) is going on about how GG is just harassing women. And there's tons of people who do harass everyone in GG. But that's true for both sides and the internet as a whole, even if it is more common in GG. Though you could make the argument that trolls are just using they'll get off scott free knowing everyone will just blame GG. So everyone's being an asshole to each other on the internet now.

Either way, both sides suck, but one has a good point that is, in the worldwide scheme of things, pretty unimportant (ethics in games journalism) while the other has a shitty point about something we really need to work on (harassment and tolerance of differing opinions).

Well, they probably both had their voices recorded for the game pre-Gamer Gate, but I think the presence of both of them certainly works out in favor of puppies.

I like kittens too, though.

Here's to kittens and puppies getting along:

I doubt that actually for a few reasons. First, the game is Japanese developed, which would put American voice acting as one of the last priorities for the team. They'd be focusing on the Japanese voices, with NoA filling in for our area when the game was done, especially since there's no lip synching. Considering GG has lasted seven months, and the two month window when a game is done, but not released, that's still a large time frame for them to pick these voice actors. They could have easily picked them in Sept (when these two were at their peak in this shitstorm), had them record in Oct, and implemented it the rest of the year.

Fair enough. That timeline makes sense.

But I will keep preaching for kitten/puppy equality. Tongue Out

I'm too busy enjoying games and reviewing them to even mess with that GamerGate stuff.

Every blog I write is puppy gate, and I bring the pics to prove it. When I actually blog that is. Been a few months.

I'm with you. My new twitter hashtag for this trivial bullshit is #WhoTheFuckCares and #GetARealLife. :)

I watched the Codename STEAM twitch broadcast yesterday that had Wil Wheaton as a guest, and unfortunately I can't find the archived footage of it, but those last words of his (Wil Wheaton) now make sense.

"Just play the game, and don't be a Dick". I'm not too sure if he said "just play games" or "just play the game", but he did say "don't be a Dick".

I'm technically involved in GG and most the people I interact with don't really care much about this. Maybe there are some that do, but I'm not sure if it's a majority of them or not. I'm interested in the game, doesn't bother me in the slightest who's involved or not.

Adam Baldwin is not related to Alec, and is a veteran character actor who has been in films and TV regularly since the early 80s. Hardly washed up or a has been.

Ah, my bad on the relationship. But I have looked at the dude's careenotams while he's been in some great stuff (Full Metal Jacket especially), he's not exactly thriving right now. Not Will Wheaton bad and could change things with a new role, but not that good right now

Gamergate is still a thing?! SMGDFH.

Lincoln in Code Name Steam explains the Honest Abe special Mii I got the other day. I think. I still don't understand what the controversy is over Abe being in Code Name Steam. Is it that Will Wheaton did a bad job of it, or is Abe, as a bad-ass robot, not cool. It sounds cool to me.

Not that Will Wheaton did a bad job, that he's an asshole in real life.

I'm down with PuppyGate.  Heck, I just bought a puppy last year...I ought to be down with it.

I just chalked it up to an odd coincodence. I doubt they put that much thought into it given the maddness that is GamerGame, on either side.
