So glad you Included the Last Story here. It had some amazing start menu music.
I second the rental sentiment. I've been hoping my local redbox would get it, but no luck so far. Might end up passing on it, unless I can stumble upon a wild Blockbuster somewhere, lol.
Though Sakurai is not really discussing DLC at the moment, the fact that he is endorsing the idea of patches gets me to hope he might consider DLC characters as well. Then again, this IS Nintendo, so we just have to wait and see.
:(
well if anything, the Boxing ring stage does lead me to think Little Mac will be playable.
Personally, Im all for interesting, unexpected character picks. BUT given that theres no guarantee that everyone from the past games will return, plus the large roster of characters nintendo already has, it has me a bit worried that some characters might get the shaft for someone like Wii Fit Trainer. Its no big deal, but its a concern.
And I too would like to see another 3rd party character. My money is on Pac Man, but I'd MUCH rather have Lloyd in the game or something. Pac Man would be kinda dull imo. Lloyd would be a great fit, but i think ToS, despite its popularity, is a bit too outside what Sakurai is going for with this one.
Julian definitely hones in on a lot of the strengths and weaknesses of The Last of Us. Where I differ in opinion is in terms of the combat. I felt it was stressful at points, but I feel that it helped add to the overall sense of pressure that Joel and Ellie faced on their adventure. You finish one firefight, hoping that it would be the last of it, just to fall into a pit full of Infected, and have to, nervously, make your way through hoping you can avoid a fight at all costs. No, combat wasn't perfect, but I do think it achieved what they were attempting to accomplish.
I guess my beef had to do with variety outside of combat. I mean, how many ladder sections, planks and waterboard sections where there? I felt like they could have created a bit more variety in those sections to make 'em feel a bit more original.
Not to mention, I feel like multiplayer is a nice surprise. A lot more tact is needed in that mode than I anticipated, and its quite fun - even if I'm really bad at it.
As Julian said however, the story and characters are where this game hits home. The writing is top notch, and each character has dimension, even just minor supporting characters. It all culminates to an ending that blew me away. I'm sure you'll hear us talk about that on an upcoming spoiler-cast though.
Yes, this demo was full of pretty awesome moments. Love the combat. Its simple, yet satisfying. I wish i was familliar with more of the demo characters, but they were still cool enough for me to respect them. Looking forward to the final product.
I know that between you (Jason) and Nick, 3D Land wasn't well liked but I thought it was pretty damn amazing - especially because of the post game content. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the hands on. Looking forward to this one for sure!
All I gotta say is - OMG I WANT A PS4 SO BAD!
I'll probably be picking one up this holiday, if all goes well money wise.
