New Hallmark Arcade Cabinet Replica

Posted on 07/23/2020 at 08:46 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I got this one as well.  Joust is one of my favorite arcade games so I'm glad this came out. It's the only arcade cabinet ornament this year, but there are lots of other video game themed ornaments at Hallmark.  In July we get the Joust cabinet, Yoshi in a go-kart, and a NES that plays the Super Mario Bros. theme song.  I got all of those, plus an Animaniacs ornament because I like that cartoon and you don't see much merchandise from it.

In October we'll get more video game themed ornaments from Hallmark as well.  Two mini ornaments of 8-bit Mario and Luigi, a gold Zelda cartridge, Pikachu, and two store-only limited oraments of a metal Poke Ball and 8-bit Donkey Kong.  I'll be getting all of those and plan to write an article about them closer to Christmas.  There are also ornaments of Fortnite and Minecraft, but I'm not interested in those.

If they ever made a Spy Hunter cabinet ornament, I'd have to get it for my brother Jeff, because he LOVED that game when he was little.

It was, but it went downhill quickly a couple of years later!

Cary's Best Games of 2020 SO FAR Awards Show!

I can't remember how expensive Streets of Rage 4 is, but I'd say 20 bucks would be a good deal.

Dark Crystal is also worth trying out but don't expect it to blow you away or anything. Definitely check out the show, too, if you have Netflix.

I wish Nintendo would just be honest with us about what's coming up in the future, even if they don't know themselves, what with the Coronavirus and all.  Their Direct on Monday was really bad.

Mythical - Rygar

My friend and I rented Rygar on the NES.  We also saw the arcade version once and was surprised how different it was.  I have the Rygar PS2 game.  You swing that yo-yo shield around and break so many columns and buildings that it felt more like Rampage!

Oh cool, you made Herbie!  I would totally make that car!  Other cars I would make would be the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard and Sam & Max's DeSoto.

I graduated college in late 1999, so my last two semesters there were taking the hard classes for my major.  But I also really hit my stride at The Dallas Morning News, writing big name game reviews for titles like Donkey Kong 64 and Pac-Man World, and getting a front page tagline for those two reviews as well!  The newspaper even flew me home from college one weekend so I could host a booth of theirs at a small convention in Dallas.  It seemed almost certain I knew where I'd be working when I graduated.  Also, that Christmas I got a Dreamcast.

If you really like Farm Together, you may want to check out Stardew Valley or one of the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games.

I wish I knew what was in your backlog so I could recommend something you could play.  Um, do you have Ys 8?  One of my brothers called Ys 8 "Jurassic Park: The JRPG."  So you might like that one.

Electrifying - Super Mario Strikers

Strikers was so much fun.  I think it's funny how they made the Mario characters a little more angrier and edgier.  One of SEGA's divisions made the Strikers games, as they did a soccer game of their own that was well received.  That's like how the Mario Baseball games were made by Namco, because Namco did the popular Family Stadium games (the first Family Stadium was brought to the US as R.B.I. Baseball).

I remember that Pocket Monsters article in Nintendo Power as well. That helped me know that Pokemon would be a big hit here once I saw how they were marketing it.
