I certainly hope Capcom gets the gameplay right. Honestly, the music and Dante 2.0 don't really appeal to me, but if the gameplay is sold, I'll play it.

The original Spy Hunter was one of my favorite arcade games as a kid. Unfortunatly, I didn't get into the last re-imagining of the game (the one where Saliva did the main theme.) Hopefully this one grabs me.

I don't know if lazy is fair. Just because it's a popular opinion doesn't negate the value of the statement if it's genuine. For example, I think Midna from Twilight Princess is a fantastic example of a strong female supporting character, but I'm sure she's on plenty of lists. I just personally love her character.

You want some less obvious choices? Protagonist: Asha from Monster World 4. Supporting character: Brigid Tenenbaum from Bioshock.

Yeah, I know Asha is kind of a Link-ish silent protagonist, but she emotes quite a bit more than Link, and the game makes it clear that she's put through a lot. Normally I wouldn't care about spoiling such an old game, but it only recently got localized as part of the Monster World Collection, which you should pick up anyway.

I was done with EO 3 a little while ago, but I feel ya. I'm pretty stoked for this one.

They should include the Coleco Vision version. It looked almost exactly like the arcade version and I'm 99.9% sure it had all the levels as well. That would be a humorous "original" edition. 

Yeah, that was an interesting conversation I had to have with one of my kids a few years ago. It basically boiled down to, no, those aren't flashlights and don't ever go into that store again.

And before you ask, no my wife and I weren't with him, he was visiting friends who took him on a trip to the mall. 

As someone who only owned an Xbox last gen, I'm pretty happy to finally get a chance to play these games.

But the 80's stuff is so good so good! The music made me smile the entire time, and this song is just awesome. It's like someone discovered some unreleased Madonna track from the decade and performed it. I kinda hate Madonna, but it's so spot on that I can't help love it.

Man, Duke Nukem. That game was pretty much crap on every level, but I totally get why people were offended by that game. I don't think my wife would appreciate that one too much either, but yeah, I also think she would have looked at the media reaction and thought it was hypocritical as well. I mean, there's worse crap than that in movies all the time, and yet you never hear film critics falling all over themselves to decry the latest tasteless flick, and what's more ironic than seeing IGN's review bash it for being just such a game juxtaposed with their latest Babe of the Day underwear shoot.

You know though, My wife and I are no where near as straight edge as our parents were (we were both raised in households that sound very similar to yours) but I think there's another big reason this set off her alarm bells; we have kids. Yes, I know I bring them up constantly, probably ad nausium at this point but having kids really does change your perspective on everything.

Again, it's not like we can't take a joke, but good jokes need context. I think another thing that may have worked against it was that the Linda's had no context. It was a joke that was all punchline without any clever framework, so it just came off as a cheap thrill. It's just like you said, they felt out of place in the game. All that's left to them at that point is sexualization. While I'm surprised she found it as offensive as she did, as a woman, that's her right.

Also, she laughed at "Penatrator missiles" when I read her your response.

She also asked that I clarify one thing, she found this personally offensive. This isn't something she want's to publiclly stone someone over, it's just something she didn't like, didn't feel comfortable around, and didn't think was a good fit for our household.
