I have a totally different opinion of the game than Travis does. My perception of it is a lot more negative. I'll write up a nice, long comment in response, or even post it as an editorial pretty soon, but I wanted to at least get across that there are mixed responses to Super Mario 3D Land so people know not everyone views the game positively.

Well, Chris and I both own copies of EarthBound. I know at least I have the guide somewhere. Someone decided to return the game to Wal*Mart or something like that, and my Wal*Mart employees decided to put the game guide on the Player's Guide rack. I saw it, took it to the counter, and they let me buy it for some price I don't recall that wasn't outside the norm for Player's Guides. Long time ago. Very weird. Definitely nice.

I don't think it is... Isn't it obvious praise for Nintendo's ability to make a 2D Platformer, saying that perhaps for once Ubisoft has made a Nintendo-quality game, like they say they plan to make all the time?
Yeah, he's skydiving for her, but truthfully, we've seen a more or less lighthearted Link in Skyward Sword, particularly in what we've seen at the beginning of the game. I can tell you, I can't envision Skyward Sword Link "thinking" like this at all.
I usually don't enjoy this type of comic. Penny Arcade is fun as a light-hearted comic strip, but they don't always capture others' characters very well. This first comic doesn't seem like the Link I've seen in all the Skyward Sword early game promotional stuff out there, etc. etc.
Co-op can greatly improve the gameplay experience of almost anything, except Ratchet & Clank All4One... So, yeah.
Ignoring the spam above, Sports Champions was comparable to imitation Wii Sports. In that same vein, Medieval Moves: Deadmund's Quest is kind of a comparable imitation to Skyward Sword. Like Skyward Sword's mechanics are lifted from Wii Sports Resort, Medieval Moves's mechanics are lifted from Sports Champions. The difference? One is on rails, for starters. Take a guess which one that is...
Not that it looked terrible, at E3, it just had a serious Skyward Sword wannabe vibe, and Sony was definitely limiting talk about the game being on rails. I feel people should probably be told about the rails aspect before they go into this expecting a free-roaming adventure.
