This Week's Monsters

Posted on 07/29/2023 at 07:37 AM | Filed Under Blogs

New Pokemon Snap was my GOTY when it was released.  I think it's cool that HAL Laboratory made the first game and Namco made the second one.  They do make reference to characters in the first game in the second one if you play it long enough.

Aw yeah!  You played Arkanoid DS?  Isn't it great?  A lot of people hate it, but I really liked it.  And that music!  What do you think of the music?

I think I'm the only person in the world who likes Mario 2 more than Mario 3.

I remember Vindicators and Xybots in the arcade.  Even though Xybots isn't my cup of tea, it's really not that bad of a game.

Mega Man 2 is one of the best games on the NES.  Even though my favorite is MM3, I can understand why someone might like 2 more.  My favorite Mega Man games are MM3, MM2, MM8, MMX, and MMX4.

I think Crusader of Centy is the best game in this batch.  But wait'll you see the crazy stuff that's in Part 2 next week!

So if you have to choose between Zelda 1 and 2, I'd pick Zelda 1.  To this day that's still one of my favorite Zeldas, and the second one is way too hard and one of the few Zelda games I never finished on my own.

I really like the Ys games.  Purists may not like it, but I enjoyed playing the first one on my DS.  Such great music in those games, too.

For shooters, I know you know that I like 1943.  I also really like Fantasy Zone but it's way too hard.  I also really enjoy Darius.  Another one of my top favorite shooters.  The first stage music "Captain NEO" is one of my top favorite video game tunes ever.

Mega Man came out in 1987...

This Week's Dragons

Posted on 07/22/2023 at 08:32 AM | Filed Under Blogs

The original Dragon Ball (Not Z) is one of my favorite anime cartoons.

I really liked New Super Lucky's Tale and I'm glad it eventually came to Switch, since I don't have the new Xbox consoles.  It reminded me of something you'd play on the GameCube.

I reviewed Arkanoid: Eternal Battle.  It's all right, but it felt like it was missing something.

I may have said this before, but 1943 is one of my top favorite shooters, even after all this time!

You said, "Sent Us Emails" in the description up there.  Does that mean you'd rather us email you our responses instead of posting them here?  If so, could you please post the email here again?  I know you say it in the podcast, but I tend to forget what it is by the time I have something to say.  I can then repost this reply as an email and send it to you if you'd like.  Thanks.

STAGE SELECT

Here are my top three games I'm looking forward to:

3. WarioWare: Move It!

It's just one of my favorite Nintendo series.  That's all.

2. Detective Pikachu Returns

I loved the first game and it's nice to play a Pokemon game where you can enjoy the characters and not have to battle all the time.  Gameplay is like Phoenix Wright for kids.

1. Super Mario RPG remake

I have a lot of speical memories with the first game.  My younger brother Jeff was very little when the first one came out, and he'd always ask for me to play "Mario PG" and "Chwono Twigger."  He couldn't read so I always had to read the text to him aloud, so my throat would get pretty tired after a while!

Other games I'm looking forward to include Illusion Island, Samba de Amigo: Party Central, and Super Mario Wonder.

You'll have to let me know what you think of them if you get to try them out.

My friend had Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy on the NES and I'd go over to his house and we'd play them.  We'd take turns playing the game and the other person would look at the included maps and beastiaries to help out.  They were fun, but I didn't feel like I needed to own them myself.  I was perfectly happy just playing them at my friend's house.  I really didn't get into RPGs myself until the 16-bit ones came along.

Arkanoid was one of the first games I got for my NES.  I thought the included paddle controller was cool and it was one of the few games I could get my dad to play.  My favorite is Arkanoid DS because it has awesome music.

My brother Jeff and I loved playing Rampage when he was little.  Did you ever see the movie?

The first R.B.I. Baseball game was actually a Namco made baseball game in Japan called Family Stadium.  It spawned into a super popular series over there, so much so they just abbreviated it to Famista.  The series still goes on to this day!

I would try to get a 7800 because I think you can play 2600 games on it, too.

I would hope kids today would be past all that stuff, but they're probably not.  Kids is kids.

This Week's Wizards

Posted on 07/16/2023 at 07:01 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Never heard of that TV show but my friend and I rented the NES Wizards and Warriors a few times.  We beat it once.

I remember that Toon RPG, I've just never been able to get into that pen and paper stuff.

My brother Jeff LOVED Spy Hunter when he was little.  He'd sit there and play it on one of my collections for hours.  And he was like, five!

I really like SkyKid a lot.  Only place I ever saw the arcade version was at the front entrance at the Wal Mart near my house when I was little.  I would've played it more, but they also had a Super Pac-Man machine there so, you know.  Very catchy music.

I wrote a blog about Arcade Paradise a while back that you might remember.
