My '95 Games

Posted on 08/05/2015 at 07:24 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Donkey Kong Country 3 was one of the very first games I reviewed for The Dallas Morning News.  I thought it was pretty cool that I got to review such a big time game right off the bat.

Don't forget about Yoshi's Island and Chrono Trigger!

My Fantasy Life Comes to an End. Or Does It?

Posted on 08/04/2015 at 09:30 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Yeah Fantasy Life is one of those games I'd like to play, but I haven't gotten around to yet.  Two reasons why I don't have it.  One, there's just no way I can play ALL the games out there.  You know I play a lot as it is.  Second, I don't want to get too addicted to it like I do Animal Crossing games. :)  Ha ha!

Level 5 does a good job with a lot of their games.  They may not always be perfect, but they have a lot of heart.  There is an upcoming Level 5 game I'm looking forward to, though.  It's called Yokai Watch.  It's kind of like Pokemon, except you capture ghosts and goblins from Japanese legends and folklore, which are all collectively called "Yokai."  The game is very popular in Japan, with two sequels and a second season of a kids' anime.  We're getting the first game in the US later this year as well as the first season of the cartoon show!  The game looks cute and has a tinge of a Ni no Kuni feel to it (another Level 5 game), and I think Yokai monsters are interesting so I'm going to keep an eye on that one.

What?  No FF6 yet?

Two awesome games from 1995 to look out for: Yoshi's Island and Chrono Trigger.

I never liked how Amano drew people (too pale and wispy) but I loved how he drew their clothes, and also all the monsters!

July 2015 Recap

Bayonetta was a neat action game, but I stopped playing it because I didn't like having to fight angels.  I like angels, I don't want to fight them!

Hooray for Captain Toad and LEGO Batman 3!  I hope you try the DLC case in Dual Destinies, too.  That's the best one!

Captain N's favorite Kirby abilities/forms

Those are some good choices.  Here are some of mine.

I like it in Kirby Super Star when you have a Wheelie helper.  You can jump on him and Kirby dons a helmet and you can ride on Wheelie like a motorcycle and Kirby even gets to shoot stars.  It makes the escape from the Halberd even more epic!

Speaking of Kirby Super Star, my brother's favorite abilitiy is the Yo-Yo.  He ALWAYS had to be the Yo-Yo guy when we played.

In Kirby 64, I liked combining electric and ice because it turned Kirby into a fridge and he would shoot food.  Also, electric and fire was fun because Kirby would rub his head to generate static electricity, but he would rub too hard and would set his head on fire!  Also, Cutter and Rock let you sculpt Kirby into walking statues of his animal friends.

There are so many great abilities that it is really hard to choose!  That's why Kirby is Nintendo's best character!

Retro Game of the Week: Batman Returns

I love beat 'em ups, but back then I avoided a lot of them becaue there were just SO MANY of them and lots of them were not very good.  Plus, back then I was way more into RPGs on the SNES, so I mostly focused on that.

I do know more about Batman than any other super hero thanks to the Batman: The Animated Series cartoon that I watched a lot of in the 90's.  But nowadays I just stick to the LEGO Batman games.

Addictive Gaming Parte Dos

That's too complicated for my brain to wrap around.  I just play games because I like them and they're fun.  And that's about all I have to say on that subject.
