GameStop Now Offering Retro Games for Reward Points

Posted on 01/25/2012 at 11:35 AM | Filed Under News

It's actually quite the trend around here.  There's another chain called Jay Street Games that has locations in Colonie Center and the Crossgates mall, but they seem way more corporate in their approach.

BEHOLD! Pastime Legends!  It's pretty small, but you can get new games there too.  They don't have a ton of room for stock at that particular spot, but they have 3 other stores and can get stuff there for you if you want it.  I wouldn't be supriesd if you didn't see it there, like I said, it's really small.  It might not have even been there actually.  They have a stores in Schenectady and Scotia as well, I think the Albany store is their newest one.

If you are ever around Albany and want to check it out let me know.  Also, it's on Lark St, not Pearl.  My bad.

Final Fantasy Turns 25

The original Final Fantasy literally changed my entire world when it came to video games.  It created my love for character development (as far as stats and abilities,)  story elements, and even instruction manuals.  I can't say enough about it honestly.  It's a real shame the series has fallen so far.

Eh, I would say that happened after IX.  I mean yeah VIII is a stinker, but they ocassionally had those.  IX was a fantastic game.

Well, there's a reason I don't go to GameStop anymore.  Seriously, look around the site.  What else is there to spend the points on that's actually interesting?  A Duke Nukem statue?

Honestly I'd rather spend my money at locally owned places, like the video games store over on Lark St in Albany (where I can get NES games for like 5 bucks, AND they stock Atari and Coleco stuff as well.) No rewards program, sure, but unless I bought like... 3 consoles this year how the hell would I even get this stuff?

[edited, store is on Lark, not Pearl]

Issue 72: Gamenomics

Hey Jason, quick question

Is there any way for the average consumer to find out how many copies of a game are being produced?  That might have a lot to do with being able to get a copy after launch.

For example, I know from history that Atlus ALWAYS publishes in small amounts, so if they produce a game that you want, you should try and get it at launch.  They usually don't do reprints either unless the game is in very high demand (like Demon's Souls.)  Then there's other games that pretty much dissapear without warning, like the DS version of Chrono Trigger, or Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (although I've seen more used copies of that game turn up recently.) And everybody should know by now that if you see a copy of Infinite Space in the wild, you should grab it instantly.  That game is impossible to find.  You really don't have any warning what games you should snatch at first sight, and which you should let sit out for a while.

There's a game coming up for the 3DS that I'm fairly excited about (Tales of the Abyss) but I have no idea how to know if I should grab it day one or let it go down in price first.

Was this originally a Cellular release?  It seems like it would be better suited to the Iphone or Android than Wii.
