9 Holes of Cary's Top Golf Games

Posted on 05/13/2014 at 07:27 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I found a third party taiko drum controller so I didn't have to buy a second copy. Did the same thing with Donkey Konga, since it's basically the same game.  It's much more fun with two players.  For a while I was pretty obsessed with Taiko Drum Master.  I imported any Taiko game I could on the region free handhelds (DS and PSP).  It's too bad Taiko bombed in the US.  Guess us Americans would rather play guitars.  Go figure. :)

Samba de Amigo was my favorite music game until Taiko Drum Master came out.

What I Have been Playing and Hope you all had a awesome Mothers day

I just published my review of The Witch and the Hundred Knight.

Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown are similar because they're made by the same folks.  I really liked Odin Sphere despite its problems.  One of the only games to make item management really fun.  And Dragon's Crown is a great beat 'em up.  I like to play as the Amazon.

Giving Zelda to From Software

Posted on 05/12/2014 at 07:32 AM | Filed Under Blogs

From Software has actually made a Zelda-like game already, even more so than Dark Souls or whatever.  They made a PS3 game called 3-D Dot Game Heroes, and it was such a Zelda rip-off you'd think Nintendo would sue.  But 3-D Dot Game Heroes was also a fantastic game and love letter to everything great about 8 and 16-bit gaming.  It let you create your own character out of pixels, so it had a LEGO feel to it, too.  And since it was from From Software, there are even Armored Core references if you're a fan of that game.  So I highly recommend looking it up and giving it a try if you can.

But yeah, other companies besides Nintendo are perfectly capable of making a Zelda game.  Case in point: the two GBC Zelda games Oracle of Ages and Seasons, those were actually made by Capcom!  --Cary

Intellivision Lives! on DS - Crown of Kings

Remember how I was telling you that when I would visit my cousins in Alabama, we would play Frog Bog on their Intellivision?  Well, they also had this game, but we couldn't figure it out as kids. But I remember it somehow all the same.

That's why they should've put Kirby in that game.  Then the box art would be cool. :)

This was one of the Intellivision games I played that I thought was ahead of its time.

Nintendo Land is fantastic.  Definitely get that one.

Retro Game of the Week: Eternal Champions

Posted on 05/10/2014 at 11:14 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I never played this one until I got one of those 50 games in one Genesis consoles and it was on there.  Eternal Champions played to the Genesis' strengths instead of trying to be like an arcade game, which was good.  But like many old school fighters, it was slower, clunkier, and much harder than today's brawlers.  It did have some cool characters, though.  I liked the circus lady.

Yeah, sometimes a game dosen't have to be a triple A five star game to still be fun.
