Darth Kill's 1Up Rant

Posted on 12/10/2011 at 01:02 AM | Filed Under Blogs

This blog post makes me happy knowing that my opinion on the official gaming media has not changed one bit.

Just so you know, daRth_kiLL, we don't really ban logged-in members unless they start trolling or start console flame wars. We are a community that encourages open-minded discussion (though honestly, a few of my PixlBit staff know I can sometimes be an asshole if push comes to shove).

Just remember to follow our rules, and everything will be good fun.

Why did I wait? (Tales of Vesperia)

Angelo is right about the Tales series being up and down, and it also doesn't help we didn't get many of them. ToP is great fun (and hands down the BEST JRPG on played on the SNES), and Tales of Symphonia had great characters, as did Tales of the Abyss. The problem, however, that I find with these games and most JRPGs with an anime theme is that they rely too much on grinding.

Also, avoid the PS2 version of Abyss. Its loading times are unholy terrible.

The Marketing Genius of Nintendo of America

One out of three Rainfall titles is not bad at all. Xenoblade, according to my Pietriots pals, is EXCELLENT. Chris Tansley (Grubdog), however, made a great article about Operation Rainfall during its initial run.

The negativity (from the gaming press) did hurt Rainfall's purpose, but I still actively support this group. However, it still depends on our European friends and if they buy the last two.

No sales, no dice. YOU ARE UNDER MY ORDERS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN EUROPE.

Shigeru Miyamoto Altering His Role at Nintendo But Not Leaving Big Projects

Color me surprised, I wasn't expecting this at all. Granted, Miyamoto will be turning sixty next year, so maybe being on the board of directors was limiting what he really wanted to do?

That, or he's putting the Pikmin 3 team into over-drive.

Yes. I don't care what the add-on stuff is nor what the price is, it can still be part of the game itself instead of being a price add-on. That is why I dislike DLC so much.

O Snaking, How I Mourn the Loss

I think I already mentioned this to Nick on twitter, but I do not mind at all that the snaking is gone. While some people will miss it, its not a deal breaker. To me, it changed up how you drifted in Mario Kart DS, but at the same time it didn't feel 'natural' to me. Natural was the thrill of making a tight turn and building up your boost. Double Dash and Wii did this so well, and from the looks of it, so does Mario Kart 7. Snaking did nothing for me. I appreciate change (see SMB2 USA post in Mario Mania if you need further proof), but this wasn't a wildly appreciate change for me. Interesting? Yes, but not my favorite.

X-Mas time = Mario Kart 7. Super excited and I can't wait for the community to start!

Except they are part of the game already, they don't have to be downloaded onto storage for you to use them. This is basically Namco's way of saying "hey, you don't have to pay for DLC unless you do this in the game. But hey its free instead of having to buy it!"

This is not what unlockable means to me. Do I like challenges that give me something in return? Of course! Who doesn't? But Namco is doing it the wrong way and is making you work for stuff that shoud've been in the main release, not as a priced add-on.

Its driving me bonkers man.

Bridging the Gap

The casual/hardcore crap gives me a headache and is stupid.

This type of whining was why the Operation Rainfall games almost never had a chance of coming over to North America.

...Why did I miss this blog post until now!? D:

Alternate Take: "Namco finds new ways to fill your memory stick up with crap that should've been part of the main game to begin with."

Though kudos for Namco finding a unique way around not buying DLC. Will that make me accept DLC? Nope. I still have to work for it. Oh boy, I can't wait to play the upcoming Smash Bros. and I have to play the game in order to get DLC for free.
