Pretty games indeed. And with many of these games like Crackdown and Borderlands having mainstream success, it certainly doesn't look like it has a negative impact on sales and appeal.

Now I remember that first realistic Zelda tease for the Gamecube. Poor decision for Nintendo. That still looks pretty stunning (even Twilight Princess doesn't look as good as that) and it only helped fill everyone with unrealistic expectations. Good thing Wind Waker seems to have become beloved over the years.
I also remember that EGM April fools day thing (though I think that was well after the game came out). That looks awful, I can't believe I fell for that!
I think the first game I was exposed to with this art-style was Jet Set Radio Future. Yet another example of an old game that still looks great thanks to cel-shading.
I had the same initial response to Wind Waker. It wasn't until after I played Twilight Princess that realized just how much better Wind Waker was from a visual standpoint. The HD version is right now the biggest reason to buy a Wii U for me.
Blue Dragon certainly has a higher polygon count, but DQVIII clearly shows Toriyama's artstyle benifits far more from a truly cartoony visual style. Not that DQVIII looks great solely on Toriyama's designs either! I think even Valkyria Chronicles was released at the time I wrote this, so it definitely would have been another good example of the visual style.
Great minds think alike right? At least we do agree while giving two completely different perspectives.
Master Chief is also a pretty terrible driver. How many Warthogs, Tanks, and Air craft has that guy went through just getting from A to B?
I actually liked Purgatory the best.
Haha, well I suppose you could call this payback though when you posted a blog for the best movies of 2012 soon after I finished writing my own!
Even if you were copying this blog, I'm sure the copyright is long expired on this one. Besides, writing a whole blog is still a lot less lazy than reposting one from three years ago! At least I didn't mention Wind Waker here.
I should try this series. I've always been interested in Resistence 2's coop mode, but I'm kinda burned out on FPS at the moment. I never say never though.
Awesome. Nothing beats the printed page, good to see you were one of the lucky one's to get it. I actually didn't pre-order this because I avoid purchasing online on sites that I'm unsure of their reliability. In this case, the caution seems to have been warranted.
I played the demo and I didn't enjoy it too much. Never been into beat-em-ups too much.
I certainly wouldn't mind however if developers returned to their games after a few years more often. DLC these days is so close to the release of the game that it's hard to get excited about it like in the past. The whole thing that made DLC enticing originally was the idea of returning to a game after finishing it long ago.
