The game does a good job of moving Samus' story further along. It also does a (very briefly) introduce us to somoene from her past that isnt an alien in Adam. But perhaps Fusion gave the Metroid series a dead-end because now all of the Metroids are wiped out and she retains the last bits of them in her cells. Is this why all subsequent Metroid games have taken place before Fusion?
The game itself I thought was good and found different ways of making you feel fearful of the S-AX. You could not fight it until you were ready, and it was hunting you. Very Alien/Aiens like and gives you another sense of how Metroid's roots began. Yes, its linear, but this game wraps a narrative around that. Once again making us reacquire her abilites and regain Godmode-Sue. The controls are tight and a natural evolution of the controls from Super Metroid being more refined. For the Gameboy Advanced the sprite art is really good. It does not upscale prefectly on the GC GBA adapter but I like it none the less.
Good release for the Wiiu Virtual console. Should be on the 3DS. Nintendo would do well if contiuned this story making Samus the hunted perhaps and explore her Mythos and how its linked to the Chozo and their prophecies. I would even take a remaster of Metroid 2 similar to how AM2RM is doing it.
