Blaster Master Review Rewind

My earliest years in gaming was a magical time. Every new game I discovered pioneered a fresh mechanic I hadn’t seen before. I'll never forget the moment when my brother's best friend came over with his NES games to show off Blaster Master. I marveled as the story elements unfolded while melancholic music played in the attract mode. Pressing the start button then transitioned me to the opening shot of an armored vehicle speeding off while the triumphant music swelled to a crescendo as I journeyed into the unknown. Never had I witnessed anything like that at the time. While everything I just described is nothing spectacular these days, Blaster Master still has a few gameplay elements that still hold up quite nicely.

Tour de 64: Chameleon Twist 2

Chameleon on the rocks with a twist

After having some fun with the first Chameleon Twist despite its issues and simple gameplay, I was excited to try the sequel. With the hopes that it would improve upon at least some of the problems with the original, I slid the cartridge into my Nintendo 64 and flipped the power switch.

Tour de 64: Chameleon Twist

Not a twist of lemon, sadly.

With companies like Nintendo and Rare releasing great platformers on the Nintendo 64, most of the other ones in between were largely ignored. Not that it wasn't for good reason, as those games were some of the best ones created, but it is nice to now catch up on the ones I passed over. Chameleon Twist doesn't offer anything unique or groundbreaking, but it's still a fun, quirky game while it lasts, and is worth checking out after completing the Marios and Banjos of the system.

Today, Sunsoft announced a sequel to their fan-favorite title, Blaster Master. Blaster Master: Overdrive is a WiiWare title that is planned for release this coming Monday, February 8 in North AmericaThe game will be available for 1000 Wii Points ($10).

Sunsoft Returns as a North American Publisher

After years of inactivity Sunsoft returns to North America with the help of Gaijinworks.

Today, Sun Corporation announced that their subsidiary, Sunsoft will return to the North American video game publishing market with the help of Gaijinworks. Gaijinworks is headed by Victor Ireland, who was previously the president of the now defunct Working Designs.
